smacks of a pilot movie to me for a new series. set prior to enterprise? all i can think about is something like the build up of earth after first contact ... i suppose it would be interesting seeing the rebuilding of earth and introductions to the first alien races

POST, not prior. :D Do we need to review our Latin? 8)

I think it could be great... Or it could be really shifty... See my earlier rant against Nemesis. For the love of all that is great, can't we give the Romulans some real screen time lovin'. I want to see my favorite Empire attempt to destroy the Proto-Federation, because if it doesn't happen on screen, I can always manage it in BOTF :)

Your Humble Servant,

Captain Horatio Hornblower, HMS Sutherland
Who, if truly needed by Starfleet, in the Conflict
against the Romulans will proudly volunteer,
to be retrieved by a Starship:
1 )slingshotting around a sun,
2 )Generating a reverse axis, Anti-poleron, max thrust, Nabisco Cookie field,
3 )or some superbeing far beyond my mortal abilities who happens to dump me into the command position of a ship, aptly named Sutherland.

Quote:
Berman added that the movie would not center on the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew, as have the last several movies. "The movie that we're having very early discussions about would have nothing to do with any of the characters that have ever existed on any of the Star Trek series," Berman said. "It would be an entirely new setting and an entirely new set of characters, and it would take place prior to any of the series, including [UPN's Star Trek:] Enterprise.

Other websites have statements saying that the early script involves the Romulan-Earth War (Like Trekweb, Trekbbs). That would be Post-Enterprise, Pre TOS. What more could they show if it was Pre Enterprise, but post First Contact. "Hey!!! Everything is getting better. Where is the poverty? Gone! Where is the War? Gone!" Utopia making is pretty boring  , unless we saw the Third World War, but then what would make it Star Trek and not some bad Terminator knock off.

I think it could work, imagine "Starship Troopers" minus the insanity of physically and mentally assaulting bugs, the subdued nationalist jingoism of their education that was rampant in the book, and the coed naked shower scene. That will never happen in a Star Trek movie (But would it be so bad, I ask  ). The only problem? They never see a Romulan. There is no face to face, or at least no one survived it.

I can imagine great things. But I had high hopes for Nemesis, tried my darndest to avoid spoilers and reviews, and it blew huge chunks of semi-digested lunch. I would have rather paid more money and watched "Maid in Manhattan" six times in a row. Six times in a row, stone-sober.

Your Humble Servant,

Horatio Hornblower, Captain.

BTW, since I was just kidding about the Latin (I did take it in High School), I am sort of surprised that there were that many people who could post in Latin... Sometimes there is a grain of truth in all the generalizations about Star Trek fans. 8O

I don't speak it, I just read it!

Na, Ex Astris, Scientia (From the Stars, knowledge) is the Starfleet motto. That's how I know it. The only other Latin that I know, is from the children's TV series Aquila (Eagle in English)

I'm not sure how to spell it, but: -

Lecat Volare, si cupatare vum Aquila volat!
(Any man can fly, if he rides on the back of an Eagle!) :D

There is also the one that was on the Apollo space program's badge: - Ex Luna, Scientia (From the Moon, knowledge)

They don't teach Latin in Wales. All they taught us is French, Welsh, (Both are forced on you) and German. (Optional) Why couldn't they have taught us something useful? (Like the dead language)

I don't speak a word of latin, except, "Alea iacta est" (The die is cast) and SPQR; Senatus Populusque Romanus (The Senat and People of Rome)...
Found what I wrote, back there on the net, "Handy Latin phrases" :D

Sulu - "Sir, there's Klingons decloaking off the port bow!"
Kirk - "Again with the Klingons... Scotty, we need full power!"
Scotty - "Im tryin Cap'n, but I cannae reach the button" (Because his gut sticks out too much in front of him.)

Sorry if no one else gets this besides matress, it was a parody of Trek on a Simpsons episode. :)
Edit - I recently saw this episode of the Simpsons, and I went back made this post more complete. (And funnier in my opinion) :)

me to! me to! post ent pre tos, i couldnt handle the switches and buttons like in TOS tho, or the piss poor nasal computer... according to the official books the enterprise was in use for around 15-20 years before Kirk got his hands on it. purists have ranted for years that TOS was better than TNG, so maybe they will show us what we can do with TOS using modern technology

Perhaps we could follow a brilliant Commander Garth through the first part of his carrier?

From Dark Horizons.

"In an interview with SyFyPortal, Jendresen confirmed that the movie would take place more than a century before Kirk, but acknowledged that it would not be an "Enterprise" spinoff. "I can certainly say that the story concept, the basic idea of this thing, is pretty damn big... "

"We're going 160-odd years before Kirk is born. It's an earlier time, and I think it would be really refreshing to feel something in the course of telling this tale, instead of being wowed by special effects, or presenting another crew in jeopardy where, in the end, the captain does something brilliant, and all's right with the world"

Well, sounds friendly enough...

Well i heard that it will have nothing to do with Archer or Enterprise. They only said, that it will maintain an important event for StarTrek/Federation. I dunno that is what i've read.

okeedokee having followed the enterprise searies pretty much to the end this is how it is: The romulans have been trying to destablelise the alpha quadrant and only succeeded in making it stronger due to starfleet, telerites and andorians joining forces... conclusion= the normaly paranoid romulans go into fits, they got cought with theyre honds in the cookie jar only trouble is they found a pissed off wasp in there and not sugary delights, i hope amongst hope the new movie will BE the romulan wars, everything on enterprise points towards it, a new power is emerging in the alpha quadrant and the romulans will want to stamp it out before it grows too big, my onley conclusion would be that in effect a romulan invasion will only cause the alpha quadrant to unite under the starfleet banner and that afterwards after the dust settles they form the UFP for mutual self defence *fingers crossed*

Well i also heard that it only plays 100 years from now... So that would be before enterprise? I could be wrong, thoug. I really think that something like the Romulan War and the Federation signing would be awesome..

I heard some rumours of that as well, but I can't remember where from. They were quite old rumours though, so I doubt they are true now.

I thought Enterprise was set 100 years into the future though? I know it is set about 50 years after WW3, and I thought that was about 50 years into the future, so that is...:?...100 years into the future!

I know the general timeline of things, but perhaps i'm wrong. Anyway, the latest rumour i've heard, is that it is set on the Enterprise-F. (A Nighthawk class ship)

It will be set just before a future Federation/Romulan alliance - so it follows the ideas I put in the new series thread...hmmm...perhaps I could be a writer after all...

Course it is a rumour, so I can't say on the validity of the claims...but it is a cool rumour...:D

While I dont remember exact dates, Enterprise is set in the early 2150's. I remember a good couple Log enteries from 2153, and 2154.

 50 + 50 must = 150 then...

Ah well, at least a few things make more sense now...but then others make less sense...hmm...:?
