i did some reading and it seems that cad can export as a 3d studio file, so if anyone knows which ships have not been started then i can try my hand at one:) as for texturing well i've aquired photoshop but ive never textured before so that part might take a while, once i have a ship assigned to me the ill try to have it done in a couple days.....

yeah, im got to do something for my 3D design class, so if you need something simple that you need done, im here. Also, it may take one or two weeks, so if you've got time, thats good too. Also, i cant color or texture yet. Im just a beginner, but im glad to help if you need it.

Post subject:  Re: ships

@zahadoom, the .3ds format is the most common foramt so i see no prbs with exporting to 3ds from cad, if it won`t work i have polytrans so i can convert form cad to anything
@nemitor, choose any minor race ship from here bar the vulcans and the tamarians (i`ve done those)

That link works this time zahadoom! Good work!

Your links aren't working coz the site only supports certain file types - .bmp's don't work, I know this from experience.

You'll just have to make links instead - do the same thing as you were doing to load the picture, but click on the url button instead of the img button.

Post subject:  Re: ships

Looks like ur using somit like splines there, the poly count will be huge i think. Is there anyway you can tell what the poly count is there as there are limits to what is acceptable.

Btw nice ship so far. :)

Post subject:  Re: ships

see in cad its all object.....it different from other software. i guess the only way to tell will be when im done. Ill give the structure to jig and he will be able to tell when he imports it. Id actually like to send him what i have tomorow to see if its within the allowable limits. No, no splines see all the parts to the ship are first drawn in 2 d then extruded. then i use the fillet command for the rounded corners.

A couple more touch ups and ill hand it in for texturing as i do not have the software to do so.

Post subject:  Re: ships

compared to yours, mine looks like crap. Ive got to learn more fast. I've only got the main frame done right now. All extensively modified primitives. Got the simplist, straight lined ship I could find, a Tholain Crusier.
