As it was brought up on another thread: http://zone.msn.com/en/root/cdclassic This is the link for MSN Zone, you will need to create an account and install a small piece of software. Once done click on the CD_ROM tab and select 'direct play' from the menu. If it does not show click the tab again and it should. My 'handle' on this site is 'icedg_2', if you add me to your friends i'd be happy to play BOTF and time your online. If everyone else wants to post there MSNZone handle plase do. Puggs, |

Thanks to those who played me this weekend, great fun to play against a human rather than the AI. You forget how much harder it is when you’re playing on-line. Thanks to Jig for teaching the power of the Klingon Scout II, lol, it served me well in another game afterwards. Billy_B, did you manage to get a look at those patches that I pointed you towards? If you need any more info just shout me. If I recall you need to be patched to 1.02 to be able to play at the Zone. You may need to apply one of the XP patches too, but I don’t run XP so I’m not sure what they do. Now I would like to try and get a Large 4/5 player game running next weekend. Any volunteers let me know what spec you like and who you’d like to play as. Peace! (Or if you playing as anyone other than the Feds, war!) |

bacon, i have the same or close problem, and I spent a day on it alone, since i wanted to play really really bad. If what puggsley said doesnt work, then try these instructions i made. What happened to me is when the game started, it froze and wouldnt go any further. When we tried direct IP in the game, i couldnt see the game at all. I concluded that my problem could have been caused by 2 things, the patch or a firewall. The "fixes" are for internet connections that have a internet router (DSL/CABLE/ISDN/ETC) and not modem. Faulty Patch (XP or 1.02) (VERY UNLIKELY) - reinstall and get the patch from a different site. I tried this many many times without success. . Router/firewall settings (Likely) Whats happening: your router or firewall(s) are blocking the ports the game needs to host or to connect to a host. Solution A) This is solved by manually allowing the ports to get through in your router or firewall. I dont know exactly what ports they are, so i used the DMZ function on mine. DMZ will allow all ports to go though. However, i still cant play since i have two routers and one server in my way. Solution B) (if multiple routers) If you do have many routers one after another with firewalls that you cannot access, you can always bypass it. Just haul your computer to the first router (the one connected to the internet) and try to get into that one's software. If you havnt touched it, it should be on default password, you can find it online. Then plug in your computer into the back, and get the IP of your computer. Then when in the router, turn on DMZ to your ip, ie. 192.168.1.2. Solution C) You have a software firewall installed on your computer. This may be the windows one, or zone alarm or something. i dont use them, for multiple reasons, so you can ask someone else how to disable them. That should fix it. Yes, i hope you do know a bit about firewalls/Local area networks/the internet/routers, or this may get a little complicated for the person who cant work on computers well. I may write a simple easy to understand version and post it online somewhere so more people can play. --EDIT-- you may need the Tactical patch if the game crashes when a human goes into tactical combat. |
