Don't forget the mods - you still have plenty of time to affect what mods come out once the game is released!

...In fact, everyone does... 8O

too true. im sure there will be mod packages that will change/tweak a whole bunch of things. it will be interesting to see how balanced the game will be stock. i am particularly interested in the 'open space' idea. cant wait.

The whole point of the game is that it is gonna be mod-based.

From a multiplayer point of view, this could become frustrating, because you will need to make sure everyone who is gonna play against you has the same files as you - exactly the same same files.

It won't work otherwise.

From a single player point of view though, you'll end up with a pretty much perfect game. You'll have the game playing exactly as you want, since you'll only have the mods you want in the first place.

The mods can change anything from sound effects, right through to ship models or the display.

And of course, the mods will also allow you to play as other races - even minor races - once they are released.

Speaking of display, I'll buy a pint for whoever replaces the old BoTF 'turn' and 'sumarry' buttons. I know they're hardly a priority for the devs, but they look sp 1994.

Even in single player it could be a problem. With BOTF1 there were times when I wanted to try different mods or go back to the original game which require lots of uninstalling and reinstalling.

Would there be a way to effectively create different BOTF2 profiles? The idea being you can have one install of BOTF2 but install mods in different profiles or subsections of the game. It could work like this ... you launch BOTF 2 and are presented with a menu to select which BOTF2 profile you'd like to play. You could pick the unmoded game, a Borg mod you've installed, a Dominion War mod you've installed, a Tribble Wars mod you've installed, or any other mod you've installed.

So if you like to play the Borg mod on single game and the Dominion War mod when you play multiplayer ... you could do so without having to constantly uninstall and reinstall mods.
