Hello to all!
Because the time of release is almost at hand. I think this will be a nice topic to post.
So what kind of computer will we need for the game?
What OS will it support?
Could we use game pads, joysticks, like Panther XL Pro joystick? (I have it so Im intrested. )
Bla bla bla...
-------------------------------------------------------
My computer is:
AMD Barton 2500+ overclocked to 3200+
Abit NF7-S
Kingston 2x512MB DDR @ 400Mhz in DualChannel
Abit Siluro FX-5700
Creative SoundBlaster 5.1
Samsung SyncMaster 755DFX
Asus TV\FM card
Lucent 56k modem
LG DVD
LG CDRW
NEC Floppy
Iomega Zip100
And all of it is in Chieftec Matrix TX.
AltecLansing 251
Logitech QuickCam Pro
Ouh, and Genius K640 keyboard and Logitech MX310 mouse.
Huh... I didnt want to writte this much but since I started I figuerded I might finish it as well.
-------------------------------------------------------
After this above is replyed I wanna ask some direct questions.
1. What kind of sound system are we talking about?
1a. Will there be EAX or THX or simple 3D surround, Dolby, or just plain 2 speakers output?
1b. What sample rate will the sound be?
2. On what kind of resolutions will it run?
2a. Will it supports in game refresh rate setting?
2b. Will we have some special ON\OFF lights effects?
2c. Will it have antialiasing?
3. Will the controls be user friendly?
3a. Could we setup them as we want?
4. What kind of RAM usage will game have in the latter stadiums of the game? (after 400 turns it knows to slow a bit)
4a. Will we have option to load the game completly in to the RAM?
I think this covers it. All my questions. I urge people that have simillar questions to continue useing the numbers (5,6,7,...) for clear in sight of the thread. Thanks.
I hope that developers will answer this, because I can hardly wait! Bet you too.

win 98/2000/xp
direct x 9 or higher
1. What kind of sound system are we talking about?
sound system is just basic
2a. Will it supports in game refresh rate setting?
fps will be set to 35 you cannot change it
2b. Will we have some special ON\OFF lights effects?
no
2c. Will it have antialiasing?
no idea what this is
3. Will the controls be user friendly?
same as in botf man
3a. Could we setup them as we want?
no
4. What kind of RAM usage will game have in the latter stadiums of the game? (after 400 turns it knows to slow a bit)
ram usage will not be an issue as the mem will be flushed every turn, basicly what is on the screen at that time is all that will be useing your cpu
4a. Will we have option to load the game completly in to the RAM?
by this do you mean a full install? if so then no, this would just be a waste of time, at 35fps (which is more than enough for a tbs game) it would be pointless.
hopes this answers your questions.

2a:
Some tools can force your monitor refresh rates to the best ur monitor can support at specific resolutions. I know nvidia used to have this, gone from recent drivers well not gone but hidden, enabled again via "coolbits" reg fix.
About frame rate, as jig has said it will be max of 35 fps as well basically its a 4x game so u dont need uber gfx cards for 60fps.
2c:
Not totally sure but if jig doesnt program in smoothing of polys (anti-antilizing) then perhaps your gfx card control panel (if nvidia mainly) can force antiantilizing.
Jig.. Its for low res gaming where if poly games had a stepping effect (jaggered edges) then AA smooths them out by increasing the res and croping it to the res its set by, i think.

you have a nack for asking kinda unrelevant or silly questions sirNemanjapro!!
this is a hobbist game with no budget and no massive dicated programming group! im sure the programmers arnt even considering half this stuff, and im sure the majority dont care
As long as it runs and has abit of noise coming out of the speaker im happy
EDIT: sry not meant to be a flamer, just raising an eyebrow!

he has the right to ask questions about system needs, please do not start a flame over such an issue.

Ehm... not trying to spoil your fun, but I have yet to see this game comming out before the summer. Will take probably a while longer still now the code has to be rewritten.

Thank you all very much for takeing time to answer (by some people) unrelevant questions. But I want this topic to be a TOTAL System Requirements FAQ.
I must repeat, I know that the game is FREE and that it dosent have mamuth budget resources. But things that I have asked are important if the game is planing to be built in 2006. And there fore rated by Gameing sites and Magazines.
By refresh rate I ment the monitor refresh rate. 60Hz, 70Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz, 110Hz...
And about the screen resolution, (well its maybe far out but) will it have 1600x1200?
Well I cant think any more questions (thank God some people will say, I dont blame them ), so for now thats it.
And thanks to all for reply!

