Hi Ive only been coming here for a few weeks so not sure on all the details. Is this upcoming BOTF2 a mod to be installed over the original game. Or it is a whole new game? Also is it directx 6 game like the original or are you using a newer build? Will it work on windows xp fully? How are you planing on connection options for multiplayer will it be TCP/IP? How many players can play multiplayer at once also? Will it support higher resolutions? Would be nice to not have to play in 800 x 600 anymore. Well theres my questions sorry if they have been answered before i couldnt find much specific information about the mod in the more recent threads. |

No i read the available races thread and ships etc. Im more interested in knowing about its technical abilities. Like the questions i asked plus things like maximum number of ships in a battle. Combat systems. etc. |

That info hasn't been posed yet. I'd imagine that given the available time of the developers, they'll just release that with the game. |

It will work on XP i think and will also be made with a lobby system to join games over the net. I think its almost certainly going to work with TCP/IP. The new 3d engine is a mystery we havnt even seen what it cant do yet so sorry i cant help there. |

It does look like a good choice, I'm certain it will look better than BoTF either way, which to be fair still doesn't look too bad to this day. |

Post subject: | Re: Information |
For higher resolutions, I think that Gavin has taken them into account, especially because the maps will be so much larger than they could ever hope to have been in BOTF1. 1024x768 or above will likely be the 'standard' resolution, but don't worry if your monitor can't handle that, because some lower resolutions will also be supported. Iwulff (The guy who is developing the ingame help Database) has also told me that his latest update lowers the resolution of the Database to 800x600, since quite a few people (Including me) found it almost impossible to read the text at the original resolution! ... Gavin is definitely making the game work on Windows XP - he's developing it on an XP system, in fact. This means that DirectX 9 will likely be used instead of DirectX 6, although I don't know this for definite. The game <should> still work on older systems, although he apparently isn't gonna test it on older systems - he's gonna leave it up to us to find out about any possible incompatibilities. (Which he may release patches for in the future, but that is up to him to decide) |

Post subject: | Re: Information |
lol, since this thread has kind of gone down the computer specs path, I though I'd post this just to make all the techy people (like me) drool I recently went to the site of my "kind of local" computer store and built the best possible computer I could, just for fun. (for now... ) (and you're absolutely right: I have neither life, nor job ) Here are the specs: Processor: AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 @ 2.8GHz Memory: 4GB of DDR2 RAM Hard Drive: 2 Seagate Barracuda 400GB SATA Graphics Card: 2 MSI 7800GTX 256MB PCI-E on an SLI board Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2ZS Platinum Pro Damn, with all that and moniter, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc... it would make the X-Box 360 look like a Commodore 64 Now, does anyone have $8000 I can borrow? |

You lucky (censored by myself) What Motherboard have you got powering that? ASUS A8N Deluxe maybe? |

Post subject: | Re: Information |
Just for comparison... Current specs AMD XP 1900+ (1.6ghz) 768 DDR Ram geforce 4 ti4200 - 64ddr (latest drivers) soundblaster live card 19" Hansol 930D (dynaflat montior) Upgrading to when all parts are bought. AMD 64 3000+ (1.8ghz but equivelent of p4 3ghz) (might overclock to 3500+ speeds. Asus A8V Deluxe rev 2 1gb DDR 3200 speed asus v9999 gamer edition (6800 @ GT speeds) soundblaster audigy from mate. Im upgrading for alot of things but one is that so i can play absolutly massive 3d battles in botf2 when its out. Also dunno how intensive large maps will be so upgrading for them as well. About 1000 sectors for starters then go up to 5000 then 10000, depends how long the games take. |

I think I'll add to the spam: Athlon xp 3500+ Abit AV8-pro motherboard 1 Gb DDR FX 5200 (I'll be buying a 6800 in a few weeks) Two other crappy pci video cards A Western Digital 60 GB HDD and a Seagate 160 GB HDD And the part I'm most proud of: 3 moniters. Yeah, 3. |

3 Monitors?! 8O Since you guys have done so, here's my spam. I don't really understand much about computer specs, but I think mine are pretty good. (Except for the monitor) Advent T9003 (Upgraded RAM) Pentium 4 540 Processor, 3.21 Ghz (I think i have two of them, since there are two listed in the system properties) 1Gb RAM 250Gb Hard drive 16x DVD-ROM, 16xDVD-RW Multi Region (Double layer) 2x Radeon 9250 256Mb AverMadia TV Tuner card Not sure if I even have a sound card, but my computer does play sound and music! Packard Bell A520 CRT Monitor |

Matress_of_evil wrote: Pentium 4 540 Processor, 3.21 Ghz (I think i have two of them, since there are two listed in the system properties) I'm pretty sure you have one CPU, but the windows OS shows you two because of it's "HyperThreading"-ability. This has in fact nothing to do with "DualCore", it just means that two different kinds of calculation (say an integer-addition and a float-division) can be calculated simultaneously if the very program supports this. To add to the Spam: Dell Inspiron 8600c Pentium M 1.7 GHz (Dothan core) 512 MB RAM 80GB Toshiba harddisk 54MBit WLAN / 100MBit Ethernet "Ati Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo" (Dell calls it this way ^^) 15.,4" WUXGA+ display with a native resolution of 1920x1200 pixels |

lol, the one I put before isn't my actual computer, (I'm not that rich) just one I made on a website. @TrekBoyChris: Right on. ASUS A8N-SLI-DX was the board @sideeffect: just looked at the motherboard specs again and you're right. I'll have to settle with DDR400. Thx. these are my actual stats: Processor: Intel P4 at 2.8Ghz with HT Motherboard: AOPEN brand, not sure model Memory: 512MB DDR333, soon to be doubled Hard Drive: 80 GB Maxtor 6Y080M0 Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Live Vid Card: ATI Radeon 9600XT Speakers: 2 Aopen with Sub all else is pretty basic (Still waiting for that $8000...) |
