 Diplomacy and Race Attitude

I was just playing some BOTF, with the Klingons.

And what was really starting to annoy me was race attitudes and diplomacy.

Each time I met a major race, it was WAR! Including The Federation

Race attitude seems to change much too much over a short space of time. And Demands for Money! It only then dawned on me how ridiculous they are, and they use it too much, it turns into the definitive factor of war, go low enough and they declare war

Lets have some decent demands like Technology Data, passage through the territory for a turn or so(without affiliation)

I think it would be better if we had slower race attitudes, basically more Canon diplomacies. There should be about 4 major wars in the whole game (roughly) and each war should be a big one.

I was also wondering about Membership, much harder to achieve, apart from certain cases. There should also be some races that will never join you however many gifts (and referring to the demand point, maybe better gifts) you give them (romulans and vulcans, peace-lovers and klingons)

And again gifts should not be the definitive action in attitude.

Having been around for a smaller time than others, I may have missed a few of the discussions which are probably less relevant now anyway.

I realise this basically is a question (s) to Gavin or the play-testers (on a smaller extent) but Gavin said he didn't mind any questions.

How is the present situation then

Cheers

(Oh and are there any extra victory conditions)

I think that several of these things have already been decided on by Gavin.

I don't know exactly what he has done, but i'm sure I read somewhere that if say, the Anticans join you, then you will never get the Selay to also join you.

The game is gonna be far more 'intelligent' than its predecessor, and both long and short-term trends in attitude change will be worked out properly by the game. The races will act accordingly, rahter than randomly declaring war as they used to. :D

The addition of being able to send messages and receive replies also means it will seem far more realistic.

There shouldn't be any need to worry, Gavin has thought of these things, so i'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.

Seems to be pretty easy to figure to me. If you are the first major and AI meets it will declare war on you.

I have noticed this when a major will not make peace with me. Then i see on the relationships screen that they have met another major and suddenly they offer a peace treaty.

The only time i have seen this work in a different way has been if i was in a very weak position for some reason. The Ai will obviously gang up on the weakest player.

Also if you are aggressive in your expansion and colonies planets right next to the major races existing systems then they will get very upset and likely try to fight you. The only time you can do this and not get a response is when the AI is busy fighting another major or you already have a strong peace treaty in place.
