And yeah MOE, I was able to fix it, I think.. I dropped my speed 50mhz, 2.6ghz to 2.55, and.. well, they're not failing left and right at least. I'll give it a couple days, and see how the recent units go

Hey there! Welcome to the group, Mortse! :D

Make sure you enter our group number (46774) in the user configuration panel to ensure that your points are contributed to the team.

You won't show up in the group listings until you've completed your first work unit. The folding@home website only updates the page once an hour as well, so if you don't show up straight after you complete your first work unit, check again in an hour.

Anyways, again, welcome again to the group! :D

http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=46574

...

It's good to hear that your computer is ok now, Ringold. You're the main folder of the group, so it would be quite a blow to lose you.

Fingers crossed you've stopped the computer from meltdown. :)

...

My current workunit is due for completion at 21.53 (GMT) tonight, so i'll be getting us some more points as well.

We're currently ranked number 3530 of 41913 groups.

We're getting there!

Thx, I have been using other grid software for quite a while now. I used to be involved in the SETI project using BOINC which i did for a few years but more recently i have been using the U.D client for protein folding and genome processing.

But this is for BOTF 2 so i couldn't refuse! ^_

The software itself doesnt seem as well made as the others but it does the job i guess.

I will have my first unit completed within the next hour.

Yep!

There you are Mortse, you have 44 points from your first work unit. Again, welcome to our group! :D

Interestingly i've found that regularly defragging your Hard Drive helps decrease times a bit and regular Spyware and Virus scans (see above list lol)

Believe it or not, F@H is extremely well made for what its supposed to do -- science, and little else. Especially the console version -- zero graphics there, all command line, baby :D

They've got some 'special' versions ready to roll too, or nearly at least. Dual-core/multithreaded versions, and a special version to run using video cards -- latest generation only though, like the X1800. Apparently though it knocks the socks off even the fastest of CPU's by huge, huge, huge margins.

MOE, Azrael; careful guys, dont hurt yourselves, but you guys are neck and neck! Have been for a while..

.. who shall pull ahead? 8O

Must not even be 20 points per day difference at the moment... The difference could be just leaving on a comp longer, or maybe getting another comp folding. I figured one of you would pull ahead by now, but nope, its like a struggle!

Don't worry about it, Silvercliff - as long as your computer doesn't melt down, you can continue folding when it cools down.

Oh, and just so you know, over here in Britain, we're having blizzards! 8O

...

As an "update", we currently have 39606 points, and team 1000 has 90253 points.

So 90253 - 39606 = 50637 points to go.

Based on 2250 points per day:

50637 / 2250 = 23 days.

So that means we will beat team 1000 in 23 days! :D

...

By the way, welcome to the group, MStrobel.

You're not only helping to forward science, but you're also helping to advertise BOTF2. Welcome to the group.

Is that figure of 26days taken using their production rate or is it just with us doing WUs?

I'm basing it on the 2250 points per day figure that Ringold said we were <roughly> attaining - so it's based on points, and not necessarily work units.

Because you can never tell for definite how many points you will get for each work unit, and since you can't guarantee how much time the program will have to fold in per day, our points will obviously fluctuate from this figure.

All the other numbers I got from our team page, and from the extremeoverclockers.com website.

By the way, i've just noticed a mistake in my maths in my last post. I got the points for our team and team 1000 backwards...

...Yes and no.

I'm constantly keeping an eye on how many points that the group who is team 1000 has at the time that I post, so my calculations are up to date with the info that is available.

Obviously, the teams will be gaining points, but its at a very slow rate.

Team 1000 has only increased by about 200 points in the last week - and we're doing 11.5 times that in a day! 8O

I think my original total ppd estimate for our team might be off, I think it was accurate for the time (a very short 4 day sample), but I haven't written it down or anything so to figure out the points..

Almost 42,000 points though as of 1:15pm EST, if anyone wants to keep track :)

Also there's been a slight jump in the number of "active CPUs", which represents some of our new members.

Those guys got high in the rankings though probably by coming on hard, and then whatever project or team the represented fizzling out. Considering the forum has been here for as long as it has without slowing down, I don't see that happening to us though any time soon. Only thing between them and us is what they've done in the past, and we're burning through that fast!

Yeah, and we've beat the 42,000 point mark now - we have 42,022 points.

I did an idiot thing today...been out visiting relatives all day, so I left my computer on standby. When I got back, it had completed 80 frames. (Out of 250, so it takes around 10-20 minutes PER FRAME)

Heh...when in standby mode, the computer DOESN'T checkpoint (Save) any info, does it?

Well guess what I did?

Bloody sister...

Down to 19/250 frames now...

Let this be a warning to you guys - if you leave a computer on standby, make sure you give it at least the minimum amount of time it needs to checkpoint the files before logging off/turning off the computer!

the more high-end programs, graphics and such, as well as games will become unstable and crash. if stuff is crashing a lot more than usual, could be a heat problem.

There are many programs that can monitor and display the temperature of your pc components such as Motherboard Monitor 5:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311

I would say that if the temperature inside the case is reaching 40 C and the cpu is nearly 70 C then you have a heating problem.

Your case fans and/or cpu fan be in need of cleaning or replacing.

Ouch that is cold!

I've got the central heating on, so my computer is ok.

Qaz, you may also find that your computer feels hot to touch when it overheats. (Well no-one else mentioned it!)

...

I've done 60/250 frames. I'm still not up to the 80 frames that it did yesterday, even though my computer has been on for 9 hours...

I've also noticed that folding@home has registered me with 2 active CPU's - it's counting the fact that I reformatted my computer and reinstalled the program as meaning i'm using a new computer.

I haven't set up my old computer yet, and it looks like I never will either - i'm not gonna bother with getting a wireless router now, it'll cost too much and my sister can't be bothered with maintaining security on a computer!

...

We're currently team number 3336 with 42206 points.
