What do you think about it?
Personally I think that its going quite well, but has several really big flaws which I think need to be addressed.
The first problem I have is that they cant really have people going around and upgrading there Starfleet vessels like most MMORPG's allow, but they cant not have some sort of upgrades system, as the game would be very limited without it. The only way I can think of it is that every few stardates or whatever you can book time in a Dry Dock and perform the heavy upgrades there.
and for smaller upgrades and modifications you can have your Engineer upgrade things, I.e your engineer can only upgrade your ship based on the level of his abilities.
And then there is the problem of Griefers and such. There are bound to be people who will go around killing other players for fun.
And as currently they are only planning to release with Federation Races. it could cause some sort of problem. Im hoping maybe you dont have to join starfleet, so that the game will be more "cannon" so people could for instance join the Orion Syndicate.
What I really look forward to is, that you can have several people on 1 ship, as well as control it just by yourself.
this means that if you had 2 fleets opposing each other. with one fleet having 10 ships, and the other fleet having 10 identical ships. the only difference is that 1 of the fleets has 4 people manning each of there ships.
This means that co-operation between players will make them more able and a lot more likely to survive. without making it a requirement that they have help.
Not only does this create very good bonds with other people, but it doesnt force you to.
I am really looking forward to this
what are your thoughts? (read through the FAQ and Dev Blogs)

I'm looking forward to it.. but I'm expecting a huge let-down.
SWG sucked, and still sucks, unless you like grinding. If I wanted to do that though, or use some cheap script, I'd get a monatonous job where I had to stamp 10,000 letters with a company address in order to 'level up' in pay -- by a penny. A penny which would have to be crafted by myself, no less. But crafting one requires a mint. The knowledge of making a mint, from dirt I collect in the parking lot, requires folding 10,000 letters and placing them in envelopes.
I hope STO avoids that somehow.. they have to tread careful on everything to make it a success. Like modding ships; in a canon sense, I can see slight enhancements from ship to ship due to having a good engineer -- La Forge personally tweaked countless aspects of the Enterprise, and I'd hate seeing one Miranda class ship being run of the mill and another pimped out with quantum torpedo tubes and Type X phaser arrays.. ARRAYS... Enterprise put off the hard-core old-time Trekie in me with that kind of thing.
But without upgrades, and possibly without true ownership of a ship (if a Captain refuses to listen to an Admiral, in game, there should be both the possibility of the crew doing the right thing and overthrowing the Captain, and if not, there should be repercussions, ie, dispatching a few other ships to intercept this renegade one), they do need to find something to make being a Captain worthwhile. I'd think it may be seen as a large stepping stone to being Admiral, where you can control dozens or hundreds of player run ships, perhaps in a war or skirmish against AIs or something, but still.
just too much up in the air to get me too excited.
Morden; sent you a pm so I dont go OT here.

Bedides WoW, I have yet to see a MMORPG to be succesfull. And I have enormous doubts about STO. Why? Since in WoW you could do whatever you want. You go where you want to go (and there are a hell of a lot places to go!). Suppose you are just a random ensign aboard a starship. You can't leave the ship, but what the heck are you supposed to do all day?
Scrubbing plasma conduits?

yeah but thats not an mmorpg, Thats one of them games where people think a) they are gods gift to first person shooters and unparalelled in skill, aka L33T and roxxor
b) anybody that isn't as "skilled" at jumping arround while keeping the cross hair on your opponent and or dies is a No0b and therefore needs to be told it all the time
c) if they die then obviousley you must have done it by cheating and in that case add a+b above and then impliment
d) average age of 12 physicaly and or emotionaly
though battle front looks effin kick ass to me when i get it i'll play it stand alone.
