Just for fun, name your ideal, perfect crew and give reasons. The only stipulation is that a crew member can only have one role.
My crew would be on a Defiant class ship and be as follows;
Captain- James T Kirk. (I so wanted to say Picard as he's by far my favourite captain, but with throwing away a chance to destroy the Borg amongst other incidents I believe his judgment is clouded by his morals. Kirk is a stronger man and leader. I also wanted to say Sisko but he's needed elsewhere...)
First Officer- Jean Luc Picard. (The moral concience of the Captain. He'd be able to offer an ethical insight into a situation, and present a balanced set of options to the captain)
Tactical- Worf. (Is an explanation really necessary?)
Science Officer- Data. (Again, nuff said)
Helmsman- Benjamin Sisko. (Ever seen 'Shattered Mirror'? Sisko OWNS the helm)
Chief Engineer- Scotty. (I wouldn't feel safe without a big fat Scottish bastard holding the ship together)
Chief Medical Officer- Bashir. (The EMH is a better surgeon, but is just plain annoying. Also, Bashir's not afraid to pick up a phaser and he can work **** out in his head too)
Counseller- Guinan!
Intelligence/Strategic Operations- Garak
Chef- That big fat Klingon chef in DS9

My crew will defeat all oponents! 8O
capitain - Quark (or maybe Holographic Tactical Mode - doctor from 'Voyager')
first officer - Rom
tactical - Alexander, Son of Worf
science - Ezri Dax
engineer - Nog
medical - Tom Paris
intelligence - Neelix
chef - Benjamin Sisko
and one more special crewmen - financial officer - Ishka , mother of Quark
Of course all of them have to get at least Sovereign or borg Cube.

The title read "finest crew" not "most retarded crew"!

ok so now seriously:
capitain - Archer (he will know when to pull the trigger)
first - Riker (loyal but he know when to interfere)
tactical - Worf of course
science - Data is just the best
engineer - Chief O'Brian (he know everything about technology)
medical - Doctor from "Voyager" (hologram, but amazingly skilled)
intelligence - Odo (Tal Shiar has no chances...)
chef - again Sisko (he know how to prepare my favourite suflet)
And which ship? I think Defiant is too small for all of this people, but Sovereign will do.

Commander- Sisko, "He' gonna need a bigger boat!"
No.1-T'Pol, need some fun on the bridge!
Tactical- Tuvok, the man (Vulcan) did wonders with an Intrepid, what WOULD he do with a Sovereign
Science-Jadzia, one reason "What is it,old man!" "It's a rock. With some writing on it."
Ops- DATA, fleet captain Data. So he can ignore orders if they're stupid
Engineer-Trip or LaForge. I don't know why Trip, LaForge would work well if they took of the metal thing in front of his eyes.
CMO-the EMH, so he can be muted at will, and then won't debate over the moral finesses of killing Tuvix and victims alike.
Counselor-an 8-year-old Kes, SO SHE'LL DIE! AND I THEY CAN'T RETURN TO STARBASE DUE TO THEIR MISSION! MUHAHAHAHA!
Intel-Garak, come on!
Helm. The Prometheus computer. Did you see the manuevars in Message in a bottle? Never saw Geordi, Tom or Nog to THAT

The Defiant usually carries a few of 50. I'm sure your 8 people without too much fuss!
Seriosly tho, good crew.

Also a good crew. Although my Defiant with Sisko on the helm still kicks ass.

Ok,
Sisko for capt
i'd like Sulu for 1st officer (it would be funny to see them arguing together, both of them with their deep voices)
For science i'd go with T'Pol (need a little eye candy )
For tactical i'd like tuvok, even blinded in that one episode of voyager (Year of Hell) he still did good
For my helm, i'd like data. I dont care if he might be better suited for science/ops, think how good of a helmsman he would make
Engineering, i dont kow, its a toss up between scotty and obrien.
For medical i'd go with the EMH mark two, but then Andy Dick would probably get annoying, and i'd have to delete him
Quark would run Ten-Forward, or whatever its equivalent would be
We can have riker running the ship's galley, he always seemed like a pretty good chef. I'm sure he wouldnt mind the demotion.
And ofcourse this crew would expect notihing less than a Promethius class starship.

Everything is pretty good, except I'd put Riker into waste-extraction, so he can be on his own turf!

