Im thinking why did the dominion surrender when only a tiny part of there empire was in the alpha quadrent.

They had thousands of reinforcments in the gamma quadrent. Which could easily have came through the wormhole near the end of the show as the cloaked minefield was down and i dont think the "prophets" would stop them more than once.

Plus so what if that founder got killed there was more in the gamma quadrent albiet dying. I dont think they should have surrendered just cos the alliance got to cardassia and won that particular battle against the dominion and the cardassian/breen. As they could have come back alot stronger from the wormhole with new founders and ships and soldiers.

I know from the show point of view it had to end like that but thinking "out side of the box" here it could have went the other way if they did what i am talking about dont u think?

Also bit confused as to the disease of the founders. They had a massive empire spanning at least half the gamma guadrent. They must have had some races under there control that were amazing genetisists that could have found a cure. Plus they themselves were experts at altering things genetically. Weird how they couldnt have found a cure at the end. I think thats the only reason dominion surrendered so odo would go back and cure the rest.

yea i think so as well the founders would have the cure, they probably couldnt take the risk of sending an entire fleet through the wormhole, sending a few test ships is grand, but theyd be picked off by ds9, and a fleet would be a huge waste!

I've seen fanfics where people have addressed this problem.

Generally though, they all start off with similar basic storylines:

15 years after the end of DS9, the Dominion return in strength. The Federation, Klingons, and Romulans all fall within two years of the invasion, and a 200-year Dominion occupation of the Alpha Quadrant results.

During that time, great leaps in technology and medicine occur, thanks partly to what was left of the Federation's thirst for knowledge. The people become indoctrinated with worshipping the Founders, but the knowledge that they are enslaved is never truly forgotten.

The occupation only ends when the Founders eventually turn their attention to the rest of the Galaxy and beyond. Things start to go wrong for them, and the Alpha Quadrant is left to fend for itself. Famine and dissent spread throughout the Alpha Quadrant, and eventually the remaining Jem'hadar are forced to retreat.

The Founders didn't bother to send reinforcements, as the devastation means there would be no worthwhile gains from a reoccupation. Their assessment of the situation maintains that there is no chance of the Alpha Quadrant uniting against a common enemy; the Founders themselves.

They were wrong though. What was left of the old Federation, Klingon, and Romulan Star Empires unite together under a common cause, and they exact they vengence on the Founders.

well such an idea is noncense, absolutely after odo returned to the great lake. It seems more probally that the 'Founders' got another view over solids, and now know that not all of them are a thread to them. They know that the Federation will guard the wormhole and will not allow others to go through.

@Skeeter, the mainfleet that went through the wormhole was HUGE. I would think it's a major blow to the dominion and that it would take time to send ships to the alpha quadrant because they probally have to guard there borders and defend facilities and systems. Also i don't think the Dominion empire was a near as big as the Federation. Remember Weyoun saying that they needed an enormous loads of resources and armed personal to control such a vast amount of space. He said this with awe, as if it was quite a bit bigger then Dominion space. At least that is what i took from it...

Anyway my story would not let the Dominion involve into Federation space anymore. It sounds unrealistic compared to DS9 to me. Also that comes to my mind now.. The federation would have got 15 years to make adaptions and strengthen their weapons against Dominion type of vessels. Also the Romulans would have signed a non-aggressions threaty with the Federation and would not stand back this time, because of Nemesis. A Federation-Klingons-Romulans-Cardassian Alliance against the Dominion? I would not give the dominion a chance. They are powerfull, yet this was because of an advantage in that their weapons could cut through shields in the beginning, later with the wide amount of ships and the foothold because of Cardassia, and after that with the Breen. This time they have to do it on their own, because they would be enclosed by multiple enemies.

In the series they go on about how the prophets actually do continue to stop them.

That'd make sense since Sisko basically turned into a Prophet.

Anyway, section 31 > the dominion :P

I agree that I don't feel it realistic with the show that the Dominion would invade the entire Alpha Quadrant again. My take on the Dominion, the reason why the Founders wanted to conquer everyone, was a mix of genuine fear that "solids" were going to destroy the Changlings and an overall superiority complex that shape-shifters were simply better. Throughout the course of the show, enough evidence was presented showing that the Founders were actually a pretty paranoid race which--at some point in the past--had been persecuted. Likewise, the Changlings talked about evolving into shape-shifters from solids and consistently had a rather condescending attitude towards all current solids. As I understood it, the end of DS9 was all about teaching the Founders--through Odo's experiences--that some solids are good, enlightened people worthy of respect, and honestly this seems to fit in better with Trek "philosophy" to me. Still, I'm beyond over-analyzing a fictitious race of people. If nothing else, they certainly make good villains to fight against.

Sorry guys, I read it a very long time ago, so I haven't got a clue where it was. Plus the fanfic was a singular piece of fiction, it wasn't a series in it's own right, which makes it all the harder to find it again.

I did a google to see if I could find it, but couldn't find anything. The closest thing to it was a couple of maps of Dominion-controlled space on st-minutiae. The maps are supposed to be set in the 2500's.

The site with the maps

If I find it again, i'll post links for you, coz it was a really good read, and what i said before was just the bits that I could remember.

i think i know the one your talking about, there are actually 2 stories, one with a old cargo ship with the crew sent to scout out an area of space 25 years away from federation space, and when the return (using statis) the dominion had invaded through another wormhole, and taken over everything. there were different species fighting together against the dominion, like bajorians and cardies, while the human resistance is in hiding. only 1 series was written, in the last episode the borg( the dominion destroyed them too) return with there last 7 remaing cubes intent on assimilating the link. They do, and head to earth to protect it...
