So, in what ways do you like to toy with the enemy in BOTF1? How do you keep the computer (or human opponent if you are fortuante enough to have gotten BOTF1 to work on SP2)?

I think since I started this topic, I will let others lead things off and toss my own ideas in once things get rolling.

lol cute kid.... but a Teletubbie?? Please!!!!

I like to park a few scouts between systems then set them to steal. Also I send in distroyers to systems let em sit for a turn or two unclaoked of course then rush em out 1 grid square at a time hopefully they follow and end up right in the middle of my main force. hehehe :P

Anyone else have any more ways of toying with an apponent?

I am fond of sending a large force of Command Cruiser IIs, Defiants, and Galaxy Xs into an enemies territory into the middle of an enemies territory and do absolutetly nothing until after they have begged for treaties for a few times, then I decide whether I would rather hunt down and destroy all enemy ships and leave their systmes alone, accept a treaty and get more creds, or simply conquer them and stop the annoying squeeks that are their demands and treaty plees.

I did something like this whith the Klingons before and didn't accept their treaty that they offered until they offered over 3000 creds to go along with it. I accepted until a few turns later I recieved a war pact treaty from the Federations to attack the Klingons. And then I tore the Klingons apart!!

i enjoy toying with other empires diplomatically, i find the cardassians are particularly good for this.

i once extracted 500,000 credits from the ferengi just to declare war on the klingons, because my military strength would swing the balance either way the klingons were eager to sue for peace too. The ferengi subsequently went on the offensive and offered me an affialiation treaty to boot, which i accepted. I built starbases between the ferengi/klingon battlegrounds and placed a large portion of my fleet there (about 36 destroyer II`s, 45 War ship III`s, 27 Battleship III`s (Bmod game). Starting hitting ferengi with intel, this raised klingon opinion, ferengi declared war, klingons offered affialiation. Brought reinforcements through handy dandy wormhole from the romulan border, Wiped out ferengi who were mostly in Klingon space, mopped up, then attacked severly weakened klingon empire. This constant chain of victories even raised the morale of the conquered worlds to loyal!!!.. Needless to say romulans went down very very quickly afterwords, galaxy was turned a nice shade of purple :D

another favourite is just putting massive fleet on an enemies border, you can get some seriously good multiplayer laughs

"i dont like those ships on my border"
"im just putting them where i can keep an eye on them"
"but there in striking distance, you said we were friends"
"we ARE friends, there just training there"
"but bajor doesnt have a ship academy"
"....... erm"

this sort of general behaviour, using intel to weaken any united front is just so evil

That does seem like it would be fun.. But actually leaving your ships inside of their territory would be even funner like I would do (if I don't like the other player of course)

ahh ships inside another human players borders is a bit sledgehammerish to me, i prefer the subtle yet threatning approach with my toying. Leaving them even 1 sector into their space is red alert, all that serves to do is have him pull lots and lots of ships to meet me, and probably get his intel targeting me too. I like the indecision created "ooh should i build more ships? he sure has a lot. maybe i can get away with continuing research. there is a awful lot of ships there though. Wonder is he has any TT`s waiting?

oh btw my preference of subtle threats in this instance is not an indication of any romulan preferance in my play or in my mind, they smell

i like to move in and take out an enemy home system, then mess about occcasionally taking other systems whilst they recollanise their home system.

then knock it out again, this really damages their moral.

I'm a bit like you xir_ - I take out their home system, then completely surround it with outposts or even starbases if they are really advanced.

I love watching them squirm as they try to take back their Homesystem - and if they were to manage to take out my Bases...well, let's just say my fleet hasn't yet found a match for it's power...

One of my friends conquerd all but 1 klingon colony that had no dilithium and then just left if there... They couldn't fight or even leave their little dust ball barren planets. They were pretty upset.

whenever i find a homeworld alone in a corner i declare war on the race, wipe out their fleet and obliterate their colony worlds. Then while my fleet sits in all the sectors 1 away from their homeworld, i bribe all their minors to leave them and then join me. After that i build up a line of starbases around their (one last) world, and leave them be while i go take out the other races.

A bonus is when they cant rebuild that fast, when they can i send a fleet to attack the world, and when it gets down to 10 - 20 in pop i call off my fleet and wait untill it climbs back up and voila, i repeat over and over :P

That goes beyond the point of simply toying with your enemies... That is just down right cruel.

Heh, Just started a new game.
Right now i control about 1/3 of the galaxy.
Fortunately i have more ships then all the other 4 races combined.
I control the left side of the map, with the cardassians to my north east border, the ferengi to my east, and the klingons to my far south east.
The federation is to my far northeast, on the other side of the cardie's and ferengi.
What im doing to toy with them right now is i set up the non agro treaties in stagering formation, and always set them up for 25 or 50 turns.
Right now, when one expires i refuse to accept a new treaty, as i usualy have at least 10 to 15 turns before another one expires.
Goes something like this. Cardie treaty expires, romulan warbirds cross the border and take out a few cardie ships and outposts. Few turns of that and i move those ships south to the ferengi border and *grin* get a non agro from the cardies for a good 25 or 50 turns. Not that they can do anything at this point.
Ferengi treaty runs out, BAM, nail a few ferengi outposts and fleets over a few turns. Move the fleet south again to the klingon border, again get a non agro from the ferengi.
Usualy at this point the feds are knocking on the cardie's and ferengi back doors which helps enforce the treaties.
Same tactics with the klingons, then my fleets travel up to the cardie border.
Ive been doing this same tactic for over 500 turns in game and so far i only lost 1 scout that blundered into the wrong spot at the wrong time.
(sent it on a long trip and forgot to check on it, darned black hole).

I got 2 fleets of 9 warbirds each, all at max in training (entirely from battles), and 2 other fleets of 9 warbirds sitting at the homeworld not yet needed. I got 18 or 19 planets, mostly all near fully developed, and my tecks are all at 9 and 10, and i think one is at 11.
Im just about at the point where i will transfer all my research totaly into intel, and do attacks to take out one race at a time, planet by planet.
Considering the cardies only have i think 3 planets left, they probaly will go first, klingons may be second, but the ferengi are far closer.
