Wolfe, i've just noticed that if I put the mouse over the taskbar ms-dos box while running the demo, the game starts glitching and framerate drops to only 6 or 7. It goes back to normal after about 10 seconds or as soon as I take the mouse away. I've tried reloading the demo a few times but it happens every time I do it. Dunno if that's a glitch or something... :?

Not fully understanding completely how it works, but if you remove the window from the 'scope' of being displayed it goes all hairy, theres an answer to it probably just telling the engine to continue as normal but i haven't looked into it yet.

Regards Wolfe

Wolfe's link was working, it was just Strings' download that was broke. Part of the url was missing for some reason. :?

Anyways, i've fixed it now.

it's the new forums. you need to add forums/ after http://www.botfii.armadafleetcommand.com/ in every old link cause that part has been added in the forums' software.

for strings test demo you need .NET 3.5 and XNA 1.0 (google or links in another thread, don't find it atm.).

If you can play Supremacy, Trashman, then you can play Strings Demo. They BOTH require .Net 3.5. Check my original post again, i've put the download links that you need in there.

Strings or Wolfe, if you need textures for special effects (beams and torpedos) you can find pretty much everything here:
http://rwt.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/

Grab the latest Direct3D redistributable and see if that helps. Worked for me.

...Or it could be that I've added links to the wrong version of .xna or something. Could someone that knows what is needed check that my links actually go to the required versions?

Err, nothing spectacular. Started a new job and applying for vasrious other things so time has been short.
Whats new is just related to selection and movement which needs kinks knocked out of it.

Update - http://www.botf2.com/Shared%20Documents ... Update.rar

Click and drag box selection added
Multiple unit selection added
3D movement added, similar to homeworld

Simply drag and select units, press Z to get movement line, and if you want hold down shift and move mouse up/down to set height. Click and don't forget to use +/- to set ship velocities ;)

Seems to be some horrendous performance issue with the 2d lines which i haven't had time to figure out, hopefully not to much of an issue but don't know who poor MOE will cope :D

Regards Wolfe

looks a lot more complex ;).

got those weird "over-the-top-firings" again. Plus, is there a way to smoothly select other ships without the currently selected ship automatically moving the left-clicked new ship direction?

The demo just doesn't like you Malv ROFL, why it does that i don't know what is your graphics card?

Hmm i'd thought i'd cleared up the select new ship and other moves problem, i'll have a look.

Regards Wolfe

Your apparent happiness in that quote is wrecked coz I managed to get the thing to work - and with framerates around the 25-28fps mark i'll have you know.

...But I did have problems. :(

The ships still go mad while turning, i'm encountering the wierd block problem that Mal is having, (Only while I've selected a ship though, it disappears the moment I deselect the ship) the second Nebula STILL doesn't move, and I also found that I CANNOT move the camera anymore. Have you changed the controls or something, Wolfe?

I made a video so you can have a look at the performance on my computer. The framerate shows as being way lower than what I said because my computer doesn't like recording stuff.

they aren't that ancient (a voodoo 3dfx card is ancient ;)). I hope the engine will have adaptable quality settings so speed can be increased at the cost of it.
