Any Brits out there? Who had snow last night?

We had four inches of the white stuff. This is the view from my bedroom window:

More is expected for us around 8am tomorrow.

We've had snow consecutively in the last two years. But prior to that we hadn't really had any decent snowfall in years. Actually, Britain is having the hardest, earliest winter so far in about 20 years. This is the second time we've had snow in as many weeks, and temperatures have been down as low as -23.3C somewhere in the country; that's (Almost) a record here.

We were expecting the snow last night, but not this much. I haven't seen it like this since I was a kid. We had no idea it had even started snowing, but the photo above is what I woke up to!

Some of it has melted now. Unusually, our street wasn't gritted, but the traffic has turned it into slush now. We've had light snow showers throughout the day, but it didn't amount to anything and the snow melted faster than it was replenished. There's still plenty out there though. The BBC have revised the weather forecast and it looks like we're going to get light snow showers from around midnight until 7am now. But there will be heavy rain on Sunday so it will be washed away. If the temperatures stay low then the remains of the snow and the rain will turn to ice and getting around will be treacherous.

It is also snowing non-stop since mid-November here in Copenhagen and what's more, it even snowed for about a week in my hometown back in Greece! Global warming my ass :twistedlaugh:

No snow here for the last week or so.

Usually it snows on or around my birthday which is 22nd march. It has never snowed much before then. So whoever said global warming isn't messing with weather is liars. Its been getting hotter and hotter summers and colder and colder winters for the past 10 years and gaining.

This was a few weeks ago. Never in all my life has it snowed as much and at the oddest time of year (for us).

So, on average it stays the same! OK, this was a cheap sophistry :romulan:

We had more snow last night. Not much of what fell yesterday was left, but it added to what was already there so it looks more than it actually was. The bright light at the top-right is actually the sun lol.

Most climatologists say call it climate change. That is because the models say we see more extremes including lows. Some areas get dryer and others wetter. The global average temp goes up but that is over a wider range and not every place all the time. The Mammoth mountain area in the Sierra Nevada Mountain rang in California has gotten a total of 52 feet of snow fall so far this fall to winter season. There had been a drought.

Post subject:  Re: Snow

Only in the evening Skeet? We've had a blizzard here all day. It snowed almost non-stop from 8am til 4.30pm. We've got about 6 inches outside now. All the local schools have been closed (About 220 schools across the whole of Wales were closed). There's no snow forecast for us tomorrow, but there's more forecast for Wednesday. My parents say they've never seen the snow this bad before, and I certainly haven't!

It's different snow to usual as well. Normally the snow we get barely settles and just turns to slush, which then usually freezes and stays around for a week or so because its' just solid ice. But this snow is really light and...fluffy, for want of a better word. It's been bitter outside, but it hasn't frozen over like it usually does. And it hasn't turned to slush either. It has just stayed as powdery as it was when it fell.

If this is global warming, then it's an unexpected result.

As the globe warms, weather patterns change. More extremes. One consequence is more rainfall on the coasts and less rain passing inland. Weatherman Bashir

You could have a BBQ on the beach though. We certainly can't here.

Yeah there hasn't been all that much snow here either. The surrounding cities are being pummeled, and we've got next to nothing. I haven't even had to shovel yet... maybe I'll move to Britain, at least then I can get some work out of it :P. But it's too cold for BBQs. On the bright side, it's 4 days until Christmas!!!!

I assume you meant 25 degrees Centigrade, because in the States, 25 degrees and rain would (definitely) NOT be barbecue weather.

Pretty pic, Kenneth. Do you normally get snow where you are?

...

Stumpy is from the UK, Bashir; I went to school with him. We've ONLY ever been taught the Celsius scale. The only people I know that still use Fahrenheit are my parents.

...So yeah, he's had genuine BBQ weather with the Kiwi's. Wouldn't you rather have snow? I know I would!

Yes, we normally get some snow in the winter but not a great deal. Arizona is south of most very one here but my area is also one mile, 1.609344 kilometers, above sea level. That is also why you see snow on the rim of the Grand Canyon. There are two ski resorts in the mountins of Northern Arizona.

I use metric units at work but most everything else is still old English here. NASA does it all metric now.

New Zealand is so lovely. I was there for two weeks back in 1982. It is good that it is so far from everything else or it would be as overrun and messed up as Southern California.

come here to Canada....where you can take a leek and watch it freeze before it hits the ground. I woke up this morning to -35°C and that is before the wind chill factor. Good old Canadian winters...

Good heavens zahadoom! That's a lot of snow. Although, admittedly, we have quite a bit ourselves in the Ontario area (not sure where you are). We're supposed to get even more tomorrow and they're calling for a snow storm on Wednesday. School supposedly starts up again on Thursday, so here's hoping we don't get too much.
