Exacaly as the title of the post says, is there any point in researching beyond level 10?

I once (playing the federation) researched some levels up to 20 or so and didnt see any changes from 10 to 20.
Is there any point to the extra research?

if it gradually increased the amount of your capabilites, there would be... But if there isn't then not at all.

The handleable techtree will be extended to level 12 (Ãœber-Ships and Prometheus), if I'm not mistaken, after that each tech gives you a minimal bonus. (In botf I it was 2% food/energy/ressources for each level...)

Exactly, after tech 10, I just focussed my research (If any) on food, energy, and construction. Eventually, all those 2% bonuses add up.

Incidentally, you got those bonuses for EVERY tech, not just the future techs. Then there are the morale bonuses as well.

If you research far enough, you could have everything running off one food production structure, and one energy plant. Of course, this would depend on the size of the system, but with enough tech, it is possible. You could then let the population really focus on production or intel.

I hope such bonuses will be in BOTF2. I know the tech tree will take a lot longer to climb through, particularly since there are an additional 2 levels, it would further add to the benefits of research.

What I've missed all the years in propulsion future tech was the eventual extension of range. Maybe something like that could be implemented really - having a value in future tech?

I don't think Future Propulsion tech extends your range. I've tested it, and I saw no increases. :(

I suppose that having better tech could increase the efficiency of the engines of your ship. That would increase their range. You'll need to mention it to Gavin//Dafedz though, see what they say.
