Just took a look at the database (a bit late I know) and I can honestly say-> Great Work iwulff
some questions though. Why didn't you optimize it for 1024x768 when most people have that res?
Also, do you still need beeps and thing...I got about 1.5 MB (zipped) of beeps and voices, most of them without background noise.
And might I offer a suggestion? Put it the race's symbol in their description (for the feds, klingons, roms, cards and dom)

I am thinking of something better, but you all will see it when that part is finished. Mail the sounds to iwulff_botf2@yahoo.com, and about the resolution, i will optimize certain areas, so that it will look good/normal on a 1024/768 resolution. Anyway thanks for the suggestions and the sounds.

okeey i updatet some parts of the database. I made some kind of fade-in fade-out slideshow for the races. I made some sounds to the home file, made a new maps section layout. I know i didn't worked that much on this database lately. But i will change that, as you can see soon enough. I am also working on a technology layout. Will give you a updated exe file soon enough, probally next week.

Hey there iwulff, i'm not sure if I told you this on MSN, but the map section looks really cool now!
One thing though, the old problem with the pictures staying on screen when you click a different section is back!
It is happening with all five of the races as well. When I click the races, then choose a different screen, the pictures stay up, (But stop changing) and the new screen appears behind the pics.
It has happened every time I have loaded the database up. I've tried changing the options, and tried restarting my computer, but it has no effect.
Sorry about this bad news, but it seems there is a gremlin on the loose in the database.

hmmm... can you send me the index.swf file to iwulff_botf2@yahoo.com. I think there is the problem of this.. Some unloadmovie [4]...

The deed is done.
If this file controls the database, that is likely where the fault is. Remember you sent up that update to the Cardassians?

Well there is another file, which is probally the cause. The exe file the engine behind the story. It takes care that you can see the stuff in flash. Anyway in this file is also the index.fla, but you have the old version of the .exe file, where still the unloadmovies of layer 4 aren't in. Anyway sorry, should i wait in sending you a update of the database installer? I am having a rather irritating bug with something else. Whenever you click fast aftereachtother on the fed, kl, etc./. buttons, then it kinda locks the process.... Still have to find a way around it, or just somekind of timer that you can't click anything else for the next 3 seconds or something.. Kinda weird..... that this error takes place.

I'll send you any of the files you want to check, or I can just wait until you do another installer program - I don't mind either way, iwulff.
I haven't had any other problems with it, anyway. I sort of agree with nana though, but if it does perform slowly, it is usually the races' screen that has this problem. The problem will only get worse as races are added unless it can be solved.
If we are already having these sorts of problems, it might be an idea to delay releasing any updates on the site, until they can be solved. We'll end up with a thread with people reporting the same problems hundreds of times otherwise.
I'm not trying to be cruel to anyone by requesting this, I just think it will mean less headaches for you iwulff.

I need to know what part is slow? I think you don't mean a bug namely. The startup of the races section is perhaps to slow, i dunno... or do you think that the slideshow should move faster?
I'm currently reading a book of Flash MX with over 1000 pages. Well i know quit al lot already, but there is also some stuff i need to know about actionscripts.

What do you think about this guys? i know i already posted it as a question to Nana, but now also to you: Quote: I need to know what part is slow? I think you don't mean a bug namely. The startup of the races section is perhaps to slow, i dunno... or do you think that the slideshow should move faster?
I will change something in the slideshow. I will let the logo longer on the screen, something like 3(4) seconds, i first want to try this, but anyway i will post you the results.

Where do I get this updated databasae? You do not mean the one in the downloads section, do you? As that one is quite some time old...

Iwulff sent it to us over MSN Centurion. We were in the right place at the right time, that's all. We're testing it out for him. (Hey, we were the ones that told iwulff he should carrying on building it!)
Ask iwulff if you want, and hope he in't too busy. I could send you my version, but like I posted earlier, there is a mistake with the files, so I doubt you'd want that.
The update adds some sound effects, some changing pics for the different races, and a new map screen. Don't worry, one way or another, you will see what I mean eventually.
...
Iwulff, I did mean the startup for the races section. I'm not sure how it is on other people's computers, but when the screen first appears, it is quite fast, but it slows down. Then, once the outside 'box' has fully appeared, it speeds back up again. It's possible that all you need do, is just tweak how this box moves in the slideshow. Perhaps if it moved in from the bottom instead of the right, it would move faster?
The maps section is the fastest' working slide out of them all, and that simply appears. If the worst comes to the worst, you could simply set the races section to do the same. It would lose some of the effect, but it would work better.
Anyway, concentrate on the fault that you found yesterday. It's best to sort out existing problems, before fixing cosmetics after all.

Okeey that has to do with the motiontween and the ease it moves in. It slows down when it is nearly at it's final destiny. I did this on purpose but perhaps it needs changing... I could also send in the rest faster after the outside box, when neccesairly. So things will move faster. But first i will continue to remove the bug of the slideshows...

Quote: I need to know what part is slow? I think you don't mean a bug namely. The startup of the races section is perhaps to slow, i dunno... or do you think that the slideshow should move faster? OKey, the whole thing is a bit slow in presentation. Matress said Quote: if it does perform slowly, it is usually the races' screen that has this problem. The problem will only get worse as races are added unless it can be solved
I don't think that's it. It's probably set to go at that speed (right iwulff?speed is changable) The whole idea is to mimic a star fleet system and that's fast as hell. So everything should slide in way faster and those things which just appear should do so immediately, without a delay. Now, you may think it's gonna lose on the effect but I don't agree. I believe that a nice, smooth and fast database would be more in keeping with the true LCARS.

Okay, so the entire thing could be a tad faster, but I always thought the speed problem was just my computer! I am used to things being slow after all!
The races' slide is the slide that performs the slowest, that is why I singled it out. I'm not saying the entire database should be tweaked, but nana is right - LCARS would be fast (Although it is the database of the entire Federation - sorta like the internet today; the repository of Human/Federation knowledge - so would it really be that fast?)
Anyway, first things first. Sort out bugs and glitches, then update it as needed. Cosmetic things like the speed shouldn't be sorted out until the database is done, else we won't know what the problems with speed will truly be.
I just want what is best for the database, that's all. (Coz I want it and BOTF2 so much!)

much better now.
think it's time to fill it up with content? course, it's a lot of work so if you need some help writing things just say (although I'm a bit short on time these days)
speed and smoothnes also works quite well. Maybe we'll see if more modifications are needed when everything is there, but loking pretty good now.

Still have to create a timeline, that one is "easy" to fill with content, same goes with species.. But ... now it comes... the map will prove to be extremely challenging to work the way i want it...
But really will work on a timeline concept, and you will see it when it's finished. I will make a paus for the next fews days on the map section, need some time gone from that one...

Cool. Can't wait til it's done.
I went on the database website earlier to see if it was still up, iwulff. The maps section still doesn't load on there, so it must be a mistake with the website. Anyway, could you send me the new version when you're done?
I'll still perform my non-electronic duties for you, if you want.

Yeah, I had ANOTHER problem with my computer - my area had to be deleted, and it's taken me a while to find out what I have and haven't lost.
Anyway, i'm on MSN at the moment...not much use though, since you're not there!
I'll try and keep MSN open tonight, so check when you notice this post. Otherwise, send it to my email addy - that's always open.

Rather nice, isn't it? And don't worry if you forget the 'new' bit - that email addy is mine as well! I keep that one for spam.

Well i haven't done much with the database the past few days. But i have now created a slidebar for certain text pieces on the site, and have begun work on the history/timeline section. I will give you guys a update when i finished the main part of the history section.
