Hi all, I've been following the development for a few months now, thought it about time I posted something. :)

It's been said by many already, but I'd like to add my appreciation for the dev team on all their work. Patiently awaiting this game, now it's nearing completion, it's something to look forward to indeed!

Quick question also, I don't recall which thread I read it, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

Is it still the case that the first release of the game will be only playable as the Federation, with further update to allow the other main races to be made playable at a later date? Appologies if I've missed any correction on this account.

Welcome to trek madness here at botf2 forums.

Yes botf2 inital release will probably only have feds as playable, and as time goes by they will proabably release race packs that adds other races as playable.

To be honest, I don't actually know now.

The game was originally gonna be released as mods, with only the Federation playable initially.

This is becuase the Federation is the 'easiest' race to make - a lot of Federation ships are known, and we have 5 series of info to use.

The other races are more difficult. Relatively few of the other Empires ships have ever been seen, and a lot of guesswork has to be done when trying to make them an accurate, but viable Empire for the game.

By releasing the game in stages, it gave the devs longer to make the rest of the game, whilst still allowing us to have the game as early as was possible.

However, the game has now been completed, and it is only because of a lack of ship models that the game hasn't already been released.

So like I said, I just don't know what is happenening now for definite.

My guess is that the game will still be released in stages though, coz I know for a fact that the Romulans haven't got any models at all! :cry:

I'd think they'd have a pretty good idea on what to do for the other races. For balancing they'd need to know they could make, say, 15 Romulan ships if they're making 15 Federation ships.

I won't be too disappointed if Federation are the only playable race to start with, I only ever play them in BOTF 1 anyway :P
But I wonder what race the computer would be playing as then? or maybe to start with it will be multiplayer (Fed vs Fed) only? Surely if the other races were coded as computer players, the jump to making them playable would be minimal :S

From what i understand, only Feds for now, each other race needs its own User interface, custom sounds, perhaps race specific descriptions aswell.

edit: Also i assume all other races will be playd by the computer Ai, it won't just be Fed vs Fed, they jst need there ship models of which i here a majority are complete.

Race specific buildings, specials etc i assume are already done.

If we really want the game why don't we ask gturfrey to forget the screenies and go full steam on the game

erm i said feds only as in only they will be playable, i need to do all the grapic interface pics for all the other races yet, this is why they will not be playable. all the ships will be done for the obvious reasons. all sounds are done thanks to jonnie, well music is, other sounds will be done as i do the grapics i suppose.

Thanks all for the welcome, and quick responses! :)

I generally play Feds, but have a soft spot for Klingons (bit of a contradiction in terms? *ponders*). The Klingon ships just look really cool, plus it's good to be aggressive now and then, vent that frustration. :wink:

Yeah my fav is klingons as well, i just like the warrior race and everything about them especially the ships and how they love to battle all the time.

I have too much of a conscience to be going around bombing innocent worlds :D
Then again, the Ferengi are often driving me to beat them into submission as the Feds. Damn they're annoying.

I've always played Feds but i usually try all of them out to see each of their weaknesses and streangths
