I also did like it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to spam the ex-staff with emails as I know for sure it is not going to happen. Ever. Enterprise is dead and burried (yeah, burried). It's a shame, I couldn't agree more. But there's nothing that can change that fact, so why bother. Those people organising this should get a life and forget about all this.

Just because you feel that way, doesn't mean you shouldn't bother emailing them.

If there is enough interest, they might even consider ANOTHER Trek... :D

All of Scatter's points are true, and continuing on about the Transporter issue, it was mentioned early on that they were not rated for human transport. Transporters were supposed to be used for extreme emergencies only, and for cargo transport.

Enterprise was field-testing the technology, which is why some of the people averted from it and why there were story-lines about Transporter mishaps. (The one about Hoshi's dream and the one where <someone> gets Transported and ends up with leaves attached to their body come to mind) Yes, there were Transporter mishaps even in Voyager, (Tuvix) but these were rare, and usually involved rare occurrences, sabotage, etc.

How can we possibly say that the technology was new in TOS if they were completely fine with it and used it as the standard method of getting off the ship?

Shuttlepods would still have been the most common method of ship-to-ship/station/planet movement if Transporters were a new technology.

There is also the fact that Enterprise Transporters didn't have things like advanced bio filters that were present in the Transporter systems of the later ships.

That is an obvious design lineage/tech upgrade that effectively negates the issue.

Now i'll end this coz I don't wanna seem like i'm ranting...

I stress that I'm not certain if it's his birthday or not, I just saw his name on a different forum for star trek games and his name was under current birthdays. I do apologize if it's not

But until then, happy possible-birthday Jig :)

Well I mentioned about it in an unrelated email I sent him today (Win-win situation - either he confirms/contradicts it, or he ignores it, thereby giving me the answer!)

Perry, welcome to the site, the forums and the Pro-Enterprise camp! It is truly a BRILLIANT series. Once you ignore the premonitions and are open to a new way of watching Star Trek. I will give you one piece of advice, though, after you saw the 25th episode think to yourself that the show is over, BEFORE watching the 26th and official final episode. The last episode of the so called 'Terra Prime' Arc is the final episode of the series. The one after that is just a mistake and a shame to the series itself.

Other than that one, the entire series is good and brilliant.

Anyways, I rewatched dear doctor just to be sure and you are right about the Ferengi there ;). Only I did say the word 'Ferengi' wasn't used in the episode Acquisation, I wasn't refering to the entire series ;)

I think the shows formula was a bit dry, i agree Enterprise is good trek... but considering the quality of newer, fresher shows such as Stargate and BSG it didn't surprise me that critics gave Enterprise a harsher time than it perhaps deserved.

I think the best explanation is that Star Trek is expected to be a cut above it's rivals, in these key areas

1.originality
2.storytelling
3.characterisation
4.special effects
5.impact episodes

TOS reeked of all of these virtues, except perhaps its special effects.

TNG was a worthy succesor, with less originality but with enough for credibility, also had its share of impact episodes

DS9 had star trek originality, but was a rip of Babylon 5, superior storytelling, characterisation, CG, money and impact episodes like A call to arms were the reason people loved DS9

Voyager had the promise of real originality but it sadly let down when it basically became like a TNG show with only an occasional obstacle of being 70,000 light years from the nearest support, a Maquis crew etc

Enterprise is not original, it is beaten or at least equalled by Stargate in almost all counts on the list.. Its as much to do with Sci-fi competition improving as Star Trek no longer pushing that Final Frontier...

I haven't read the whole thread, but my take on Ent is that it's at least as good as most of the other trek shows, yet not sufficiently different to keep the masses entertained.

The viewers can be split into 2 groups, Trek Nerds, and Non Trek Nerds. Trek Nerds picked it apart and couldn't get over the shape of the ship or the phase pistols etc. Non Trek Nerds probably just figured it was too similar to other Treks, as well as the overwhelming amount of Sci-Fi being aired, to really care to carry on watching.

I think that sums it up pretty well SoM.

The problem with Trek is that it's stuck in the 80's. Because TNG was so successful the powers that be were too afraid to mess with the format - episodic television with an A plot and a B plot.

DS9 was the exception to that rule, but if listen to the likes of Ron Moore and Ira Behr they talk about the producers relationship with Paramount like they were bastard children, which pretty much sums up how the studio treated DS9 apparently...

DS9 is not a rip off of B5, DS9 aired first. Star Trek needs a looong rest. i felt that enterprise should have been left on to run its course, the eps were entertaining because they were a little different from the standard bland trek. yes, they were going down the same road, the show was supposed to give us glimpse of how and why the other generations came to pass, at least in part.

Why would it need a long rest? I can't wait to see a akira class show. Or perhaps a few mini-series? Sounds fun? I know that character development won't be that good in a a few hours but it's still cool to watch i think.
