In the orginal BTOF I have played all of them. Romulans and kinglons are my favorite. IF I have a choice? BORG!

If I have to explain that one, you wouldn't understand! ha ha ha!

(Sings) Dogs of war, and men of hate. No cause we don't negoceate. Discovery, is to be disowned. Our currency is flesh and bone. Hell opened up, and put on sale, gather round and haggle. ( poop I went brain dead an d forgot the rest of the lyrics)

The Borg are gonna be a random event, so that counts them out as a race, i'm afraid. They will appear randomly, and start assimilating eveything in sight from then on.

This means you could still be in with a chance of having them as a playable race, but that'll only be through modded games, not 'official' ones.

Sorry if this dampens your enthusiasm for the game, but at least you still have a bit of a chance.

Love your signature by the way - i'm assuming you don't know that the Federation will be crushed by my Birds of War? Image

Thank you both for the warm welcome. Actually I'm a Strong Romulan.

Just thought I would toss in the Borg to see if anything interesting would happen! In BOTF I actually beat 3 Borg Cubes with a squad of distroyers(9) and 4 battleships. (Not sure haw that happened either as my guys were not cloaked. It took 7 turns. What a blast!!!!

*Sings* Burn Ferengi Burn!, Romulan Inferno!!! **

Make that Birth of the STAR Empire...and who says we would have to MAKE Gavin change it...? 8O

If knowledge is power, then to be unknown, is to be unconquerable. With our spies all around, how do you even know that the game IS going to be called Birth of the Federation 2? I'll leave you to figure out that one...

I think this calls for some demented evil...Image...Romulan inspired, of course....

I say we openly define the name, keeping in mind the name of the prequel and the empire generaly revolved around in the Trek universe combined with the phrase "Federal", which is more politicaly correct than "Imperial", and knowing that knowledge is often not as important as the abbility to talk and write long statements which are not limited such bigot ideas juding people soly on their IQ (this so called "Knowledge" you speak of), but also on their abilities as people and individuals to grow beyond the confines of their society and evolve to be better individuals.

I think this calls for a :D victorious diplomatic smile... Guess who inspired it

This is no time to talk! Unleash the Birds of War!Image

...

Winterhawk, (Cool name by the way) was your game modded or unmodded?

I'm assuming it's modded, coz i've never seen more than one Borg vessel appear at a time, so as such, the Borg were likely considerably weakened to make them work better in the game.

Lets just say Cloaking devices are a considerable weapon in their own right...

Really?

You must have been exceptionally weak to allow that many Borg vessels get into your space in the first place...

Winterhawk is a short short version of my Native American name.

When I encountered the Borg I was taking over the Ferengi home planet.
Ive found when Borg are involved make sure your in a game where your home planets and in the lower right or left hand corner. better for you, hell for the rest of em. I am guessing my game is unmodded. Until I came here I did not know there were other modules out here.

My fun is to set everyone at begginning and type for impossable. Also no minors. they are such a pain.

I also like to set myself at begining mode and raise the rest to level 3 or 4. Then? BATTLE BATTLE BATTLE!!!! hahahahaha!!! I die a lot but it sure is fun to take on 50 ferengi ship with only a few scouts and 9 distroyers.

Yes, I've seen something like that as well. What do you like this: T1 game, playing the Feds. In turn 45(!!!) the first cube appeared, in turn 53 the next one. That really sucked

Try setting the game to easy, lots of minors, highest tech level...play the game for 4,000+ turns, defeat the Borg numerous times, destroy all the major races until they only had one system left, then manage to get them to worship you, (Save regularly, coz I knew the game was buggy, and my computer is...well let's just leave it at old, but there are many other ways to describe it..."!%$&* being another )

AND THEN SCREAM AS MY COMPUTER TOTALLY CRASHES!!!Image

Of course, i've said about this before in the various threads...perhaps that ought to be a warning with your thunderstorm, Wniterhawk?

So you're a native American? Being from the UK, i've never met one before. Pleased to meet you!

Matress of Evil. (excellence in name generation btw)

Hok-eh- hei, washischu! Translated = Welcome white man/eyes !

I notice most of you enjoy playing in the more advanced levels. I started at level 5 easy then worked to 5 impossable. After that I move down to 4 easy and so on till I'm at level 1.

Now you all who love the Romulan empire like me should enjoy this next bit. (Please Do not throw your keyboards at me) I played a level 5 impossable. races many random off. I built a full fleet for each planet. that is 9 of each ship except for transports and colony ships. I also *Gulp* (Ducking here under my desk) used diplomacy throughout the enitre game.
The big Question WHY? An experiment on my part. as I settled a system I moved a fleet to protect that system until it grew to level 9. Also each system contained 15 satilites ( sorry my spelling sucks today). Since also as the game is drawn into quads a - y I think then 1 - 18 , I counted from a1 every other quad until I reached my home planet then started places full star bases at each point. Each Base also carried a full compliment of warships, again 9 of each. I know it sounds like a load of work, but trust me in the long run, what a blast. Accept all treaties except for alliances. Take a planet at a time. move all your ships to cover the gap of the area your fighting in. then build more of everything on Romulan home world. YOU Will rack up the points in the long run. Also you will get battles like you have never seen. I also use single scouts to antagonize everybody. I also have a map of the game board on plastic that I have marked in grid squares and I color who has what and plan out my moves on it. hardest thing to do is watch your credits! Once you have 10 to 15 systems never let your credits per turn drop below 250. Also totally distroy each system. Rebuilding takes to long not to mention the possability of being overthrown. Yes it did take me a while to perfect this, but it has been worth it in the long run.

