steam is a very unreliable program. to put it simply, it is a horrible program, and a step back for playing games.

i also built mine from scratch....

Just some advice:

i have a small job of fixing computers. 8/10 computers that have hardware problems are dells. seriously... dells, i highly suggest against them.

another story about dells:
Once, i had a case where a couple comptuer "experts" couldnt fix a computer. My friend was going to trash it. it was a dell, and i decided, hey its a P4, i'll at least scrap it, got it for free. Took me 7 hours to fix, had tons of problems, ill post them if someone wants to know. but now its running as my server :). I got a free server + a Geforce 4, MSRP at over $200

funny fact for ya here, the term "Dell" was a slang word in the early 80's for someone that is a complete f**k up. I know how to make desktops but have no idea how to make a laptop, the one i have now is a cheap stand in till i get an Alienware. plus im waiting for a wee while since computer technology is changing in the near future with the advent of digital data storage.

Next time buy a AMD Opteron 146 cpu its 2ghz stock but can overclock to 3ghz on air and beats a fx for performance. Only costs £120. Tho need the right stepping and revision.
