If anyone else entered the Titan Design Contest, let's post our designs and share them! Perhaps one of you will win, and I for one would like to see them. It doesn't matter, now, since they have all been submitted! My own submission is the main character in a tragic tale of woe to be discussed below!
So I entered the Titan Design Contest. Or rather, I thought I did. Apparently, my e-mail provider decided that this would be the one (and ONLY one) message it would have problems with. Apparently the file was too large to send. What's really odd is that I sent other people a copy, which turned out to be even bigger, and it worked just fine.
So I'm a little bitter about that!
Anyway, since even if they get my last, late, desperate attempt to send a smaller version, it will be ineligible (since it was sent in too late), I'd still like some feedback.
I think this is a decent design, and want to know what you all think!

A true all purpose ship. Wish I could read what you wrote..
BTW what program did you use to build it?

Nice design. From the side, it looks like a cross between a Galaxy and an Intrepid. From above...more like an Intrepid/Akira cross. Nicely done!
Heh...from the front, it almost looks like an Oberth!
(These are not criticisms, just observations - are they intentional designs?)
Oh, and I CAN just about read the info.
It's not quite as powerful as Skeeter's USS Illustrious though...

Beautiful ship! How did you create it? Does anyone agree that would look great in Bridge Commander?

Thanks, guys!
I'll try to answer your questions about her!
-I used Macromedia Freehand to make it (but couldn't figure out how to color it, ultimately the root of the Story of Woe)
-I wanted her to be 'similar to established Starfleet designs' as per the rules of the contest. I really liked the shape, (knowing that at first glance it's kinda unique) so I spent a while trying to incorporate as many aspects of other designs as possible. You'll find Akira, Intrepid, Galaxy (a tiny bit), Sovereign, Oberth, and even NX and 'Neptune' classes (small destroyer from ENT - really should be the Feds first destroyer, now that I think about it)
-Glad you all think she's sleek and powerful, but that's a bit more than I was going for. You see, the Luna class is designed for exploration, not battle (but can defend herself). So I wanted to make a starship that looked less aggressive than anything built in say, the last ten years of Trek. So stats wise, she's not that well armed (but very well covered, decent firing arcs. So I wasn't going for uber powerful, but I was definitely going for sleek. In a deleted scene from ST:NEM, Riker supposedly says that "she's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen"!
Here is the text from the info boxes:
Length: 450 meters
Beam: 278 meters
Height: 105 meters
Decks: 21
Mass: 2,985,000 metric tons
Crew: 350
Evacuation Limit: 3500
Armament:
9 Type X phaser arrays
2 Rapid-fire torpedo
launchers capable of
firing Quantum torpdoes
or Mk. VI Photon Torpedoes
Cruising Velocity: Warp 9.2
Maximum Velocity: Warp 9.99
(36 hour endurance)
Mission Endurance: 8 years
The Luna Class Starships are designed to become the premier exploration vessel of the Federation, taking on the exploratory and surveying duties from more traditional explorer-type starships such as the Galaxy class starships. Both the Galaxy and Sovereign class explorers have been primarily used in deterrence and support missions deep in the core of the Federation. The exploration role thus has often fallen on ships intended for specific scientific missions such as the Intrepid and Nova classes, or other even less capable starships.
The Luna class changes this trend. this dedicated exploration vessel will almost certainly lead the Federation towards new frontiers of science and knowledge. Utilizing the latest in sensor and computer technology, this class is even more capable at exploration and surveying missions than even the venerable Galaxy class, and is far less expensive to maintain in the distant reaches of theGalaxy. Like the explorers of a century ago, the Luna class is practically self-sufficient, allowing very long-term missions.
The design of the class utilizes the latest warp field geometry advances, and the structure of the starship is based upon several proven designs such as the Oberth, Akira, and Sovereign classes. Other aspects of the design are based upon the Intrepid, NX, Norway, and Neptune class starships.

So this ship is better than the Galaxy but not the Sovereign? You could get a deatailed spec by using the Ship Strength calculator at http://www.ditl.org/.
IF ANYONE HERE KNOWS HOW TO MOD BRIDGE COMMANDER PLEASE PLEASE MOD THIS BLODDY GOOD VESSEL! Also Jarok could you mod this for BOTF II?

Try downloading it and opening it with a picture viewer?
OR.....
PM me your email and I'll send you the real (quite large) files for you to view more closely....
Also, if anyone who can model 3D ships wants, I'll send them the drawings, too, (just please remember to credit the designer! ) I would love to see this in a 'future mod', if enough other people like it!
Thanks for your support, guys!!!
EDIT: I found out that my e-mail wasn't the problem. I bet that Simon&Schuster et.al.'s server couldn't deal with the volume of submissions, and mine was a pretty hefty file (since I sent both B/W and color version....in hindsight, a bad move, but.... )
I re-sent the smaller version, but since it's late I'm not expecting much. We'll see, I guess!

