Hey everyone,
I must be missing something. I downloaded the database.exe file and launched it. Is this how its just going to look, or is it supposed to install something?

The downloadable version of the Database isn't finished - the actual Database itself isn't finished either, because Iwulff (The guy who is making it) has had a bit of a break from BOTF.
Because he is now 'out of the loop' he doesn't know what is planned for the non-Federation races. Until Gavin brings him up to speed, he won't be able to continue making the Database.
If you'd like, I can send you the most up-to-date version, (1.02, as opposed to version 1.00 that you have) which isn't currently available for download. I've already sent it to people that have asked me for it.
I'll need to know your email addy if you want it.
The version I have has some sound effects, an updated maps section, cycling pictures, some extra info, and a few other bits and pieces. Like I said though, it is NOT finished - it won't be complete until all the race modules have been released for the game, which will be after the game itself has been released.
Hope that helps.

Heh...i'm surprised at you guys!
Didn't you know I had it? I've mentioned it several times before...
The deed is done, i've sent to you both.
I also zipped it coz hotmail doesn't accept exe's.
*Edit - i've sent it to you, Overlord, you posted after i'd loaded the page, so I missed you out!*

Wow.. didn't knew that so many people can't download it, is the link broken or something? I will work harder to finish the database soon. Then there will be a bugfixing period, where you guys could check for errors, and after that i will add even more content if needed.
Is the download not working?
EDIT: apparantly there is a weird version online... which isn;t working correctly.
I can't upload the rightversion now, but will do that when i'm home.

All I can see in the downloads section is version 1.00 of the database. Is there supposed to be a link to version 1.02?

i think so.. but the version online 1.00 isn't working right. But there will come a link to 1.02 today. And i will continue work on it this weekend. Though i still have work on a webshop which i have to create together with someelse as a school project for a company in the Netherlands. So i also will work on my PHP,SQL,CSS and stuff...

They originally all wanted the updated version, iwulff, but if you're putting up a link, it doesn't matter.
Guys, i've still sent it to you, just in case.

Right, i've given TWAAO a quick read, and these are all the cahnges that I think need to be made. The System-Wide habitation project is the section that needs the biggest changes.
1.05 Refits - I'm not sure if ships are going to get refits anymore. Dafedz's stats give no mention of any such upgrades, and I know his stats are gonna be used in the game.
1.12 Supply Vessels - This will need to be confirmed, but I THINK supply vessels have been done away with. You'll just have to keep a watch on the fuel level of your ships.
2.03 Orbital Batteries - These WILL be visible during tactcal combat, and will play an active role in the defense of a system. You may even be able to give them orders.
2.10 System-Wide Dome Construction Project - Could you please delete what is written in that section, and paste in the following, iwulff?:
This is an idea to have a structure to make Moons habitable. Since Moons are not terraformable, you will need to build these structures to actually be able to 'colonise' them. A spin-off secondary structure is also available. This structure increases production in the system, by increasing resource availabilty.
To actually be able to make Moons habitable, they will first need to be Terraformed. Once complete, a Colony ship will then build the Specific habitation structures on every Moon in the system, using the resources available in the system. Like any other structure, you will not be able to build it if you do not have enough resources!

6.01 Victory Conditions - these may need updating, although I am unsure what they currently are.

When I first read this it sounds a bit of a contradiction: First paragraph "Since Moons are not terraformable", then second paragraph it goes on to say "to make Moons habitable, they will first need to be Terraformed". Having read it through a couple of times I know what you mean by the need to terraform, ie make moon ready for the structures.
But it just sounds wrong? Or maybe it's just me, which it quite possible..

I know - i'm confused on this myself!
The reason is that on the forums, we discussed it, and decided that Moons shouldn't be terraformable. There is no canon evidence for it, and if you can build a structure instead, so what would be the point?
Anyways, Dafedz then told us that Moons would be terraformable FULL STOP. (Not that he's one of the decs, although all the stats in the game are based on his)
He also 'forgot' all the stats we had started to agree on (Build costs, energy needs, tech requirements, etc.) when he came up with his own - and apparently these are gonna be used instead!
I just left this little misquote on purpose because of this.
I don't like it when things are changed without people being consulted first. We decided our own stats as a group, so it isn't exactly fair for one person to change them without consultation - or apparently reason.
No offense intended to him intended, his work is good, but it shouldn't be forced on others.

About moons not being terraformed as cannon, why is it that earths moon is a moon with breathable atmosphere and plant life now? As picard said a couple of times about that the picards where one of the first to live on/or was it one of them help colonise it or somit.
Anyway just saying that there sorta cannon in trek its just u dont see it.

That's one of the things we discussed - the Moon doesn't have a breatheable atmosphere as we know it, it has pressure domes.
People still have to wear EV suits to 'go outside'.
That's where part of the original idea for the 'System-Wide Dome Construction project' came from.

That's the quote we based it on.
If you guys still wanna discuss it in the System-Wide Dome Construction Project thread', you're welcome to. That's whole point of threads, afterall.

Hadn't meant to re-hash an old discussion, what's already done in-game is probably set now.
Probably just needs re-wording for clarity is all.

And Ewoks live on the moon of Endor (so is the moon called Endor or is the planet Endor??) ..... doh, sorry, wrong sci-fi site.
Btw ... I would believe that some moons can have an atmosphere and some would be unable to maintain one (such as our moon).

Yah, i'd say the same. Titan has an atmosphere remember, I just wouldn't fancy my chances I I tried to breathe it!
Tempus, if you wanna revive old threads, then go ahead. You may have a new perspective or fresh input on the matters. Just because people haven't posted in them for several months, doesn't mean they are dead!
If people wanna post in a thread coz they think they have a valid point or suggestion, then they can go ahead. These wouldn't be public forums if only certain people could express their views in them.
Everyone has an equal say, and there isn't any right or wrong when it comes to games. It's a good idea to believe <Almost> everything the devs say though.

It's all cool, thanks Matress
Think I've arrived a tad late to be contributing anything much now though. Should have got involved sooner, was quite content to lurk, no regrets.
At this stage of development, I doubt the devs will want to keep changing things, so if we have any personal preferences it will be up to us to mod our own version. Although I have every confidence in the devs to produce a good game!