My ship would be an Akira (Pure eye candy, although i'd prefer a Sovereign in battle)
As Captain, i'd have Janeway. She knows rules don't mean a thing when you're out there all alone, and if it all goes wrong, she doesn't resort to diplomacy!
As first officer, i'd have Riker. He's loyal, and knows his Captain so well, you'd think he could read minds or something...
As Chief Engineer, i'd have Torres. Why? You ask. Well, Picard and Sisko have a Klingon pointing the weapons. Janeway has one fixing the ship! If a Klingon can do all that, then they must be good to have around!
As Chief Medical Officer, i'd have either Crusher, or the EMH. Crusher knows compassion as a doctor, and can get the Captain to her line of thinking. (I'm not actually suggesting anything with Janeway though, I meant it with Picard):lol: The EMH does his job, then asks if it was enough, and if the Captain gets tired, she can turn him off. An amalgam of the two would be perfect!
Paris would be the nurse, since it is soo obviously his calling!
Tactical is obviously Worf.
Helm would be the Prometheus computer, just like CVN said. Very cool moves.
Science officer would be Jadzia. A woman who has the combined knowledge of god-knows-how-many-people is surely an asset.
Transporters would O'Brien - This is what he started off as, and he can be a backup Chief engineer if anything happens to Torres. My ship needs a bit of Irish in the mix.

Captian - Jean-Luc Picard.
C'mon! The guy's awesome. He is perfectly capable of unleashing some serious sh#t if the situation calls for it, but he is tempered by reason and experience. He would know when to talk and when to lock on the Quantums.
Executive Officer - Data.
A man like Picard relies on accurate, unbiased information to make consistently good decisions. In TNG, he relied on the entire crew, but Data could provide all the information needed AND be unbiased. Two advantages as well. He could easily take over any position that was needed, and he could serve as the repository of grim statistics!
Operations officer - O'Brien.
Who else, really? (at least if you move Data) Miles is a very balanced engineer. He understands and can deal with anything, but also is not exactly enough of a specialist to just look after the engines - he'd also get bored.
Science Officer - Spock.
Two words: pointy ears. 'Nuff said.
Tactical Offider - Riker.
He really is every bit as good as Worf, plus his penchant for using creative new tactics would mean no enemy could likely ever predict him!
Security Chief - Worf.
He'd get some glorious hand to hand combat, (mainly he's here because otherwise he'd have to be CMO ) (otherwise Odo, but a starship might need a more by-the-book character than a station.
Chief Medical Officer - McCoy (with assistance from Nurses Crusher and Bashir).
Given my choices for the rest of his team, he'll really start to miss the Vulcans.
Chief Engineer - Scotty.
Who else could ever replace Scotty? I like LaForge a lot, but just imagine a Scotty-O'Brien combo!
Helmsman - Sisko.*
He does indeed own the helm. He might have issues being under Picard's command, so if he asks for a transfer...
Helmsman (in case Sisko kills something) - Sulu.
Why not?
Additional science specialists (to fill up the science stations at the rear of the bridge) - Jadzia Dax, Janeway. (she has a science background, and she's cool)
Red Shirts - EMH's - They'd drive so many aliens crazy that they might not get around to killing the real red-shirts.
Waste Extraction - Wesley Crusher.
If he whines, see above.
Guy to seduce any females who are too young for Picard - Kirk.
What else would he be good for here? (plus, if you have Spock and McCoy, you just HAVE to have Kirk to fill out the best character triangle ever!)

The obvious reason for that is simply, that each of them always had *one* ship to move, and not three. I'd like to see Data moving a Prometheus-class cruiser in multi-vector attack mode

Nice addition... Yes, after the battle it can be reprogramed to vacume... Warbird dust is hard to clean
And, ftranschel, yes, Data WOULD be the ideal helmsman.
And captain; and tactical officer; and engineer; and wrester; and bartender...
I always really liked Data. My favourite character ever

From this point of view I certainly come to the conclusion that a Danube-class runabout with data on its primary chair (thus *being* all the functions you told) is considered as the most deadly and perfect ship in all times

Captain, i'm detecting a small ship heading towards us at Warp...it's a Danube-class runabout!
Dammit! Data must have put in his emotion chip again. I didn't mean to leave my dog in the same place as his cat! Helmsman, get us out of here, maximum Warp!
Captain, she's powering up weapons...targeting the Warp Core!
Evasive maneouvers, GET US OUT OF HERE!...
<Blood curdling screams, Data singing some opera...>

Just think, if they had deployed Data on DS9, the Founder would be Playdoh and Weyouns would be on No 327...
And, yes. DATA IS FREAKIN' LT. COMMANDER?!?! TROI actualy outranks him!!!! Please...
Lol, you just edited the post, Matress?

If you bother to read, then you'll notice that there isn't any 'edited' messages under my posts in this thread - and you'd better see a doctor about those happy pills - it sounds like you have a bit of an addiction there...

Captain- Sulu, the badass captain that never got a real chance
1st officer- Colonel Kira, not strictly starfleet but her and sulu in command would be unstoppable
science-Spock
Helm-Paris
chief engineer- scotty
transport chief- o'brien
Chief medical officer- McCoy, greatest trek doctor
tactical- Chekov
security- Reed
ops- Data
red shirts- travis mayweather, besides his obviously silly name the guy never got any lines/stories, i reckon he should be the only red shirt, and should die every week just like kenny
consillor- dax, jadzia that is, shed make a great one
waste extraction- berman and braga, and the series would have several episodes of them knee deep in it
