Do tou take pride in your BOTF victorys? Would you like to play the best and maybe even be the best? Well how would you know unless you compare yourself others.

We need a rank system guys, kind of like a league so the players of this game can easily see there rank on the official game site!

We have two potential botf games planed already these are the following:

Klingons - Jade
Federation - Son Of Mogh
Cardassians - Jigglypuff
Romulans - Centurion_VarDin
Dominion - Iwulff

Klingons - <FREE>
Federation - <FREE>
Cardassians - Captain_Billy_Bacon
Romulans - Silvercliff
Dominion - Janusi

Please use the following thread already made to plan your MP games:
http://botfii.armadafleetcommand.com/in ... &&start=45

This is how I think the ranking should work, ill be happy to be the one who would update the ranking system on this page untill i can create a proper database (I may need help if people are offering).

1 Point Is given to a player every time he/she destroys another player.

1 Additional Point Is given to the last standing empire OR joint points (1 each) to an alliance. (If you would like your ally to not claim this point destroy them in the final game stages, you would earn 1 point for destroying another player and 1 point for surviving the game)

For Example......

GAME:
Klingons - Jade
Federation - Son Of Mogh
Cardassians - Jigglypuff
Romulans - Centurion_VarDin
Dominion - Iwulff

I Destory the federation earning myself 1 point.

Jade 1
Son Of Mogh 0
Jigglypuff 0
Centurion_VarDin 0
Iwulff 0

Iwulff then destroys the Romulans.

Jade 1
Iwulff 1
Son Of Mogh 0
Jigglypuff 0
Centurion_VarDin 0

Next a joint alliance kills me off  but its Iwulff who takes the most of my systems doing most of the work. He earns 1 point.

Iwulff 2
Jade 1
Son Of Mogh 0
Jigglypuff 0
Centurion_VarDin 0

The alliance then wins the game Giving both Iwulff and Jiggly a point each.

................................pnts.....Defeats...Victorys.....Ratio......plyd
Iwulff...........................3...........0............2...........+2..........1
Jigglypuff.....................1...........0............0............0...........1
Jade............................1...........1............1............0...........1
Son Of Mogh................0...........1............0...........-1...........1
Centurion_VarDin..........0...........1............0...........-1...........1

This final table shows your points (pnts), Defeats to an empire, Victorys over another empire, your Kill, Death ratio, and how many games played (plyd)

Let me know what you think :) Jade

Never gonna happen I'm afraid.

But yeah, this sounds cool I guess. Not that I wouldn't be bragging about my victory enough anyway.

Excellent worked our, Jade. I think this is a great idea, i remember gavin telling me he was planning somekind of online scoring system. But this sounds really cool. It's looks a bit like other onlinescoring stuff for games.

So i really would like to have something like this in, the idea that you purposed already sounds finished, though. :D

Yeah, I think it's pretty nice. Since gavin has mentioned a lobby-system like armada's maybe there could be a matchmaking-system as well depending on your overall score. That way I would never have to compete with players thousands of points ahead ;-)

This is only my idea, if gavin has pre planned something similar thats great :) but we do need an scoreboard :D

The only thing left to discuse is how to keep track of the points, evidence that you have played an MP game and evidence you have earned the points you have. It would be quite hard to keep track, i would be happy to unless gavin is planning some kind of auto updating scoresheet. I would need screen shots of your points claims and then update the sheet with the new info.

Maybe something could be put into a multiplayer game to make things easier, like a window at the end of a players game with the above sheet attached giving the player the info of his/her game and then all they need to do is send in the screenshot of that view so the table can be updated accordingly. What do you think?

I think if that is possible it would be easier to program that the server submits the game data (and the score table of that specific game) to the scoreboard itself.

The idea sounds good although I think everyone in an alliance should get a point if that alliance destroys another player. If you try to make it so that you also have to have contributed substantially to that victory then you get into a debate about what does and what does not constitute a substantial contribution.

But the idea is excellent although I must confess I am kinda nervous, never played BOTF online so I don't know how my skills compare to the rest.

Well i did it as the player in the alliance who took the most enemy systems gained the point but it is debatable :)

No that's difficult, as it it possible somebody has an uneven number of systems, but both undoubtly kick his ass together, so who wins?

Well i guess the only way out would be to have all members of the alliance claim the point for killing an empire. But only if they contributed, no matter how small the contribution was.

This all could lead into TOURNAMENTS. :D I'll will ask gav when i have the chance (or perhaps he will reply to this thread), about this online scoring list.

