God I love Doug's work. He's the Van Gogh of Trek artists. If anyone's going to keep people dreaming of Trek, it's him. I can't describe how much I want an Enterprise season 5. We need to see the Romulan war. We need to see the creation of Starfleet. We need to see the proper introduction of the Daedalus.
We need Enterprise.
...
The design of this Enterprise is actually really interesting. I read an article once about the evolution and future of Starfleet designs, as written from a 22nd century point of view. It talked about the benefits of having a secondary hull, and how "by the end of the century", deflectors will have advanced to the point where adding a secondary hull would be feasible. As it turned out, it became feasible in less than a decade, with the introduction of the Daedalus.
...
Hope you don't mind vjeko, but I edited your post. Attachments have constraints on image sizes. I uploaded the image to an offsite image hoster instead to do the image justice.

Did you see the endings of both videos? Vulcan, Earth and Andorian ships warping symbolicly into the federation emblem, simply brilliant, and at the same time revealing what the three brighter stars represent. We must unite, sign the petitions and write the e-mails to CBS, and if we fail at least we won't go down without a fight. EDIT: This is the closest thing to a new series that I have found: http://cow.neondragon.net/index.php/201 ... s-in-worksbut this is quite old and not very promising

Yeah I saw the ending; I've actually seen similar animations to it before, and it's got to be one of the most emotive things i've ever seen in Trek - even though it's not been in Trek...hmm. This one animation shows the coming together of three great races (I'd love to know what happened to the Tellarites lol) for mutual defence and cooperation. It shows the spirit of Enterprise, and the whole point of Trek in one go. And that is why it must return.

I agree completely, they should have hired this guy to make all their intro videos, or at least trailers. This shows that the future of trek is in us, the fans. This is something I have come across: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Tr ... e_Season_5

Interesting... Quote: A design for a 5th Season refit of the Enterprise is planned for inclusion in the 2011 Star Trek: Ships of the Line Calendar.[10] Perhaps Doug's image will be used.

The new movie is in a new time line / parallel universe. The current theories of physics would allow for many universes to co-exist. This is what we see with the evil terran empire universe in parallel with the primary time line universe of the original ST TV show. They passed from the "primary" original universe into the new one at the beginning of the film by way of the black hole. The writers explain this in interviews and related publications but you would not pick up on everything just watching the film. The universe of ST Enterprise remains whole.

In one set of parallel universes he does and in the others he does not.

Is there a bigger version available? I'd like to read the captions. I always thought Starfleets first Warp-capable ship should've looked more like this because of the pressure the Vulcans put on Warp development, and if Starfleet followed Vulcan technology, they would have produced circular Nacelles. They could've diverged later on once they were more confident and less hindered by Vulcan influence.

In "The would-be Season 5 Enterprise was due to revisit (actually previsit) the cloud city Stratos on Ardana showing the formation of the two castes seen in TOS: "The Cloud Minders". [6] " This is how it would have looked like: Attachment:

Now that's how you do a refit. Ok, it's not the most beautiful of designs, but it shows a natural progression in technology and incorporates Enterprise into the classic design we all know. It's interesting to see the early development of Warp Core ejection systems as well; the article I mentioned in my previous post mentioned that the entire secondary hull of the Daedalus could be ejected as the Warp Core ejection system. The neck would simply be severed in times of extreme emergency, and the saucer would fly off as a giant escape pod. The system had several design flaws though, and it's believed that the total loss of several Daedalus's was due to these design flaws. There was also no way of reconnecting once the process had been completed. (All this is according to the article I read. Obviously none of it is actually canon) Again, I can only sing Doug's praises.
