First of all I want to say, that I admire the work of the programmer(s) and want to thank him/them for starting such an amazing project for free.
Thx to Gavin, (and the other programmers) and the especially the guys, which are working on the homepage&forum and are always trying to show all the fans, how far the working progress is.

But now my question:
After reading some threads, i've found out, that there will be mods available for botf2. But will there be also language-plugins for european languages, e.g. german?
It would astonish me, if there will be only an english verison with several mods(which are also in english)....

And in the end:
I believe, that I speak for many botf-fans if i say, germany is also looking forward to Botf 2!!!

There's actually already a thread on that, if you want to check it out, Kerwyn.

Here you go:

The German Translation Thread

You might also want to get in contact with Ftranschel coz he's the guy who started the thread - and wants to translate it.

I'm sure he would appreciate any help he could get.

What's up with all the germans who want everything translated all the time. I once watched an episode TNG with German voice-overs. Man, what a horror that was!

Well i could say the same about a "ds9-the fallen" version in english...
I dare to say it's only a matter of habit.

But in a way i agree to you, if you say, that there are many incorrect translations.
For example: The movie "the rundown" was published in Germany as "welcome to the jungle"
Ok in Germany many expressions are in this times often changed by english expressions (some of us call this way of speaking denglish(deutsch->englisch)), but i can't get higher meaning of this translation.Where was the need of a new title?
And this is not an isolated case. I could mention many more titles, which were translated completely wrong. And in many movies also names are changed this way.

I don't even mean the correctness of it. I just mean the atmosphere you destroy/create with it. In my opinion it just sounds ugly if you hear Picard saying "Energie!" instead of "Engage!". Same with other films.

I come from the Netherlands myself and we always use subtitles instead of voice-overs. Just to keep the original atmosphere of the movie intact. English just sounds good!

yeah centurion your right. (I also come from the netherlands)But I also dont like it if a movie or serie is in another language...I'm happy they never do that in the netherlands..... And I think if you play a game you can understand it rather it is in English or german.......

We also need to decide on a definitive list of languages we're going to have the game translated into

English and German seem to be the main languages so far.

No one has asked for say a...French translation - yet.

There may be people who want them though, because wasn't one of the previous BOTF2 projects led by a French guy? :?

Anyways, whilst it would be good to have a list of languages, we also need a list of people who willing to do the translations. There's no point in having several hundred people suggesting their native languages if there is no-one out there willing to the translations in the first place! :(

i think it's safe for me to assume that i'm the only Spanish speaker in this site (native). now, i don't mind playing BOTF2 in english: i always preferred playing my games in english rather than spanish.
anyway, if you guys want to eventually translate the game into spanish, i'd be happy to help you.

No jig I have not yet started a translation as I have no answer from gavin on format, size and special issues of the files that are to translate (not even to mention the graphics!).

I will not start this as long as I have no clear statements. There are 4-5 people who want to help me, so this will be a quick process once the game is out or the final language files are sent to me.

Changing the graphics files should be relatively easy - to fix the main screen of the GUI, I edited the .pcx files in MS Paint, so changing them into Spanish should be easy enough to do - as long as you know what the translations are in the first place!

I certainly agree that having the game in several languages is a good thing though - it would broaden the appeal of the game. It was said early on that BOTF2 was gonna be aimed at newbies just as much as us old hands, afterall...

if the text on buttons were going to be drawn as you say in the game then gavin would need to redo a lot of code, text is done on a string command, and all the text is written into the code, unless he has set it up to read from an external file.

Well it makes sense and saves a lot of work. I haven't got a clue on how to program stuff - or even how you guys are able to draw all these incredible interfaces.

The only way I know how to draw is to do it pixel-by-pixel in MS paint, but you guys obviously use other programs. :P

Strange really, coz I find Paint is quite useful...
