Oscar annd Emmy-winning Star Trek (and Battlestar) artist Doug Drexler is teaming up with Saturn-winning writer Marc Scott Zicree (who has some Star Trek credits as well) on a new sci-fi film project called "Space Command." The project is going to be seeking funding via Kickstarter later in the month. More details below .

Sci-Fi Legends set to launch fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.com for new Feature Film Franchise

SPACE COMMAND will be a series of new and original feature films by STAR TREK writer Marc Zicree, GALACTICA FX whiz Doug Drexler, director Neil Johnson and other Sci-Fi luminaries. Inspired by classic science fiction TV & Film of the 1950s, this dream team is set to bring to life “Bold Adventures in the Far Reaches of Space.”

Beginning May 16th, the filmmakers will bypass the Studios and Networks, going straight to the fans for funding to greenlight their project.

Since Kickstarter’s launch in April 2009, more than 20,000 creative projects have been successfully funded by more than 1.8 Million individual contributors.

Fans who contribute to SPACE COMMAND’s Kickstarter campaign are eligible to receive exclusive rewards in exchange for individual pledges ranging from $5 to $10,000. Contributions of $5000 or greater include rewards of Associate Producer Credit and even an Appearance in the Film.

A game on kickstarter got 3 million. A movie would require a hell of a lot more i would imagine. I just dont see it happening or they get a tiny budget and it will be really bad like somit syfi channel would make but alot worse.

Still, it is nice of them to try funding a space movie and even if it highly doubtful they can get 50-100 million, but if they do then cool.

Wonder if trek fan tv shows could do this to get better funding. That would be awesome.

This made me laugh. Actually it reminded me of one of the sons of the late Muammar Gaddafi (the former dictator in Libya), who once actually paid a lot of money so that he would be allowed to play in a soccer match of Juventus FC in Italy

Really, looking at the site they say consider it a donation and not an investment. There is no guarantee that you would get a part or that the film would even be made. You sure would not get a cut of the profits as if there was any left after paying the guys controlling the money got paid. Better to offering services than cash.

Interesting: In 1953 and 54 both William Shatner and James Doohan appeared in a TV show called Space Command. This was a Canadian children’s science fiction series broadcast by CBC.
