JJ had said, not so long ago, that out of loyalty to Trek fans he wouldn't get involved with Star Wars, even though he is a fan of the latter. Just let me get my bat'leth :klingon: :klingon: :klingon:

I think it will be OK.

It is said JJ will do a Jar Jar Binks origin story extensively exploring his time with the Ewolks.

The latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter features an in-depth profile of Lucasfilm new president Kathleen Kennedy and here is an excerpt from the article.

“I learned firsthand how incredible and persuasive she is”, Abrams (“Star Trek”) tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The thing about any pre-existing franchise — I’d sort of done that…But when I met with Kathy, it was suddenly very tantalizing.”


Kennedy already had called Beth Swofford, Abrams' CAA agent, and been told Abrams was too deeply engaged in the next Star Trek movie and other obligations at Paramount -- not to mention innumerable television projects -- to consider the job. Nonetheless, Abrams agreed to meet with Kennedy on Dec. 14 at his Bad Robot offices in Santa Monica. Famously plain-spoken, she summarizes her pitch like this: "Please do Star Wars."

And she had cards to play. Not only was Oscar winner Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) writing the script, but Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Return of the Jedi, was on board to consult. Abrams "was flipping out when he found out that Michael and Larry were on the movie already," says Kennedy.

Kennedy is confident Abrams is going to be in the director’s chair when the film begins rolling, but isn’t so confident the film will be ready by 2015. “Our goal is to move as quickly as we can, and we’ll see what happens,” says Kennedy. “The timetable we care about is getting the story.”

This carries a certain tone of desperation coming from Disney/Lucas films. Actually, one may translate it to "Obi JJ Kenobi, you're our only hope!"

Of course, what ISN"T good about this is if you tie up JJ Abrams with Star Wars, there won't be as many Star Trek's :waah:

maybe we get lucky and they hire a new one for star trek then
but I guess, in sequence of our timeline, films will only go worse :lol:

Since the new Trek is already quite dark, perhaps they might hire Nolan for the next one if JJ is unavailable. Of course then Kirk will have to start talking with a heavy & deep voice a la Batman: "I'm Kirk" :lol: :lol: :lol:
