Ok guys, i no this is nothing to do with star trek, but i am desperate, someone in my design team has LIED to us (group of 5) about how much work they have done, and now were are 6weeks of a 12 week semester in I need to carry his workload and mine. Im doing mechanic design, and basically designing a stone crusher (for example see here http://catalog.granitecitytool.com/show ... 5&catnum=0)

I need a few idea of what you could use the stone for. i no faca on the front of housing etc but what else. Stone walling and...

Also does anyone know anything about statistics and where to get them, i was want to cross reference some and hope to get say ' the number of houses over £x00,000 have stone walling, if this trend continues over the next ten years the market potiential is x.

I hope someone will try and help. pulling an all nighter.

Thanks

Joe

PS if anyone knows anyone who owns, runs or knows someelse who works in a quarry will you let me know, anywhere in the world is fine!

Thanks guys!

PS: uni group projects suck.

layouts around trees
layouts for hiking trails
decoration for fronts of housing.
building driveways too'

thats all i could think of off the top of my head.

a no, crushed stone is in fact called hardcore, it is used for underpining foundations or for use as a base layer in roads, footings, slablaying (only in a small layer here though, around 3 inchs usually)
for stone cladding on a house it needs to be cut stone, same for slabs (used in patios and footpaths) cut stone can also be used for actual house walls (exterior and interior) garden walls, and a great many other things.
what tealon is on about is in fact gravel, which can come in different sizes, this is know as gradeing, the higher the grade the bigger the pebbles. do not confuse gravel with crused rock, it is a totaly different material. btw i have worked in the building industry for almost 30 years.

should have looked at the link first, thats a masons cutter (the bastards are to lazy to use a hammer and chisle these days) all the stone cut from that machine would be used for walls, slabs, and also statues. (such as the type you`d see on a church or catedarel) what exactly is it you need to know about quarrys?

i need to know (copied from my questionaire):

What are the end products used for?
Paving Stones
Cobbles
Tiles
Facidas (sp?)

What are the types of stone processed?
Granite & Sandstone, (slate in a much smaller capacity)

What are the sizes of stone processed?
32â€￾ x 21â€￾ but can drop to as low as 5â€￾ x 8â€￾.

What is the maximum weight of the stone you process?
Approximately 300/400Kg.

What is the average usage of machine?
At least 1 shift a day, 5 days a week for 20years. This can increase to 2 shifts as need be.

Would you consider it to be a large operation?
Moderately large, but specialised in other areas than cobbling.

Where is your market? Who?
100% builders and DIY niche.

Do you predict growth in your market place?
Strongly dependant on the housing market, proportional to the number of new houses being built with faca (?).

Is machine maintenance a problem?
The piping is loose and is damaged by debris, causing ruptures. Other than that it works until it stops, (no PMs).

If there were anything you would like to change, what would it be?
Pipes hidden away,
Turntable
Offloading rollers
Higher Speed

How many men does it require to run the machine?
3 men, 1 loading into machine, 1 unloading and 1 bringing in raw material at regular intervals.

How much would you pay for this machine today?
£70,000-80,000 would be the maximum limit.

Who manufactured the machine?
Unknown – no documentation or viable labelling.

How would you attract business in this area?
We don’t, the business comes to us, we do not actively seek out anything of this machine as demand can exceed supply.

What would the payback time be on a machine worth £80,000? Is that acceptable?

That is for quarries that have this type of machine, but quarries that do not, i would ask why they wouldnt need one, and what it would need to do to make it justifiable for them to get it

How much of the Statistics side do you need, i've previously down some and am continueing it this year, though not really what a would call hard core Statistics.

What exactly do you want to prove or find out about using statistics?
