Heh...I had to play the images side-by-side to see the difference...I was looking to see which of the uncoloured bit had been coloured in... :oops:

You added windows and made the ship a <bit> longer.. Nice. 8)

Can i see a wireframe frame view please to check the geometry and how u built it, i know its weird ask but many modelers like looking at wireframes. It helps us to understand which way peopl go with thier models.

It took me a while to realise what you meant by "Buggy"... :oops: :lol:

It certainly looks more evil than the old one. I'll post an update in my shiplist thread, and i'll post a new picture when this one is more complete.

I've also posted your Serpent class ship in the shiplist thread if you hadn't noticed, Zahadoom. :wink:

I havent taken a look at that thread yet but i am assuming that my ship will be the first available in the game (tech 0) That was what it was designed to look like (to look more primative)

this station is absolutely massive.......In the center there will be a set of space doors wide enough to accomodate their largest ship the doors will be 1000 m wide... to give you an idea....Their spacedock is even bigger

10km? thats enormous. you could fit like 13 Sovereigns end to end along it

thats the idea, dom ships are very big, and they need room for the hords of jem hadar

sorry i didint see that i meant 1000 m but its still huge. and you have to remeber that ships are getting bigger all the time

Isn't DS9 1400m? :?

So 1km sounds rather small to be honest...remember when Dominion ships were docked with the station? They were almost as big as it!

I've done some checking, and Ex-Astris-Scientia has come up with the Dominion Battleship as being 1.5km - so their biggest ship would be bigger than DS9 - the Dominion station would then have to be considerably bigger than this to even be able to accommodate two of their ships, let alone an entire fleet!

Yeah, DS9 is 1,451.82 m in diameter according to DS9 TM and that seems realistic. Jem'Hadar battlecruiser was frequently seen docked with the DS9. According to shots of JH battleship that vessel has to be at least 1500 m long if
you take Defiant's lenght of 120m. But still the main strenght of Dominion fleet was attack ship in huge numbers.:)
As for the stations for the Dominion, have you thought of Car-Dom Repair facility?( seen in 'tackin into the wind' and 'WYLB') I don't know it's exact size, but I would estimate that it's at least 1127 m in diameter if you compare it with JH attack ship's lenght of 68.32 m from DS9TM. But many spec. effects say that attack ship is around 100m so that gives this station a diameter of over 1600m.

ok i just did a measurement ck and the official diameter of the station that i drew is about 47km with the hatch being about 3000 m wide

Jig replied to my PM. Apparently his engine will be able to cope with a 47km station, so go for it! :mrgreen:

Did you make the station bigger during the last update, Zahadoom? The pylons look like they are longer than in the first pic. You did it to fit more ships in I suppose? :twisted:

no its not bigger i just filled in the pylons to make it more pleasing to the eye, and i dont think size was ever in the equation matress just the # of polygons (could be wrong though) but i remember jig saying somewhere that it didint matter how big or small an object was, he could scale it later.
Since your in comunication with jig, mention to him that my scout ship is complete and ready to leave drydock:)

ok, ive been toying with this model for the last week and i think im finally happy with it... the question is if its good for everyone. I just slaped the texture on quickly so that the surface will be visible to everyone. Thats why it looks a little stretched out... ill fix that later.....comments pls all. And pls give me some suggestions as to what is wrong with it if there is, or any changes you would like to see. one thing that bugs me and id like to hear something on this from some of the other modelers......is that some of the ships from the same races have diff base textures. For example ive done some dow ships and so has jig.... and they all look completly diff...just thought id raise that question

To avoid stretching of textures like that what you need to do is either uv map them, or, to make them like in the pic below with the focus being using cubic projection...

1. choose texture part
2. click T on color
3. change projection to cubic which will map most things nicely, if you cant do uv maps yet.
4. adjust ho big or small you want the texture to look on partt/object.

edit - oops didnt read ur post fully, u didnt care if it was applied right hehe, ah well nvm.

About the model. Add on hundreads of lights using textures like i did with klingon base. Do one nice one and just duplicate (copy and paste) the hell out of it all over the station but make it nice and level with each other window. Get some grid mesh texture somewhere too. For power source use pink energy glow like u see on their ships. Somewhere about.. Very bottom of the mid section that little section if you know where i mean. So do that pink with luminacy and glow added. Then do o thin mesh around the pink so looks cool. Texture some docking areas on the arms and do a some paneling bevels as textures over the hull to give it a good solid built feeling. Then it will look uber cool. :)

About variance between dom ships. Well that cant be helped due to diff ppl using there own ways. To be honest i think as a fan game not many ppl will care as long as theres variety to ships. Ok so one will look diff to another texture wise but meh i wont care id just love blowing them up hehe. Besides its free, you get what you pay for. :p

I think it looks great, Zahadoom!

Just one question though, where are the doors to let ships in/out of the station? If you forgot to include them, prehaps you could put them inside the three "prongs" that stick out of the station?

I've added in the picture that looks at the station from below into my shiplist thread. I think that picture looks the most cinematic and really shows off the station.

I hope you don't mind, Zahadoom, but I decided i'd have a look at what the station could look like with Skeeters changes. As you can see, my paint skills leave a lot to be desired, but if you could make the changes Skeeter suggested, then i'm certain the station will be one of the best structures in the game. :wink:

The places where i've put the windows are just examples, and there should really be windows in many more parts of the station, but you get idea. :wink:

The "holes" are where I left out some windows to make it look more realisitic.

Yes i was actually thinking that way before skeeter suggested it, and they look nice but i think ill make fewer of them, to anser your question about where the ships will enter here it is....

as ive said before those doors are huge maybe al much as 6000 m......as you can see the ship enters and then passes through that huge strut and will dock in the center of the station.

Although im going to have to to some more lightwave research before i know enough about uv mapping to do this kind of texture.
