x-files not that sci-fi to me, lost in space was just a family based sitcom in space and outer limits was good, but i wouldn't call it a series as each episode was like a new series

Salve,

I voted for DS9 considering the choice but to me real Sci-fi is something like Dune. Yes, it is only a mini series but there is nothing better outh there!

My all-time favorite sci-fi show was "quantum leap" it was on for only a season or two during the 80's I think or early 90's, starring the guy that plays Captain Archer in enteprise! (forget his name)
Used to love that show... of course, I was much younger then, so maybe if I saw it again, I wouldn't have the same opinion..
From Star tek, my fav cap was piccard, definately. Noone else can repeat his "engage.." with the same tone of voice..
but I also think that ds9 had the best characters (you got to learn more about them, than in the other serials) and Quark takes the cake!

I'm a fan of Stargate, although my favorite of all time is TOS (which of course isn't up there, so i picked stargate). I also like some of the old battlestar and quantum leap (although some parts were more hist. fiction from quantum)

I have to disagree somewhat in this case, though I personally adore the Dune stories (I guess I have read every Dune Novel so far).

1.) Dune is an epic Space Opera, but has a strong link to historism and fanstasy. So its a bit rough to call it Sci Fi - Story. Would be the same, if you'd call Lord of the Rings a "Fairy tale".

2.) Though David Lynchs "Dune" Film back in the 80's was really awesome, all the attempts to bring the story to TV failed horribly. Thas my personal opinion though, so don't bash me on that.

In general I agree with you!

Dune is somewhat an anti Sci-Fi concept that is still Sci-Fi.  I am not really making sense. ...

David Lynch's Dune is absolutely fabulous - so enigmatic - (as usual with Lynch). TV Versions ... children of dune was not that bad but I guess my Dune fascination desensitised me when it came to quality of the movie/series.

only read dune itself but heard (unabridged) everything but chapter house and heretics of dune. How good are they in comparison to the rest?

Dune and QL were both great, too bad they werent on the list. And with Ent on the list, you're just asking for the poll to get hijacked.

Although I like DS9 a little more, I thought I'd reprsent the new Battlestar Galactica (cause I surely wouldnt vote for the original as a favorite). Great actors, great storyline. Top notch show.

Well the original Dune series of six Books written by Frank Herbert is probably best seen and one epic piece. Honestly most concepts in the first and popular book really start to make sense, when you start reading through the other books. And well its as I said, I couldn't say that one book was better then another one, since in the end it has to be seen as one book. You'll soon realize that the books mainly concentrate on the history of the Bene Gesserit, who more then any other faction in Herberts universe seeks and controls power.

As for the recent book series that was written by his son, ....
Well I got a hard time to judge this seriously, but I fear it doesn't quite have the quality of the original. Though I personally loved both, the Prelude books about the youngster time of Leto I., aswell as the book series about the war against the thinking mashines (Butlers Djihad).

Hmm, eh, how could I willingly ignore characters like Count Hasimir Fenring, hmm? or the Titans?

As we speak of Fenring, I do just realize, that he was not realy a Mentat, or was he? He doubtlessly had skills alike, but in the end he focused mainly on the 'assasin' skills of the Mentat training.

Same applies for Duncan Idaho, he didn't become a Mentat before cloned and trained by the Bene Tleilax. He basically was a Swordmaster of Ginaz, if my mind doesn't elude me.

Just show it once a week at the same time its only 14 episodes ....

Well 2x11 Pegasus was really good and its a two part thats why the wait is so hard. 2x12 date yet to be announced 8O

I want to vote for all of those!

I love sci-fi in general. Whilst they all have their own particular faults, they often have redeeming points so I can't really choose. I am a trek nut though, so I chose Voyager.

I loved the fact that the crew slowly became like a family. Sure, the characters might have had their faults, but who doesn't? Image

You can't exactly say that episodes like Year of Hell, Species 8472, snd Equinox were 'mildly pleasing episodes' either! They were incredibbible!

babylon 5 all the way, it is so much more true to how humanity will be than the patetic utopian dream of rodenberry. lets face it, what huma nin a spaceship getting shot at will say "hail them" shields down to 30% captain shall we return fire? "no hail them again" get real, a human would say ok lets blow the crap out of these assholes.

lol, just remembered a link MOE or SOM sent me some time ago...

Star Trek:
WORF:They are fireing disruptors at our warp-core.
PICARD:Solutions, people!
DATA:Sir, perhaps we should lock a tractor beam on them.
RIKER:But that might be a breach of the Prime Directive.
TROI:Captain, I'm curious, how do you feel aobut this?
PICARD:I think we should open fire.
DATA:I don't think that would be in accordance with Federation principles.
TROI:Do you think we should fire?
PICARD:Well, yes. Now I do.
TROI:Tell me more. Why do you want to fire?
PICARD:I think I'll go to my ready-room and moraly debate this with myself.

Compared to Firefly
IDITOT:I think we should save them.
BOSS:You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til you understand who's in ruttin' command here.
