I am a big fan of the star trek franchise. I have seen all the films and series. However, I have not read any of the books. Recently I decided that I was going to read the Destiny trilogy based on all the positive things I've heard about it. But, I was wondering if there is anything I need to read before hand in order to understand what is going on? Is it as stand alone series or does it suppose prior knowledge of the TrekLit universe?

Welcome 0069twiggy. Welcome to the forums. I am sorry to say I do not know. Let us see if anyone here tunes in.

Hi 0069twiggy! I have read the Destiny trilogy (and most other ST novels for that matter) and it is actually really great. You won't need to read anything else prior to that, as the author (David Mack) is kind enough to remind you of any necessary info. Of course you should know that Riker and Troi are in the USS Titan.

You should be prepared for a big shock at the end of the Trilogy (lets say that the Trek Universe changes a bit) but remember that it is non-canon

The aftermath of the story was continued in other novels (see http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Star_Trek%3A_Destiny for a partial list) but, to my honest opinion, with mixed results.

Well, I can't say any more without giving out spoilers, so the punchline is that when I read it I really really enjoyed it!