Ultimatly we could have tournaments in the future yes :)
There should be leagues having people with many points (top 20) in a tournament then people with lesser points (league 2) 21-40 and league 3 41-60 ect. There could be a big points rewards for winning a tournament so people can move up the league :)

Which still leaves what you count a contribution. Say I defeat the Empire's fleets but I leave my ally to conquer the systems? Or I could only provide resources to my ally so he can maintain a fleet large enough to win, that is a contribution as well and a significant one.

Or I could be holding off another Empire so that my ally can destroy the other one. Without me the victory would have been impossible but I haven't actually fought with the destroyed Empire. Just my thoughts.

You are addressing what i previously didnt think of :)
You are right there are many ways of helping an ally destroy an empire without even using a ship. Thanks for your input, i think your right when you say, all members of an alliance should collect 1 point when that alliance destroys another empire.

Ofcourse everyone in the alliance should get the points. When someone doesn't do anything, he should get kicked out of the alliance. But if you want to give points to someone who doesn't deserves it, then it's your choice.

Though I think there must be restriction of how many people (I'd say a maximum of 3 players against 2) form an alliance. Imagine a game where four people unite against one just to get that point...

I think that should be optional. But if you are guy with a lot of points with 3 others and you go against a small fish, then you shouldn't catch many points. I think that there shouldn't be a solid one point, for destroying an empire, it should be different depending on how your scoring stats are. What do you think?

Also, new people will be downloading this game all the time and joining the ranks, maybe we should scrap the points ranking us and instead be ranked the by ratio of the points. Its just an idea to help the people starting from 0 on the ranking boards when we are all up in the 50 points area. If we display games won, deaths, kills, ratio and games played. Let me know what you think. As im unsure whether i like the idea.

I see what you mean and i love the idea.

3 Points for taking down an empire alone.
2 Points for taking down an empire with 1 ally.
1 Point for taking down an empire with more than 1 ally.
1 For being the last standing empire(s)

But should we use the points or a ratio of the points to rank the players?

Ratio is a good think IMHO.

Additionally I just thought of a per-race ladder like in Warcraft III - we know everyone has his/hers favourite empire, so there should be two systems: First one with a randomly chosen empire for everyone. (If you can win there you are the true master of reBOTF...) and the second one where you only play games with your favourite empire which is to ensure beginners have a chance as they can concentrate on one strategy for one race at first...

Edit: That way we will know who is the best Fed's player, the best Rom's player etc. :)

Hello everybody,
this is my first post, so i don't know if i deserve to go into that discussion.
Nonetheless, I remember some interesting scoring systems, which could even cover such special case as 4 vs 1. Or imagine you really played well almost all the time and then some unfortunate incident (alliance against you, somebody break the alliance and turn against you) and you just loose everything and get no point at all.
Instead, what do you think of a scoring system which give points to key actions taken? Points for good industry, technology level, intelligence a.s.o. and of course for major events like defeating an empire.
What about something like the "quality" of actions also be considered. For example, you fight 10 Romulan Warbird against a Federation vessel. Not very fair, an "easy" fight. So you would gain only few points. But what about an klingon bird of prey (with a Bahai Master on board  ) defeating 10 gem'hadar ships. A glorious victory. Means also more points.
And if you have that situation, four players ally against one. This one could still gain quite some points by playing well again such alliance. He probably loose the game, but also gets points. And the other 4 allied players wouldn't gain as much points as trying in a fairer constellation (e.g. 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 3).

I think the major problem is, that for such scoring you need ingame contents, like the statistic numbrs in the end of botf1. But it would make a tournament mode alot more intersting and subtile.

It's just some idea. What you think?

Greetings
David aka hofkomposituer

Well, i wouldnt really like to work with and create such a complicated scoring system. If this is what people want maybe there is some kind of simple way to work it all out and automatically update the ranking table.

the other problem is sometimes two un allied races declair war on one loan race without alliance will equal points be distriubted to whoevers declared war on the race when they get annihalted? if you know what i mean?

If they both did a good portion of "annialating" then yes, but if one sat back then its unfair to award that empire with points

This is a good idea, but I do hope the automatic online scoring system is eventually made. It would just be alot easier on everybody.

I think its not so good. This way you could wait until yourenemy is mainly destroyed by anotherone and could then conquer/destroy the last system to steal the point. The point should go to the one who destroyed/conquered the most systems i think.

You could also take an entirely different approach which eliminates all this trouble with who did nothing etc. Just give points to survive rather than to kill other people.

Say if you are the first empire that is eliminated you get 0 points, if you are the second empire to be eliminated you get 1 point, etc, etc. If you win the game you get 4 points.

If you win the game with an ally you get both 3 points (or all three get 2 points if you have two allies)

Much simpler and this also gives players like the federation a fair chance since they don't have to kill people to get points, but they just need to survive to get the points.