Glad you like it!
In terms of tactical ability, you are correct. the Lunaclass is somewhere between a Galaxy and a Sovereign. I'd actually put it at closer or less than a Galaxy, since she lacks the Galaxy's burst-fire torpedoes, and there's no reason we shouldnt' expect to see Galaxys with quantums in the near future, if not already.
In terms of exploration, I meant that she'll replace both the Galaxy and Sovereign in the exploration role, since both those types have never been seen to do actual exploring since about the third season of TNG! So a new exploration ship is needed, and the Luna class will spearhead the new surveyors. Thus, with most of her systems dedicated to research, she is actually a better explorer than either starship, but lacks either the tactical prowess or some of the multi-mission capabilities. Think Enterprise 1701 (no bloody A, B, C orD), not Enterprise D or E.

Ya, TrekBoyChris, the Titan design competition is to design Riker's new ship.
...
The Illustrious is a series of fanfics that Skeeter is working on. He's writing them as though they were actual episodes of Trek, so they're great to read (Although time consuming, averaging at around 40-50 pages)
Here's the link if you want to have a read. You have to download each one separately though.
http://www.users.on.net/~scatter/episodes.asp
The actual ship is here:
http://www.users.on.net/~scatter/ship.asp
Skeeter has some pictures of it, as well as an explanation of where the design came from etc.
...
Scatter, I based the power of the ships on the number/type of weapons of each ship.
These are the Luna classes' stats:
Armament:
9 Type X Phaser arrays
2 Rapid-fire torpedo launchers capable of firing Quantum Torpedoes or Mk. VI Photon Torpedoes
And based on Skeeter's first fanfic, these are the Illustrious's stats:
8 Class Two Rapid-Fire Phaser Pulse Cannons
4 Type XII Phaser Arrays
1 Anti-Matter Spread Emitter
1 Rapid-Fire Quantum Torpedo Turret
5 Pulse-Fire Quantum Torpedo Tubes
1 Combined Probe/Photon Torpedo Tube
A total capacity of 300 Micro-Photons, and 800 Quantum Torpedoes.
If that isn't enough, we are also told that the Illustrious has:
Type 2 Auto-Modulated High-Capacity Regenerative Shielding
Standard Double Duranium-Tritanium Hull SuperStructure
35cm Ablative Hull Armor
So which one sounds more powerful? 8O

Just trying to keep you guys on your toes...
Oh, sorry I haven't commented on the actual fanfics yet, SCATTER, I haven't had much time to read big long things lately.
I managed to read the first one this morning, and I have to say it sounds promising. I can't wait til i've got enough time to read the next one in full!
You know, there could be an actual series in there...I don't work for Paramount though.
I like the time period you've set it in. It's contemporary with ('Modern') Trek, yet it is still in the future. The aftermath of the Dominion war is a time that I think needs to be explored by Trek, whether in a one-off episode or a full-blow series (Hopefully the latter )
They bothered to have the war, afterall, why not have the clearing up and getting back to normal?
Keep up the writing, SKEETER.
*Edit, now I understand what your earlier post about Skeeter's USS Illustrious means!) *

Mastress for the love of......
SCATTER, Why don't you contact Pocket Books, they could be your ticket for a lucky break.
Mastress, as your a Romulan living in Wales, then surely you can get in to the headquarters of Paramount. The Welsh have very keen eyes so you must be well hidden

doubt it for a number of reasons -
i write scripts, pocket books publish prose. i would have te rewrite everything into novella format.
pocket books and paramount have recently announced a reduction in trek books being published.

What is it with them?
Why are they so determined to kill off Trek? If anything, they should be doing what they can to save it!
They've made $59 Billion from it! How can they possibly kill it off?!
Paramount neds a good slap to set them right on the issue...

downsizeit: Yes your correct, but you don't have to be so negative. I didn't want to make it difficult, if i did it would go in the trek trivia topics .
About Trek: I still think that there were enough viewers to keep it popular, and i doubt that even if TrekUnited has raised $21,000,000 that production would have been resumed. The viewers wouldn't have returned anyway..... At least a Star Trek XI is on the cards

From Paramount
After receiving hundreds of entries, I'm pleased to announce the winner of the Starship Titan Design Contest: Sean Tourangeau of Colorado Springs, CO. Sean's combined score was highest in the categories of originality, execution, consistency with the U.S.S. Titan Concept Notes, and consistency with Star Trek's established Starfleet style.
Sean's design (displayed below) will be featured on the interior pages of the fourth Star Trek Titan novel, to be published in January, 2007, and will be used as the basis for cover art on that book.
The designs of the top runners-up in the competition will be posted on this site next week.
On behalf of judges Paula Block, Margaret Clark, Doug Drexler, Jennifer Heddle, Elisa Kassin, Michael Okuda, David Rossi, Edward Schlesinger, Scott Shannon, Rick Sternbach, and John Van Citters, I'd like to congratulate Sean and thank all the fans who participated in making the contest such a fun experience and such a resounding success.

Well it's a beautiful ship, but it would have expected a different design for the titan class vessels. I really liked the other ship at scifi meshed, but perhaps that ship was to smooth...
