Hello. I have been tring to convince a friend of mine to start doing some serious modelling for this project. His name is Luke.
Although he's pretty good he's not one to put himself forward for a project unless he knows he can complete it. Could someone set him a model to do, something that no one else is working on. He tends to use the latest version of 3D max. I'm not sure if he's a member of this site yet, but I know that if I gave him a ship to concentrate on he would become an active member...
Any suggestions please on a ship type that need modelling (from the administrators)? Comparitive size settings would be of use to him as well to give him some guidelines...I know the max Poly count is listed elsewhere in the forums.
I can be contacted on Trispugh@hotmail.com or through this forum. Luke is contactable via lukemay92@hotmail.com

if were going canon only then there wont be many romulan ships at all,,,,, not to mention that my dominion transport was made without any sort of guide. I think the more ships the better:)

Zahadoom is right - the game would end up unbalanced when it comes to the number of models for each of the races, unless those races with fewer ships simply have more upgrades, but that would be boring. (Unless the changing texture method was used, eg. Constitution gets upgraded to Constitution refit, use same models but apply the refit textures)
If you do decide cann ships only though, the models should be kept "in storage" for mods and things - if you don't mind that, Jig.

Cannon ships first, non-cannon after as we want all cannon in for sure and then add the others after the cannon slots are filled in.

Roger that. I will pass your request on and we'll see what he comes up with. I take it that the links to the race ship types on the 'info about demo release' post is definitive and they are the classes we are looking to produce?
I count 23 Romulan vessels assuming no or little replication of models, yes?
I'll reply to this post again when I know more...

Stupid question...by cannon ships I take that to mean the ships that have been seen in the episodes ? Is that correct ? I like Star Trek a lot, but some of the techno babble eludes me !

I thought the complete shiplist for all of the races has been agreed upon ages ago. So, we know which ships are going to be in and which are not, so in that case the order in which they are being made doesn't matter now, does it?

Tell you what, do the romulan warbird from TNG. Scale doesn't matter as we can resize later, textures can be 1 512x512 size 32bit (jig knows what format) i think tga it is. Or a few as in 2 or 3 256x256 texture maps or 5-10 128x128/64x64maps. (i think) Keep the poly for a cap ship like a warbird to about 2000 polys if possible 2500 is ok if great (jig can we alllow 3000 or not?).
Sorry the post is a bit messy but i just woke up (yeha i know im a lazy bugga but meh).

3000 should be ok for a capital ship, and lets face it, it`s not like the roms will ever get the chance to build more than a few

Hi guys, I've spoken to Luke and he says he can do a few of the Romulan ships...he is probably going to start with the warbird as we found some blueprints for it on line and can extrapolate them into the different planes on 3D max.
The major problem is that he is self taught and cannot yet texture to any great effect ...could anyone help him out in this regard...i.e perhaps we could come up with the line models and then pass them onto someone else who is good at texturing ???

Best thing is to learn to do it yourself really. Warbird aint hard its just green with a windows and a pattern for the top of it.
Pattern should be modeled in 3d max, colour it and apply shading effects and stuff render it in max use it as a texture for the normal warbird. Probably best thing to do.
