I dont want to spoil the book for anyone who is planning on reading it, but ild like to post things i find out about capt. Riker, his ship, and his crew, as well as the missions they all go on.

Should i?, should i not?

What do you all think?

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan

Nope not techically cannon. (I say that because books are not supposed to be cannon, but to me, if a trek book was good, and doesnt interfere with 'real cannon' trek, then personally I consider that cannon. Until something in one of the episodes contradicts it.)

Personally, I read the Titan book about 3 months ago, so I dont care either way if you post info. If you want to, go for it. If people dont want to know what happens, then they dont have to read your posts.

@TrekBoy: Nope. Supposidally XI is set 150 years before Kirk. :? Wether thts a good idea or not....

TrekBoy, tat one was one of the more boring lost era books. I'm not saying dont read it, but it was a little disapointing to me at least. Have you read any other of the lost era books? If you havent, thee are better ones to read first for sure.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan

kewl, im gona start reading it tonight.
I know its not cannon...but it does follow what happens after nemisis, so i suppose in its own way it is sorta cannon.

Havent heard much about star trek XI, but i have heard rumors that it could be about the titan itself, and i guess its always a posibility.
All i know for certain about star trek XI is that its not supposed to come out for a few years at least, probaly not untill 08 or 09 at the earliest.

Last I heard they wern't planning to make any more movies :S
I'd bet most of what you hear is completely unofficial and just made up by individuals :( Still, we can hope!

I don't imagine they'd make it about the Titan though. Bare in mind that when making a film, they need to bring in cash, and that's the sole aim. The only real way I can see another Trek film getting the go-ahead would be if it was based on the *entire* TNG crew, and not just focusing on 2 characters from it. I also don't think that DS9 or VOY would be options, and they don't have enough of a 'fan base' outside of the die-hard Trek audience - people may have heard of Picard and Data, but probably not Janeway or Sisko.

I did a timy bit of digging. Sadly I found nothing about a new Trek show.

would be nice if they did do one though. Something a lot better then the last few I have heard about here.

I have not read any of the books. I know some date back to early 70's but have not confirmed it.. I just remember seeing a few at the bookstores..

Now the BIG question. How could Riker be in charge of a ship 150 years BEFORE TNG? Something I feel just would not quite play right there for me.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan

The new movie isnt supposed to have anything to do with Riker. Supposidally the movie will not have any known trek character in it.

Well I suppose it may have something to do with Riker, supposidally Jon Frakes has been approached to be director.

Trek books have been out for awhile, like you said Winterhawk. Many of the ones made within the last 10 years are very good. I'd place alot of the books I've read above actual trek episodes.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan

Ok, i read the first 4 chapters so far.

Mostly boring for a trek novel, the titan is still in spacedock in the 4th chapter. Upside is that the novel is doing a good job of describing the various crewmembers. Also something interesting is that melora from the ds9 episode "melora" is part of the crew. He crew quarters are special. Instead of being 3 or 4 conecting rooms on one deck, she has 4 rooms that are on 4 decks, joined one on top of the other. She enters by the bottom room, and flies/floats up into her other rooms. Also special low gravity plating is put into her rooms so her quarters are low level gravity.

Another interesting crewmember is Ranul Keru. He was part of the crew of the enterprise E, during nemisis, however as far as i know he wasent on the movie. His lover/ mate was Lieutenant Hawk, who got killed/assimilated by the borg in First Contact.

Recuring members are Nurse Ogawa, now a doctor.
Deana Troi, who is the ships head councler/ Diplomatic officer.

Ships shuttles are a type 11 shuttle name the armstrong.
A runabout named Irrawaddy (an admirals shuttle). The Irrawaddy may or may not become a permanant shuttle on the titan. It was used by admiral Akaar, and he will acoumpant the titan to romulas.
Other shuttles (type not said) are named Ellington, Gillespie, Holiday, Handy, Beiderbecke, Marsalis, and Mance.

This is just bits and scraps of what i read, i think ill re-read it and take down notes as i go along.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on the next movie. Chances are Paramount are letting Rick Berman just do his own thing until his contract runs out sometime next year, at which point they'll more than likely can the movie.

I suspect that's why a new series isn't on the agenda as well, and IF Paramount are serious about getting rid of Berman, then talk on the matter won't even start until after his contract is finished. Which would mean 2007/08 or even 2008/09 rating season in the US at the very earliest before we could see a new series.

The other possibility is that Paramount IS serious about the movie, and its success or failure will determine the future of the entire franchise.

Tielee, quick question. Did you ever read the book Star Trek The Lost Era: The Sundred? Just wondering, because charcters in that book overlap with the Titan book. Admiral Akaar is in it, but at the time, hes only Cheif of security on the Excelsior (ship The Sundred takes place on). Theres also another very well known officer who was on the Excelsior with Akaar, who will come into play in the Titan book (I wont spoil it for ya though). But the main reason I ask is because the group of 'aliens' the Excelsior encounteres in the Sundred, the Neyel Hegemony, will definately come into play at te very end of the Titan novel, and will definately play amajor role in the second Titan book. If you havent read it, I suggest you do so whenever you finish the Titan novel. Not only is it one of my absolute favorite trek novels, but it helps set the stage for the eventual second Titan book.

