Will the Doomsday machine be in the game as a random event?

Hey, welcome to the site! Enjoy!
I am not a developer, so I can't say for sure, but it really depends on how exhaustive they would be. I know there will be tougher (and smarter) Borg, possibly even 8472, plus all the original BoTF events. I'd imagine that the planet-killer might be there, but can't say for sure. I'd suggest looking around for a random events thread, or check for any final lists!
Anyway, happy posting!

Hey there! Welcome to the site!
The official random events for the game have never been released. Me and a guy called OmniQ did work on creating our own list for quite a while, but we haven't bothered in the last few months because no-one would give us a straight answer about whether our ideas could be used or not.
We thought of the Doomsday device ourselves, and it's number 7.1 in the list:
http://notepad.niagarafalls.com/random.txt
It would be great if our list was used, especially since we spent so much time rewriting them for the other races, but the powers that be have kepot us in silence.
We'll just have to wait until the game is released to find out what the random events will be.
Anyways, again, welcome to the site, and happy posting.

Matress.....
Great list! I like how some of the randoms have different takes on the problem by different species! I have two questions, though. I know it's probably too late for suggestions, but....
1) Species 8472 - How will they behave? I could see it happening three ways:
- random event that just appears in one or a few unrelated sectors, chases and kills stuff, destroying planets, etc, and either goes away or is killed.
- Invasion I - Appears in one or a few sectors (like the Borg), then spreads out, say adding one ship per turn. You defeat them or the weak will perish!
- Invasion II - Can only happen after a Borg invasion, they attack the Borg first, and one side or the other wins (or they kill each other off - don't get caught in the middle!). Either the Borg continue, or they are destroyed and 8472 continues like in 'Invasion I'.
2) V'Ger - How are you supposed to kill that thing off? In my opinion it is probably the most awesome vessel/entity/device in all of Sci-fi! Quite tough to destroy! (read - almost impossible!)
- What if it just started at one edge of the Galaxy and moved on a trajectory around it, then headed for Earth, and disappears once it is there. Don't get in its way, and you might be okay. If it passes close to a lot of 'stuff', it might take an interest in you. Then pray. This could be done by giving it a huge sensor range (a good 12 sector radius or so), and an 'investigation' (tactical/combat) range. If its course takes it within, say 2-4 sectors from a starbase, V'Ger 'investigates' it, then returns to its original course!
- What if it appeared, wandered around until it found some ship, 'patterns' (destroys) it, then heads straight for that race's homeworld. Once there, it destroys a bunch of stuff (but not everything), then heads to the next closest empire's homeworld, and repeats the process until all capitals have been ravaged. Then it heads out of the Galaxy, or heads back to Earth where it vanishes (after suitably killing stuff there.)
Then again, I'd like to see a tactical combat screen with V'Ger in it, with all 90 Km or so to scale! 8O 8O 8O

Well like I said, me and OmniQ wrote those several months ago, and to be honest, i'm surprised that you haven't heard of them, Jarok!
As for how the randoms were going to work, we had absolutely no idea.
We started off the list by thinking of every single possible random event that could possibly show up in the game. This started off in a forum somewhere, (I'll post some links in a minute) but we then started to meet on MSN to discuss the random events. At one time, there were 8 of us chewing over the randoms on MSN, and that got VERY confusing!
We then continued it by rewriting the randoms we had come up with from the different point of views of the various races.
Since we didn't know what the official random events list is (AND WE STILL DON'T!!! ) we just made them up, and were hoping Gavin would do the rest.
Anyways, if you want to look at how we came up with them in the first place, here's some of the threads:
Random events - 21 pages
http://botfii.armadafleetcommand.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=191&start=0
Finalising the randoms - 2 pages
http://botfii.armadafleetcommand.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=393&start=0
Oh, and the thread about our MSN meetings no longer exists - and i've double-checked on google as well; the links turn up, but they are dead. (Google is wrong?!!! 8O)
...
It amazing some of the stuff I found on the site whilst looking for those threads. Some of the original ideas for the game...some of my early posts...
And as for your ideas...we need some more emoticons on the site - how am I supposed to express myself as drooling?!

Yeah, lordenforcer, the Doomsday device is in BOTF - but it's pretty much the rarest random event in the game.
It's NEVER happened to me once in the 6 or 7 years that i've played BOTF, but I know it's in there coz i've seen Doomsday device in the graphics files of the game.
...
Alas, poor Scotty, we knew ye well...
