I just thought of this as I was playing BOTF.
Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I made a game board on a white board. I set up the grids then use it to map out where I am, the planets names and which as what. I find it helps me when I play and helps in keeping up with my building levels. Perhaps A printable version of the main game board could be done for this same reasoning? With the way it is being set up that would be nice. At least we could map out where our star bases and things are. if not thats okay as I'll make my own anyways.

im just too busy imagining your computer room being like a war room with map and plots and big galaxy sillouttes on it suggesting the federation fleet is moving towards
and of course a map board with lots of people pushing forces into place with sticks
oh and telephones going off in the background
and .... you get where im going

Mark.
Thanks! LOL. your close thats for sure. Actually I have my maps pinned up on a wall, using water markers to infact plot movment (within two grid squares) of any scout ship only. I try to keep it real. lol Yea I'm a PATTON Fan. WWII junkie and ex Army National guard then Air force. Kind in my blood. lol
All I can say is give it a try! Actually it is a fun way of viewing the game as a whole.
now a true "Hard Case" is a friend of mine. Yes he actually has a hard map layout in his "TREK" game room. on a 4 X 12 plywood board. He even went so far as to make his own ships like carved them and they sit on stands, and yes he moves them about with a stick. lol HE keeps his room locked up when hes at work. His wife is not even allowed in there unless they are in game play.
I informed him about this site and the new game coming, but he refuses to come here. lol Each to thier own I guess! Having a bad memory I use mine to help me know whats going on in my area of the game.
Once I finish a game, my board is wiped clean, and then I start another one!
I will take a pic of it and post it. lol you all may get a kick out if it!

I don't get quite that into it but I used to draw up the entire field on graph paper with everything on the map labled. I'd do this when I had a really good game going. It was especially important when I was first playing the game. Now I have no need to.
Speaking of which ... just a few weeks ago I was cleaning out some old files and threw away the old maps that I had done. It was fun to remember some of my more memorable campaigns.

NorthTexan,
wow! lol never thought of that. I know I tossed out a notebook full of game movements that I would write down as I played. lol. I read through it before I tossed it in the trash. I saw so many mistakes I made during game play! lol I caould tell by the cussing I would write due to a poor use of judgement on my part. Or My amasment at how quickly the other races had in building thier ships/planets ect.... Now I use a white board. Once I got used to using it. I just enjoy having it around! lol.

I've never even thought of using boards and things to check on my fleets and stuff.
I used to just check every system every turn to make sure they were all building exactly what I want. (I'm soo glad that one of the mods for BOTF notify you when a system isn't producing anything!)
I used to only use Scouts to explore the galaxy, and i'd only use one group of them, so I wouldn't need to worry where my fleets were. I'd simply build up a massive fleet in my homesystem, and keep it in training until my Scouts found an enemy system.
I'd then send all my Troop Transports to the nearest unclaimed sector to the enemy system, and build an outpost.
I simply performed my own version of a Blitzkrieg from there on...

I kinda work like that. I noticed that the other races also work in that manner so I follow in that direction. personal preference I rush a planet with 18 to 27 distroyers and 27 to 36 battle crusiers and 18 troop transports, I hit them on the onslaught with mostly distroyers then on next turn hammer em with everything including transports. A quick takeover !

i used to use a calculator and a s hips stats guid to work out battle sequnces, worked fairlywell, but fell apart in later games as experiance went up.
but a strategy guide is the best friend of a botfer.
i cant see how u are using this board, why not just increase the map size so it shows everything.
one thing this new game could definatly use is a tagging system, sorta like postits that alows one to write messgaes on the map that pop up when u scroll acorss a sector. So things you see can be written down for future referance.

How do you increase the map size? I have looked for something like that but never found anything.

Well you could try clickin on the zoom button...()
Unless you meant how do you physically increase the map size...in which case that's half the point of BOTF2.

Mark a system on the galactic map, so that the coloured frame is around. it the "i"-key. If it doesn't zoom out I'm all over confused.

You press I to zoom in, O to zoom out.
Pure laziness really, seeing as there are buttons you can press to do this onscreen anyway...
