Where are the nacelles? |

Not done yet. I spend about 3 hours making and heavily optimising this so far hehe. Next will be the nacels or the rollbar. |

Nice, as you say, very smooth. Where are the rollbars? Or is that the one that Fireball is doing? (No offense if so) Post the pics as you complete the various sections. Have you thought about releasing a mod of models with higher poly counts than the originals? (No offense to the devs this time) |

Nice Miranda I always thought the nacelles were redundant, anyway Btw, what does WIP stand for? |

CVN-65 wrote: Nice Miranda I always thought the nacelles were redundant, anyway Could you explain that peace to me? I've never seen a federation starship without that typical dual-nacelle configuration[1]. I don't think the saucer itself would be able to form a sufficient warp field - to tell my doubts in a treknology style [1] Yes, we talked about those nasty Stargazers and the glorious Prometheus |

Well ships dont have to have nacels to go to warp. As the cardasian Galor class should show you for an example. Also lots of other ships in trek dont have nacels but hidden within the hull there are generators which can do the same job.. Perfect example also is a Borg cube. But for feds we sorta see a built into hull design in the Defiant. But for my miranda im gona have them cool nacels on so there. |

But for feds we sorta see a built into hull design in the Defiant. But for my miranda im gona have them cool nacels on so there. *yawn* We already talked about treknologically warp dynamics and it's geometry issues to ship design. Actually each FTL-travelling species uses nacelles, wether they are build into the primary hull (Cardies, Borg) - which is less efficient according to Mike Okuda's technical diagrams - or not (Starfleet, Klingons, Romulans, Dominion and many others), they are needed to enable the ship to jump into hyperspace. (And yes, you are right, the warp speed can be *maintained* by field generators located in the primary hull, but they can't manage the initial acceleration.) I just said Starfleets design philosophie has always been to have a primary hull, eventually a secondary (engineering-)hull, and two warp nacelles. This has not changed from the Phoenix to Sovereign class, and the defiant class can be seen as the exception because of it's concept as a dedicated warship. And no, I'm not going to accept your miracoulously emerged Xenon-class, hence it's not canon anyway. Sorry this post went to be a rant, I just had the slight feeling you tried to reprehend me in things you don't know in detail, a fact which is proven by such statements as "hidden within the hull there are generators which can do the same job". You may be a brilliant writer of fanfiction and even create nice models, but don't argue with me on Treknology if you just _guess_ how it is supposed to work. |

Post subject: | Re: USS Reliant WIP (Miranda Class) |
Its ok about ur rant i was really just saying about some ships in star trek not needing warp nacels thats all. I know the feds have always gone with the saucer/secondary hull/nacel design and wasnt questioning anyone about it. Just somone said about no nacels and so i explained in remarks not facts about some differences to why some do and dont have them. Also yes fed ships have been designed with external warp field generators (nacels) as it has worked so well for them from early designs. In creating a good warp field bubble which allows the ship to travel FTL. As far as i remember from my startrek fact files i used to collect. Oh that quote you made from the post i did was for CVN-65 not you in particular. On his commend about nacels. Oh by the way why do you say we talked about this allready? (sounds like a whole other conversation the way you typed that reply) This topic is the only time ive talked about nacells to you. Oh and i dont do fanfiction i never have and never will. Oh and what is "Xenon-class"? I've never heard of it before. Except the word xenon from a old spectrum game i think and also one of the enemys in "egosoft developed X games like X2: The Threat". |

Oh! I'm very sorry, it got late yesterday's evening and I suddenly had your nick mixed up with "Scatter". Yes, there is a whole discussion about warp nacelles, their form, their count, and their function. But it's OffTopic in another thread so I don't remember which one it was, but I'll post it to you once I find out again. |

Lol no problem dude we all make mistakes. Also no need to post a link to that discussion as im not that interested abou nacelles at the mo, just on getting this miranda done. Thanks anyhow. |

Right i have updated the model which it now includes nacelles and the connection between nacelles to the pod things on the very sides of the roll bar. I will not take renders yet till its all done which should be by tonite if i do it for a few hours later on. Its shaping up nice tho. Update: Done most of the structure from nacelles to the weapon pod on rollbar, just have to make the weaponpod now and then optimise it a bit and perhaps add in more detail and then its finished. Then once done it will be sent off to jiggly puff for texturing. For those who like higher poly ships, i think you will enjoy this one alot |

Post subject: | Re: USS Reliant WIP (Miranda Class) |
Model is finished theres a few things i havent done accurate so appologies for those detail freaks. The bridge is not as TMP version its more like the DS9 version. Then there is the things on teh saucer that interconet with the secondary ? hull near sides and middle of the saucer. If these do have to be accurate then I will of course do them but the poly is high enough allready at 3000 polys Still its fairly detailed and im sure you will like it. Im running some renders off now so should be done in about an hour (takes awhile to render them nicely ) Once i send it over to JigglyPuff im sure he will do a fab job in texturing her. I might have a crack myself but it probably take too long. So pop back in a hour or two for the renders of the final version of the Miranda class. |

Oh yes, that meets my approval at least. Very nicely done Skeeter, that version is how I personally have always seen the Miranda class. It just looks...unfinished without a Rollbar! 8O (And Nacelles ) I think Jig will definitely like it. |

Isn't this the Soyuz-class then? I'm courious the miranda didn't have a rollbar at all. I always thought this "refit" was reclassified. |

The Soyuz class is very different as you see here The Miranda class has a rollbar Anyhow the main thing is.... Do you like it |

ftranschel wrote: And no, I'm not going to accept your miracoulously emerged Xenon-class, hence it's not canon anyway. This is a bit of a tangent, so you'll have to excuse me... But I'm curious, what exactly is wrong with the Xenon Class? It isn't canon, but it is semi-canon (ie referred to on screen without being seen). If you can accept the Defiant, I'm at a bit of a loss with what's wrong with the Xenon - as it's just basically a larger version of the Defiant. P.S. I chose the Xenon class for my story for three reasons - it has four nacelles, so two could be used for standard warp, and two for the prototype transwarp drive; it only houses a hundred crew (i didn't want a galaxy/sov style "family" ship); and, it has no extended struts on the hull (ie, warp pylons, or a necj to a saucer) with the theory being that a ship like that would struggle to cope with the regular stresses associated with traveling at transwarp. So yeah, the Xenon comes from a trek manual, and is basically a larger Defiant - what's the problem with it? Skeeter: Nice looking model. Next time someone gets the pair of us confused with each other, we should contribute to the confusion - you thank them for reading 'your' fan fic, and i'll take kudos for 'my' 3d models |

Very very nice Miranda. More than a match for poor Enterprise, and Ahdmeehral Kirk. |
