I`ve been playing with a game engine with the view to makeing a small wargame, basicly fleets going at it  this is how far i`ve gotten so far, it is a lot more complex than i thought but i reckon it a few weeks i`ll have the battle for cardassia up and running.

Hey that looks cool Jig!

It's nice to see that Cardassia is just Earth upside-down though.

Are you going to make it available for download when it's complete?

I'm sure that people here on the site won't say "no" to something like this whilst they wait for BOTF2. :)

Actually, is it based on BOTF2 at all? If it was a sign of things to come, people will be very happy to see such an engine at work... :D

I had a feeling it might be the BOTF2 engine.

General, i see your location is KODIAK-B. That wouldn't happen to be the Starbase118 ship KODIAK-B would it?

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

it`s the a6 engine from conitec, i had no other planet ready when i put this togethar  ya i`ll put it up dl when it`s done, i`m aiming for up to 200 ships in the end, from all races :D trek boy please don`t go off topic.

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

Hope you make the scale right as in make the planet absolutly massive to fill the screen. :)

Author:  jigalypuff [ 10 Dec 2005, 23:17 ]
Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

the galor is actually tiny compared to the planet it must be the angle the shot was taken, but once i figure out how to use multipile cameras it should look better :D

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

200 ships from all races? that must be killer to get a good camera angle and lighting.

im just going to answer TrekBoyChris' question, and i'll be on my way - i wont drift any more off topic.

ok got a rudimanntry ai in place, it will chase your ships but for some reason if it goes past them they won`t turn around and keep attacking  working on that  something i discovered by accident, you can have a really cool cloaking feature, you see the ships slowly vanish, just like the show :D very very cool.

once i have the code all worked out, then any battle could be done, it would just be a case of replaceing models :D sacrifice of angels anyone?

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

just spoken to map and he has suggested turning this into a full rts like armada, i probably will once the code for combat is done, all i `ll have to do is add new scripts for missions, anyone here like an armada style game to go with their botf2?

Author:  zahadoom [ 23 Dec 2005, 15:51 ]
Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

ive suggested this before i think, but would it be possible to make the tactical combat of birth 2 like that of armada. In saying this i mean that instead the planed tactical combat we have an armada style integrated into birth. so when ships meet on the galactic map we are trasported to an armada style realtime combat complet with asteroids, nebula planets and moons, and suns. I think that it would give the whole game a more trek feal to it by taking elements of both games.....just a sugestion

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

Not realy to be honest. As it was suggested before with a C&C-style ground-combat system. I realy dislike the combination of true Real-Time strategy in a Turn-based game. It takes too long to play out and is a bit limiting in my opinion. And if you want to take away those limitations, it is going to take you a hell of a lot more time to code. The Combat system BotF used is better than any other turn-based, 4X game I've ever played.
So if you ask me, stick to that one and don't make it overly complicated.

Besides, I thought the code itself was already written and compiled and that the only thing that was realy missing were the models and UI. I take it the combat engine is included in that..

Post subject:  Re: Messing Around

Map. aka Major a payne, one of the best armada modders out there, he is currently doing borg incursion vital respones as the grand finish to his borg incursion mods. in fact if you tried my botf borg incursion mod the armoured cube was his model :D
just noticed the previous two posts, this will be a different game guys, not a part of botf2