....So much for my 'quick' question.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan

nope rigel, havent had the chance to read that book yet.
the point i am in in the first book is after the klingon "relief force" joins up with the titan (there to help the remans), and finaly commander donatra (spelling) from the romulans (star trek nemisis) meets up with both fleets to escort the relief force into romulan space.

On a side note, im keeping track of how many people are on the titan, at least the ones mentioned in the book. I have 4 extras along for the trip atm, admiral akaar, and his 3 aides. I dont know if they will be permanant parts of the crew, i imagine not, but for the moment i have them listed as passengers.

Also to note, the crew is supposed to have 350 personel, with 8 civilians, soon to be 9.

I know that i probaly will never have all 350 listed, but its interesting to try to figure out as many as posible.

Another side note....riker is ripping picard off of most of his crew!
First picard lost his xo (riker), then his counselor (troi), then riker snagged Melora (the head stellar cartographist), then Commander Vale (not sure on her position on the enterprise e), then Alyssa Ogawa (his head Nurse), Then Ranul Keru (his Tactical officer), and then to top it all off he also tried to get both Worf and LaForge (both who declined).

Sounds like Riker is upset at picard or something =P

Ok, im about 3/4ths of the way through the first novel (im going to get the 2nd novel on the 27th, and the 3rd is due out in dec).

The titan is supposed to be a diverse crew of many species and from what i can tell it is so far.

The titan is supposed to have a crew of 350, plus 8 (9 soon) civilians.

This is what i have picked up so far reading the book.

Humans, 10 so far.

Caitian, 1 so far
Lieutenant J.G. Rriar (security)

Betazoid, 1 so far
Commander Deanna Troi (Chief Councelor/ Diplomatic Officer)
(Note 1/2 Betazoid, 1/2 Human)

Bolian, 1 so far
Ensign Waen

and Vulcan, 1 so far
Savalek (dont know rank or department yet)

Besides this, there is 5 extras along for the mission and they may or may not remain part of the crew.

The first is Commander Xin Ra-Havreli, Designer of the U.S.S. Titan, and he is Efrosian (only one on the ship).

2nd is Admiral Leonard James Akaar, he is Capellan, also the only one on the ship.

The other 3 are Admiral Akaar's aides, 3 vulcans known as Sorok, T'rel, and T'sevek.

Other then the names ive seen that they have mentioned a race, i have also seen Ensign Ichi, Security officer Hutchinson, Ensign Kenneth Norellis, Ensign Koasa Rossini, and Ensign Paolo Rossini, unfortunately the book hasent yet specified on their races.

Excluding the passengers along for the trip, that makes 33 of 350 of the crew known, as well as 3 of the 8 civilians known.

Nearly 10% of the crew is already known in just the first book :)

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek Titan /class of ship

U.S.S. Titan, NCC-80102, Luna-class.

The Titan is a midsize Starfleet vessel, approximately 450 meters in length (larger than the U.S.S. Voyager, smaller than the Enterprise-D), with a crew complement of 350. Titan's hull configuration is comparable to other established Starfleet vessels.

The Luna-class is Starfleet's newest-generation long-range explorer, a starship not built specifically for combat, but like the Constitution-class of the previous century, a vessel designed for a long-term multipurpose mission into uncharted space. Equipped with conventional tactical systems (deflector shields; phasers; quantum torpedoes), Titan also boasts state-of-the-art propulsion and cutting-edge scientific equipment, as well as being a testbed for experimental science tech not yet available on other classes.

The Titan is manned by the most varied multispecies crew in Starfleet history, with humans taking up less than 15% of the 350-member crew. The diversity of the crew is intended to facilitate stories that will explore the ways that beings of different cultures, biologies, psychologies, and physical appearances learn how to work together, or fail to, depending on the circumstances they encounter. Titan has eight shuttlecraft of various sizes.

The story behind the Luna-class:
The Luna-Class Development Project was initiated in 2369 in response to the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole, and originally conceived as leading a planned Starfleet wave of deep-space exploration in the Gamma Quadrant. The project was spearheaded by Dr. (Commander) Xin Ra-Havreii, a Starfleet theoretical engineer at Utopia Planitia. Field testing on the prototype U.S.S. Luna was under way by 2372 in the Alpha Quadrant, and construction of the fleet was scheduled to begin the following year. Unfortunately, contact with the Dominion and the subsequent outbreak of hostilities mothballed the project indefinitely, as Starfleet redirected its shipbuilding resources to the production of vessels better suited to combat.

Upon the war's end in late 2375, Dr. Ra-Havreii correctly judged that the Federation's cultural psychology would eventually shift back toward its pre-war ideals, and pushed to have the Luna-class revisited as a major step toward resuming Starfleet's mission of peaceful exploration (even though the class would no longer be assigned exclusively to the exploration of the Gamma Quadrant). Construction of an initial fleet of twelve Luna-class vessels was completed by 2379, and the Titan was offered to William T. Riker, one of many command officers eager to put the strife of the last decade behind him.

The Luna-class fleet:
The ships of the Luna-class are all named for moons in Earth's solar system:

Amalthea
Callisto
Charon
Europa
Galatea
Ganymede
Io
Luna
Oberon
Rhea
Titan
Triton
