I'm not sure if this is a bit too much to ask/is a bit arbitrary for the game, but I was wondering if the Green wireframe icons of ships are going to be in BOTF.
I found a website with some cool replacements for such things, although there are only a few of them.
Of course, we would need the owner's permission to use them, unless something similar could be made instead.
Anyways, have a look:
Cool or what? I wouldn't want to make more work for the guys though, which is why I stuck it here in the General Chat section instead.
Anyway, the site for these icons is
http://www.ussconstant.cwc.net/images/
Some of the stuff in the links would make great avatars for people as well.
(This is the site where I got my old avatar from, by the way)
*Edit - the link had a mistake in it. I've corrected it now *

Yeah, I like it!
I think it is no big problem to have the wireframed ship icons in the shiplist hence the fact the models have to be made anyway and thus it's no problem to have one render without textures for the build-list.
Another idea for the shiplist in the tech-area: It would be cool to have a wireframed view on ships not yet buildable, while the "researched" ones are textured. What do you think?

Sounds nice, but (And don't quote me on this) I think I remember Iwulff saying he was gonna make it so you don't know what tech you haven't researched yet.
So if you were on tech level 4, then you wouldn't be able to read the info about tech 5 or the buildings you get from it, coz your Empire doesn't know what this tech is/how to build the structures yet! 8O
Perhaps your idea could be used for ships under research? Although this sounds like it could become complicated...

I said don't quote me on it!
I think this is gonna be in, but I don't know for definite.
Obviously it would be cool, but I might be getting my wires crossed with Zelda...

So they could be in then?
And if they are easy to make, you wouldn't need to worry about asking to use them either...
Oh, and if you click on the link in my last post, the animated ships are in the computers section.
Hell! I'll even give you that link!

They'd look good on the page where you select or view ship descriptions. I can imagine it even now.........

Well, the left column is 160px, and your old avatar was more than twice it! (Well... this defiant one is 200px, but it's yet far better )

My one I made myself. I just found some Romulan logo's, and I inverted the colours. Cool effect, isn't it?
If you hadn't guessed yet, I did CVN's avatar for him as well - the one that was up earlier that is. He found the nice spinning Federation logo a bit later on.
To my knowledge, since you are linking to them, you can't really check how many pixels your avatar is.
That's one of the reasons why it is so easy to end up with giant pictures if you put one in a post.
If you make a picture in Microsoft Paint, you can use the numbers in bottom right to estimate the size of the picture.
If you use a program like irfanview though, it tells you exactly how many pixels the picture is, and you can even resize it perfectly!
That's the program I use, anyway. (Thanks for the millionth time MajorDiarr, it's the best program in the world! Other than BOTF and winzip of course)
http://www.irfanview.com/
Click on the link on the left, then select where you want to download from.
I'd reccommend downloading the plugins as well, it makes life that little bit easier.
Irfanview is great for editing pictures, but I don't make my avatars with it. I use gif movie gear for that.

If you use a "real" browser, just like Mozilla Firefox or Opera (or Konqueror, like I do), you can check an image's size by right-clicking on it and then choosing "properties".
