I've been flamed before for mild criticism of the people who run this site and make the game. I have indeed taken on the words of people who say i may have put things in an agressive manner before. So ill try to be more... diplomatic....

My day starts at 7:15, getting up to go to a boring 9-5 post uni "i dont really wanna use my brain much" kinda office job. Im a guys guy, so i take aprox 5 mins to get dressed, cleaned and generally get ready for work. So i have 15 mins left until the car pool, just about enough time to get sum much needed brekky and..... check this website. Being an ex BOTF addict, (it took many years to overcome my addiction) i check this site all the time for news and posts.

There seems to be plenty of posts.... but sadly.... no news!! I knows its mostly in my head, but id get a sense of progress with this game and community if the news was updated every few days or so, maybe more!! Just with sum inside info on whats been completed, or in the progress of, or so on, the kinda stuff we have to scan the forums to find out.

I understand everyone is very hard pressed for time, but the developers find time to post, so i think there must be a few mins to update the news on the homepage? Maybe a few links to sum new screen shots that kinda thing. The kinda thing so we know theres going to be updates and theres a reason to check the homepage.

So... flame me, agree with me or whatever, but please, someone add some news!!!

James

no flames, i`m sorry if i did rant last time, but you know how easy it is to be cranky and not let it spill over into your posts sometimes.
i will endeavor to fullfill your request as soon as poss.

No worries, after all i was a bit out of order. We all apreciate what you guys are doing, so doing any extras like this would be great!

I was just wondering if anyone else had any ideas about this news thing, something people wanna see when they go onto the main page. I know some sites display funny pics people have sent in with a caption to keep the MOB entertained, like at planethalflife with the source screens using garys tool.

Any ideas??

better put this time carott :)

Yes i would be more than happy if the news section included whats been done and whats left to do. But i personaly would only like screen shots of ships not of the game itself. I love exploring games i play and finding my way around the menus myself but at the same time really want to see the lay out >< the release day is only getting closer i cant wait for this game! im confused with what i want to see and what i dont want to see lol :)

That news section on the main page is a bit off-putting. Unless one searches the forums, you'd think nothing was happening.

But I have to say i'm more interested in seeing the layout and option within the game than the ships themselves.

Maybe a quick checklist on main topics of game left to make/finish, and as they are completed the guys making the game could come and tick it off so we can know how close to release we are getting. Sure that will whet everyone's imagination!

Good Luck,

Peace and Love.

If we're not going to update the news section then we should at least get the forum dearch working.

ye sure, its hard for anyone to know the progress of the game. You have to search threads and forums. Surely someone can simply put some updates about the game and where they are, and an extimated completion date.

I dont know about everyone else but i feel very much in the dark about the progress of the game. Surely if after the game is released and mods and that are made, there needs to be better communication if this community is going to survive. Less hardcore fns will be put off with the time needed to find info and like no one cares.

To make sure this game does well and gets a large community of modders etc, it needs a loyal community. For all the work the developers and designers have done, they owe it to themselves if anything to update news and post screens, videos etc on the main news page.

If it wasnt for the knowledge i have by searching these threads for ages, so i know its such a good game, then i would have given up a long time ago.

Its made too hard to get taken in by this game, we wont ever pull in the numbers in order to do this justice, if news and effort isnt put into the presentation and upkeep of this site. A little effort of accumalating news a few screens shots etc will go along way in keeping people intersted, pulling in new people and getting the magazines interested.

People need to think the people behind the game care if it does well, and care that they want to pull you in. Surely such an epic and adventurous games deserves more news and updates????

It would be good if we can get more of the Trek community aware of it

Carott, I do agree with the sentiment that the news should be a little more up to date. But the developers arent making any profit from the game, so to them, I'm sure gtting a great game going is more inportant then getting the word out. Either way, Gav has given an interview at trek-online.com, and the full version of the game is supposed to be released as the demo/extra disc that comes with PC Gamer. Also many people at the parent site AFC know about the game. Dont worry it already has quite a big fan base just waiting to get their hands on it. And once its released, it will most likely just grow from there.

I was browsing through the startrek.com forums and noticed a thread asking about a BoTF sequel. The people who responded were aware of this project but, looking at the home page, had said that development seemed to have stopped and the whole thing collapsed - I corrected them of course :P

I can understand not going out advertising like a commercial game, but it would be nice to at least see an up-to-date progress statement on the main page so when people do stumble accross it, they don't walk away. And hey, the more players, the more people to play against in multiplayer :D

ye that a good point. It proves alot of peoples worries that the site can be counter productive in spreading the word. The dates for news is very putting off, from a critical gamers perspective i gues they are coming to the site, seeing no news for a month, and gaps of 6 months sometimes and thinking they cant care mucha botu the game or there wud be more info and news.

Of course everyone who looks through these boards know the truth about the devlopers and thier hard work, but critical gamers and surfers looking at the site wont know that. gaining a fanbase is never a bad thing, it think some times and effort should go into something to that effect.

Yeah! :)

That's so kind of you jig. The most important thing in keeping up patience is to recall what you are waiting for from time to time

Hey Jig, who is responsible for posting news on the main page? If you guys need help with posting the news, let me know..

You could forward me when stuff happens and I could make sense of it all and post it on the main page that way people coming across the site aren't put off by the lack of news....
