First of all welcome to the forum, and sorry for editing your post. The game will be made available free* for download probally hosted on AFC's forums, which botfii.armadafleetcommand.com is a part of.
* at this moment this will be the case, unless we own the license for it.

maybe it could be made in the form of a torrent with a private tracker. That'd be cool, so people would have to register to get the game and payment to register could be up to u guys. I think that'd me the most efficient method of distribution.

Please don't talk about the M word.
Your idea to put this to download as a torrent file is excellent, it is atleast an option to spread the game. Really we could uploaded the file extension (url was it wasn't it) haven't downloaded with it, because i was on a blacklist or something .

kk, no worriesd, whatever makes the post easier to understand (english never was my strong point )
anyways, if it's free for download that'd be great, and even if it was put up for sale I'm sure loads of people would still buy it.

the game will be a free download, no money will exchange hands, nor will any offers of payment be accepted, so please stop talking about charging as this may bring legal action down upon us.
the game will be hosted here at afc, as will the multiplayer gameing rooms.

Hey Jiggalypuff or admin, something is wrong with the dates on the forum. They all read 10-30-04 or something. Could someone fix this, please?
Also, it would be cool if the game was released for everyone to download(hold on, hold on). With the understanding that only the select playtestors would give official feedback. And possibly another topic for "everyone else" to post feedback, reviews, bugs and so forth.
I think this would keep more people interested in the game, and "quiet" all the questions of when will the general population get a chance to play it.
IMHO Quake_Devil
P.S. I'm always looking for someone to play a multiplayer game, either at the MSN ZONE(easiest to find/join games), TCP/IP direct, or MSN MESSENGER(you can launch directly from it).
TO get to MSN ZONE click here 1. http://zone.msn.com/en/root/cdrom.htm
you need a .NET or .MSN account,
2. click SIGN IN .NET, (sign in),
3. click ZONELAN-DirectPlay lobby, (ZoneFriends starts up, IM service),
4.you now need to refresh the page to get the DirectPlay lobby to show up,
5. click on DirectPlay(at bottom of list) and the lobby window will open
6. click on an unused room, a window of all DirectPlay compatible games pops up, pick (hopefully in the list) BOTF, and you are set to get a game.
To get a TCP/IP game you need to set up a time, and give the players the IP address of the host player. This requires a IM service to have any chance of getting set up. Email and Message Boards are to hard to set up with. IMO.
This is where MSN Messenger comes into play.. you can see who is online, chat with them, and launch the game without having to trade IP address.
The host selects start BOTF(from a list of games) for 1 person at a time.
When 1 person connects, swap out of game(with ALT+TAB), and select start BOTF with the next player, until all are connected.
Or just give the IP address if comfortable for quicker setup.
I am _Quake_Devil_ @ ZONE
red_dragon_1@hotmail.com @ Messenger and email
and i forget ICQ at the moment.
It's amazing with all the members here and at AFC that it's hard to find anyone to play a multiplayer game with.
I would and do play almost any mod or Tech level or Galaxy size or race!!!!

I know you want an end to the payment thing. However. I just have to say, BOF 2 would be one of the few things on the net where I would be happy to cough up some dosh, and noboddy wants it!
Wierd.

Hi Jiggalypuff,
This Friday would be hard to get a game in, being it's Christmas Eve. Saturday would be the same predictament. Maybe Sunday or any other eveniing of the week.
How would you like to "meet up"? ZONE, IM....
I would have to download the planspac and plansboni, I doubt we would have the same files....

Thats just your joined date. Look at the lower left-hand corner of all posts, and it has the real date of each post written there, it would look something like this 0 21o12'31 k12o for something posted today ( dont ask me what all the extra stuff means, all i look for is the 21, and the 12, for dec, 21 ofcourse). I made the same mistake myself when I first came to these boards.

It seems you have typed something wrong into the time format or something you know in your profile.

Perhaps I do have my time wrong, does anyone know what eastern standard time in the US should be? ( I really wasn't certain when I first created my profile, and my roomate said it was GMT -5, but he's definately far from infallible.)

I found what the problem was. It was like you 2 said in my profile. I had a specific date in the PHP(0) field, I changed it to M/D/Y, and now the lower left date reads Dec/Thu/2004. Better, but not great. So, what do you, iwulff or rigel or jig, have it set up as?
Thanks, QD.

Ok QD, if you want it to look like this
Thu Dec 23, 2004 3:10 PM
enter this into your date format slot
D M j, Y g:i A
Just like it is here, spaces and the letter cases as they are. If you want to play around with how it looks, click on the link that is in the description next to the date format slot. Thats how I figured it out. Its a good thing you asked about this QD, because mine was also done incorrectly, but now its right.

How long do you think the afc site will last for once you start hosting a game which is clearly in breach of Viacom/Paramount copyrighted material?
btw not charging for the game will not stop the site being shut down.

we will not be in breach of copyright. it is not illegal to use an image for personal reasons, it is not illegal to use images in mods for instance as they are public domain. this game will be public domain, and as no payments are requested we will not be in breach of copyright. copyright theft is the soliciting of monies for an object which is legaly owned by someone else.

Really?
The site already has a downloadable version of the orignal BOTF, that was a game that an official company produced and was on sale for years. The site's still there.
I guess then all these Star Trek sites will also be shut down, DITL, Ex Astris?
Is it just games? In that case all those Trek strategy games that people with Vulcan ears play on line? fan fictions? E-Mails with the word 'Keldon' in them?
They don't have a leg to stand on, plus gturfrey has stated he has a missile launcher locked on just in case they tried anything. People wouldn't be wasting time with the project if it were that fragile.
Heighton- This is an entirely new game made from scratch. All aspects will be completely designed from the ground up and nothing will be borrowed from BOTF.

in fact the only thing that could bogg it up is if this was not changed enough of percentage for an exact copy of botf for it to be shut down and even then the makers of botf and the copyright owners of botf no longer exist as microprose went bankrupt ages ago i think. ps this game and its ideas are that vastly enhanced from botf that it is vastly within not breaching any laws

he usually does ,i'd love to know how far the project has gone, cause i've seen alot of people losing stuff due to faults, viruses and hacking.
mainly gavin and jiggle
cause i would say that balancing out the game with stats is going to be nearly as hard as making all these new additions. just trying to keep track of all these little options and new bits is mind boggling.
i'd hate to know what its like for gavin as hes about the only programmer that i know of. if any of you guys would like to use my slow connection (300k to 750k ntl broadband) to back up stuff let me know as i have around 400gb of space in hdd

Well considering the amount of money they got from Activision for a licence to make Star Trek games using trademarked names was probably in the 6 figure range I think games would be a high on there list of things to protect in a trademark and comercial sense. If you take out all of the trademarked names they dont have any reason to shut the site down.

Check how far they got before they were told to stop.
Oh and it might also be wise to get rid of the post from the coder asking for a warez version of one of the Visual Studio CD's as you know what microsoft are like and im sure he doesn't have two missle launchers ;o)

the difference between getting a stop letter and a company having the legal right to actually stop a fan based game is huge. i have no idea what game these guys were working on but i suspect it was still in development by whomever owned the rights to it, maybe they were doing a serial.
there was also no laws broken in what gavin asked for, he has already purchased a copy of it and had misplaced the auterization keys. if you legaly buy somethin you can legaly back it up.

Chronotrigger is a SNES RPG. It was really great but for some reason Squaresoft, I think that's who owns it, wasn't doing anything at all with the rights. When they found the fan project they asked them to stop. If the project guys hadn't stopped they would have probably been sued.