For monitor refresh rates, I thought these were set based on what region you are in?
My monitor is set at 60 hertz, which I was told was the European hertz setting. If such settings are regional, then I think being able to manually reset it yourself is pointless. Your monitor should do that for you.
sirNemanjapro, there's one thing that I need to make sure that you're clear about though: You do know that there are gonna be TWO BOTF2 games out, don't you?
The original game was being led by a called Gavin. This site was originally set up for his game. It is being run by AFC, and Jig kindly stepped in to maintain it.
About 5 or 6 months ago, things started to really break down in the dev team, and Gavin dissappeared.
Jig decided that he'd put too much into the project to simply allow it to die due to the lack o a programmer, so he started to make his own game from scratch - Jig didn't have any of Gavins completed stuff for the game, coz Gavin had never given any out.
Now that Gavin is gone, this site is about Jig's game. Now we're not saying that Gavin is dead and won't ever come back - we literally do not not know where he is. There's been no posts, PM's, emails, phone calls, NOTHING.
Gavin may return, but it is unlikely to happen.
So basically, this entire post is just to make sure that all your questions are directed at Jig's game. Forget about Gavin's game - unless he comes back.
The game is being made by Jig now, and that is all that is relevant to the forums now, so please don't ask questions about the other game. If your post is about Jig's game, then feel free to continue with this thread.
As the other guys have said though, this is a volunteer project. There is no money for development, and we're not asking for any - and never will.
There won't be Doom-style graphics and it won't use surround sound. It will be better than BOTF in one significant way though - it won't have problems due to bad programming.

I was asking about the jigs game.
I didnt know what has happend. This small history leason was pretty good!
But dont you or site admin knows Gavins email or cell or something. In what city was he in... We must see if the man i still alive.
60Hz European standard for TV lol
60Hz is too low. I cant work on it. I use 85Hz screen refresh rate.
Here is a pic.
Somethimes I feel that people dont read my post to the end...

Just read my post more carefully.

Try a TFT. It doesn't matter, then.

i dont understand what you mean?
this isnt going to be rated by magazines etc, well at least not until it has spread throughout the wider community... this game is only for people who like botf, as far as i know jig isnt really aiming to bring it to as many people as possible, just whoever wants it, no marketing etc, so it doesnt matter if it has surround sound or anything flashy... just as long as its playable!

Well I mean right what I have said.
The game will eventualy be rated by someone and compared.
Many of the trekies that played the original game dont know that forum even exsist. So it would be nice for the game to be rated by some magazines like private endurance of fans. And than it would be nice to get some nice critics.
After it. Developers could make BotF3 that will be a enormus enterprise. And people ...
I better dont talk. I dont know what are the planes of the jig and others. But if they maybe decide to do a BotF III it would be a smart thing to get Activision or Viacom or Paramount or someone, and make a comercial game.
Imagine, the game that is beeing built by the hard core gamers. It would be a blast for sure!
Just few thoughts.
And UnDated i think its only fair to ask. Im intrested.
I said:"2b. Will we have some special ON\OFF lights effects? ", never falshy. And its a common things these days for the games to have on\off lights effects. Or something other. Maybe someone will have a crap GPU so he will have to turn it off.
That is what I ment.

If you can run botf fine, you can run botf2 fine. Although we've got better quality bits in most things the minimum specs will be fine.

Alright, basically, the licence for the Trek games currently belongs Atari - and if you don't believe me, here's the official support page for BOTF:
Click For Atari's BOTF Support Page
Since Jig doesn't work for Atari, we're making the game without a licence. That is where all the worry about lawyers comes from. The less attention that is drawn to the game, the better.
The big games companies have had 7 years to make a BOTF2 (Or similar) game, and they haven't. That is why we're here now. So that we can correct this great oversight of the games companies. We're the fans, and we're the ones that would willingly spend money to have the game.
They haven't listened, so we've resorted to making our own game.
If games magazines and websites started to write reviews and the like about the game, it draws the attention of others to the game. Yes, that will attract more fans, but yes that will also attract the attention of lawyers.
I know that you know all this, and no I am not retarded. I just wanted to drill this point home, and I will not mention it again unless you personally bring it up, sirNemanjapro.
Please don't ask for surround sound, graphics improvements, interviews, or whatever. Just stick to topic, and if you have legitimate questions, then ask them. But otherwise, steer clear of these topics. Jig has thought long and hard as to what kinds of graphics he'd like, we'd like, and what he can program.
The game will be pretty...enough said.

Screw Atari!
Hang the lawyers!
Come and live in Serbia!
I guess this could be the moto.
What would it take to get lawyers off developers back?

yeah... i suggest NOT getting it reviewed until the game is released, multiple metaservers are up, and its out there.
Atari could C&D the project, and then were all SCREWED. But if the project is released, and out there, its unstoppable - they cant stop EVERY computer with it installed
BT is one way it wont die if its C&Ded... no one can stop Distrubuted Decentralized BT.

Or p2p, maybe you don't like that idea jig but if Atari did decide to try and C&D the project then that may be our only option of getting i out to all the people that want it (C&D - you what? lol)

What is C&D?
I suggest that the game will be distributed over eMule servers. Last night I hawe downloaded Zend Studio, it was 87MB and it took me 5 hours over 56k.

This is a clear violtation of forum rules, discussion of piracy will not be tolerated, this leads to an automatic ban.
