Does this thing actually do anything?
If so, do I just run it from the BOTF directory to patch?

I'm referring to the file named "tacticalcombatfix.zip" which can be downloaded from the armadafleetcommand botf site. It gets mixed feedback on the download page.

Thanks!

The patch is an update that you should only really install if your game crashes during tactical combat.

It replaces some of the graphics files or something, so the crash doesn't happen.

To make the program work, just unzip the file once it has downloaded, then click on the program and let it run. It should do the rest for you.

Personally, I found the game crashes more often after installing that patch. So unless you have realy much difficulty with combat, I suggest you leave it.

It seems like my game crashes in multi about 1 out of every 10 battles. Typically it crashes toward the end of a battle... sometimes right as weapons are being fired.

A buddy of mine have been playing via TCP the last few nights. Is there some sort of multiplayer patch that improves stability?

Thanks for all the insight!

A multi patch?

Not that I know of. The best thing to do is try and make sure you both have the EXACT same files in your games - I know, that can be difficult to do, since trek.exe is between 70 and 80 meg depending on how heavily modded it is, but that's the only way I can think of to improve the stability of the game.

That said, i've never actually played a multi game before, so there probably are other ways...

Oh, and why did you guys think I said you should only install the crash fix patch if your game crashes often?

what are you talking about? trek.exe 70-80 mb??? you mean the stbotf.res, not the trek.exe, right?

I use those words as a way out of an embarrasing situation...

I GOT SOMETHING WRONG! WAAAAA!

As Iwulff rightly pointed out, I meant stbof.res is around 70-80meg, not trek.exe.