Oh yes very important.. save your game every 5 turns!

Yeah, well after they had assimilated the Romulan empire, they expanded a bit

Not to worry, the first Defian squadron on patrol intercepted them. Some say they could smell the Romulan warp plasma around the Cubes

_____

Winterhawk, like your game stlye.
Every (or every other) border sector has an outpost, with a starbase every 4 sectors. Defiants patroling around the conquered territories, and Sovereigns threatning the Ferengi next door. I make a booming economy so I can support my oversized fleet and I always have 27 Defiants training at Sol ready to take out the Borg, if the rest of the fleet is too far out. Diplomacy is a must, especialy with minors. I only subject minors if the special building is esential to my strategy, and I rarely EVER bombard the major races, in late game stages. I reduce each empire to the home system, using my fleet supperiority to destroy their morale and the Federation intelligence service (upgraded, courtesy of the Ktarians) to sever relations with their satelites. Ah... BotF...

Jeez, I cant believe how long some of you guys can play a single game of BOTF. It is very rare for me to play a game against the AI any longer than 300-400 turns. By that point, I'm usually the master of the galaxy, whether the other races realize it or not. Back when I first started playing BOTF, I would love to actually completely conquer the whole galaxy, even if I'd been top dog for a long time. Now, if I know I'm much stronger than everyone else, I feel like 'Why bother?'. It could be a new condition to add to the BOTF conditions thread, I'll call it the Three Hundred Turn Itch. And moe, playing the game on easy? Comon, I cant remember the last time I didnt play a game on impossible. Its not like the AI is actually intellegent.

Just wondering, how do you guys set up your new games? Usually I'm on a large, irregular galaxy, many minor races with the randoms turned off (because honestly they just were not done well in that game). My game has been mostly unmodded for a little while, cause most of the mods i tried just made the game easier, which wasnt what I wanted. My usual race choice is Klingons or Cardassians. I just think those two provide more of a challenge than the others, although both the Feds and the Roms can be fun to play with. The Ferengi, Well, I just plain dont like them. (Done in the voice of Stewie from Family Guy.) What about you guys?

Another Romulan here.

Just thought I would weigh in. :)

We should get a formal count of all of the people on the board and their number 1 race of choice.

Could be fun. :)

Yes...I know. I've voted there already.

But it is hardly a list of names to the races. :P

It's just a poll, that seems to suggest the Romulans are most popular.

Of course...it also has the Breen and Dominion that aren't even in BOTF.

So my request is still valid. :P

They don't need to die. They'll just run away when our first warbirds decloak, not knowing double that ammount sneaks to their backs.

Anyway, I realy don't understand indeed how the game can be fun if you play it for over 3000 turns with no competition at all. But I said that enough already, matress. You're just weird, let's keep it at that

I see your point of view clearly. However I would like to say for my own thought process, I play that many turns. I colonize 1 planet/system at a time until it is at the same level as the rest of my empire. I do it for the rush of the battles that happen as the others attempt to overthrow me.

For me it's just a fan way to go. Then again I also do a slash and burn type of play. Rush in wipe out set up starbases move forward only colonizing dieliphim (sp? stinks) systems.

I mentioned about the easy setting, to show you just what a sort of game it was! I don't usually set it to easy, I just wanted to see how quickly I could have a prefect empie...and then I kept playing, and playing, and playing...

I had totally conquered the Galaxy, but i'd left the 'major' empires one system each (Except the Cardassians which I wiped out around turn 200 coz they were after the Trill)

Their single system meant they carried on making fleets every so often, so I could carry on having battles as I wanted.

I then focussed all my money on making the 'empires' worship me (Even though I was destroying them) just for the hell of it.

It was simply a game where I went a bit mad...

Mad Mad Mad I tell you! Lost my head! lol .

If I stopped before I completly took everything over ( and I have ) I lost some of the fun. When I play my slash and burn style, I will wipe out 2 of the 3 races then wipe them out up to the home world. then I back off leaving all the systems empty and distroy my starbases as I back up. I sit back and allow the "chosen race" to rebuild and colonize all the empty planets, then we battle! Sometimes to make it fun I distroy my fleets to the same # my enemy has and build to match them as they grow. Also (sounds stupid) I build a line down the middle of the playng field, every grid with starbases then set 9 battle crusers, 9 distroyers, and 1 scout at every base. Yea at times it takes 200-300 turns for them to grow, but in the mean time I have fun with it!

However I will admit I'm a bit off! LMAO!

I Play as The Romulans my self, and i was dispacthing the Romulan 3rd Imperial Legion to deal with 3 cubes Threatening my border when i ran into one of those random Federation Fleets, you know 97command 32 strike A Bazillion Fast attack. ............. That diddnt turn out too well for my fleet but the borg got ahold of that federation group, so things worked out in the end.

Wow! Glad I'm not the only one who get hammered by 50,000 ships of another race whie the computer shows that my total compelement is way above them by 30 % or so!.

Mosy I run into huge numbers while battling the Ferengi. I would enjoy to battle with the other races in that manorism. I did however figure out a way to defeat a huge mass with min. loss of ships of my own. Yes I did this as Romulan, but as an experiment I also tried it with the other races. It worked the same to my surprise.
