I agree with Smith (ers) Arabs and Muslims are no where near the racial divide that blacks endured during the 60's & 70's... I happen to work with an Arab who is Muslim (egyptian) and he's a very nice guy. His friends also are really cool.. If everyone got to know one person of another race/religion/belief group/etc/etc, there would be no racial problems. The reason someone is against another race is because they do not want to take the time to get to know someone or a few someones from that race... I happen to be white, with a black fiance, and two mixed sons. I have a half black sister, and puerto rican cousins. We even have a hint of Israeli, german, polish (that whole region pretty much) in our family history. I make it a point to say hi to everyone (even if I don't know them) just to put forth good will. (I'm in sales, so it helps my paycheck too)

anyway. What I'm tryint to get accross here is if everyone took 3 seconds when they see someone else, no matter how bad a day, or how late they are running, you might just make someone else happy, and may even meet a new best friend that way.

Im with ya 100% there, Sad truth is you never know if the person you say hi to is going to be a new friend or a knife wielding maniac who is having a bad day so decides to take it out on the first person he sees, sadly racism is more a part of our genetic makup more than social conditioning and will never go till we all become one race. sadly blacks were opressed and still are in some places but then so are some whites in africa and arabia, go back 200 years and blacks were slaves, go back 600 years and there were white slaves in africa, 2000 years ago the english were a slave race and the jews were the victim of ethnic cleansing and slavery as they were in the 1940's. My point being the past is behind us, yes bad things happened but theres no need for us to be beaten over the head with it every ten minutes because if you hit someone over and over eventualy your gonna get hit back, The past is the past and the future is ahead of us and we have the ability to make it into whatever we want, I myself am multi ethnic and my family has roots so diverse from mongolian to african to spanish and jew.. oh and british :) .

So perhaps, you can explain us why exactly this caused such a 'stir'... Because I realy do no see it. I see only one story. About a civil war in the US which has still 2 months to start and which is going to envoke a third world war.

Just took the liberty of reading trough this entire topic again. It was kinda hillarious, though.
But then again, the entire Titor story was so damned boring the entire thread went off topic from page 2 and onward. But, never mind :)

No civil war in the US and I hardly call the chaos in the middle east a World War III. (someone remember the Middle East being not in chaos?) Quis ergo conclusio: there is no John Titor.

EDIT: W00T!!! Guess who just got promoted! :D (at 361 posts, for those interrested)

not just you. I halved the postcost for all ranks. This is just because the maxposts to require the max rank, was just to much.

Is Rear Admiral actually a Star Trek rank?? :?
I have never heard of it. And especcially since it has only three bips, it doesn't look like anything higher than a Captain...

the admiralty square denotes it as being a flag officer. which is therefore immediately of higher rank than a line officer.

we'll ignore that the board has it wrong - a rear admiral only wears one pip. a vice admiral two, and a full admiral wears three and a fleet admiral wears four... :D

the problem with trek ranking is pretty well documented. the fact they changed the number of pips during TNG to NOT match the navy standards only made it more confusing. post TNG a rear admiral wore two pips through to a fleet admiral wearing five.

one particular admiral that i've researched a lot for my fic had several ranking inconsistencies - Fleet Admiral Alynna Nechayev. in one of her first appearances it was implied she was a full admiral - yet she only had two pips on her collar. she later appeared as a fleet admiral - the highest rank in the navy (and so one would assume starfleet as well) yet only had three pips on her collar. in her later few appearances she sometimes wore four and sometimes five pips. weird.

Perhaps when you're that high up you can decide how many pips you want to wear?

That is wierd, but most of the inconsistencies in Trek can be described in the same way...
