ok this rumour is baffling me, Theres no official news about it on the site, I even went to the startrek.com forum and saw posts from members asking if its true, the admins seem just as baffled, so far it seems just to be rumours only. Theres no real reason for them to close it because of the domain name issue and the fact they will still hafta shell out for it or lose it. |

Why the hell are they closing it down anyway? What's the f***ing point? I could name plenty of things that aren't in the limelightat the moment - but are their site's closing down? This is probably a Paramount thing |

If you guys hadn't noticed, I posted an email that i received a few days ago on the same subject. The email was from the saveenterprise yahoo group. They were the first people that i've heard the rumour from, but in the last few days, it seems to have spiralled. Afterall, it IS pretty big news - IF it's true. The moment I heard about it, I checked out startrek.com, as you guys obviously did as well. And as Michae1ange1o said, there's NO official announcement. Either this is a VERY clever ploy by the Trek people to get interest going again/get more hits on the site (Which I doubt, otherwise Enterprise would never have turned out as it did and Star Trek wouldn't be in the mess it currently is) or it is a very spiteful rumour that was probably started by the same people that killed Enterprise. I prefer the latter, although if its true, the only fitting punishment would be a Disruptor in their faces. |

i hate when rumours like this get circulated. its horrible, because you dont know if they are true or not. the worst bit is that it hasnt been officially confirmed or denied. i know the old saying 'no news is good news', but in this case i dont beleive it. |

Post subject: | Re: Goodbye Startrek.com |
I'm beginning to think it may be a malicious rumour started by someone at save enterprise, the idea may be to get many people realy miffed at Tim Gaskill and paramount that they bombard them with emails and kick up a protest stink since enterprise is kinda dropping out of the limelight now..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Off topic a second, Silvercliff, is the "without your pants" a line from that 90's kids show set down under with the kids in a lighthouse? was it called "Round the twist" or something like it? |

Admiral Willie, there is a thread about why people hate enterprise only a few spots below this one. I suggest you read it, it's quite interesting. I do can understand paramount if they decide to close the site. Since there is no active series going on and no movies, series, or other things Trek planned, there is damned little news to tell. I for one, hope it isn't true. But somewhere, I have a strong feeling it is.. |

Heh...I remember that series as well. I quite liked it - although it was strange. God bless Australians for their shows! ... Perhaps bombarding Paramount with emails is a good thing? Theres nothing like consumer pressure when it comes to getting a company to do something... |

well then, it is time... *gets email spammer out of 'dusty' folder on hdd and yes it was a good show. in the beginning, but the last series or 2 was S@#T. |

On the one hand, it doesn't cost them much to operate. On the other hand, they get absolutely nothing out of it for the time being, and makes no business sense in keeping it up. It's not like closing it would cripple the fanbase and burn their bridges for future shows. So with that analysis, if they're thinking from a business perspective, I'd believe they'd shut it down. It's a sentimental blow, for sure, but there's GREAT news sites out there, and who here visited StarTrek.com as much as they do botfii.armadafleetcommand.com? It'll be back, one of these days I dont think any specific group set out to kill Enterprise though; unless if by set out to kill you mean not watching, then yeah, but can't blame some. I doubt non-trekkies would care enough to dislike it for many of the things older trekkies do anyway. And no true trek fan like us would ever try to get an iconic site like that taken down.. No, this isn't an insurgent attack to smear a show and franchise, it's just Paramount being tight with the purse strings is all. SyFyPortal.com isn't bad (it'll be back with a new site in Jan), TrekWeb.com isn't bad either. I did send a good one or two page rant at them (Startrek.com) when I first heard about it though, so did my part! Not that I got anything back, but.. go figure. |

Never really went to the official site, as to tell you the truth there are far better trek sites out there with more info and media. Still, its startrek so i will be disapointed to see it go. To be honest I don't think it will totally go as i think it may just be getting a overhaul so there closing it for a bit to do up or maybe a new domain name. |

I dont know what their forums are like, but the Ex Astris Scientia that trek boy chris noted really is top-notch. Alpha Prime isn't bad for its info either, I think I linked to it in another thread. ditl.org is pretty good for info too. |

Yeah, Memory Alpha.. Alpha Prime, sort of close Section31.com is trying, slowly, to come alive again.. doing some conversion to php and mysql, and eventually might be a go-to place. I volunteered to write articles and post news, but it wont be ready for a little while yet. btw, I always liked Section31.com articles on the UFP's government, heh. |

You need to watch more DS9, TrekBoy! They're the organisation charged with dealing with all threats to the Federation - by any and all means necessary, from both within, and outside the Federation. They do not officially exist. They have no specific buildings, and there are no official documents that mention them, other than (Purportedly - and even then only if you read the right section of it in the right way) the Federation charter. They are the Federation's equivalent of the Tal Shiar or the Obsidian Order, except they are completely invisible by comparison. (Since they don't officially exist - everyone knows the Tal Shiar and Obsidian Order exist) ... Zach, how do you know Startrek.com has been saved? Since there hasn't been an official announcement of it closing in the first place, how can they announce that its been saved? I love your podcasts by the way. |

I doubt this will affect us, TrekBoy, but I just found this bit of news on Gamespot (An American gaming site): Quote: G4 to keep on Trek-king ..................................................................................................... Game-centric cable network will soon be airing reruns of celebrated sci-fi series Star Trek In an attempt to further up its geek quotient, the game-centric G4 cable channel is aiming to acquire the rights to the Star Trek television series and its spin-offs. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Comcast, G4's owner, is in final negotiations with Paramount Domestic Television, the unit of Viacom that owns the license. The trade also said that the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation will begin airing on G4 on January 8, 2006, with the original Star Trek series beginning in the second quarter. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/startrekonline/news.html?sid=6141587 Isn't it annoying when people spell "Trekking" wrong...? |

I knew startrek.com wasnt going anywhere. I bet it was just a ploy by someone at startrek.com to generate more hits for their site before the end of the year. |
