Everyone does it! I've been playing with physics since age 4; calculating since freshman year, high school... And yet it took me until last year (age 30) to really get the idea of 'equal but opposite reaction' in the context of energy conservation! Simple, basic stuff, right? But I had to be confronted with a problem in partical momentum within a fusion reacion to really grok it! Boy did I feel stupid once I did!!!

yeah that would be great, ill put together a list of questions, but mainly im stuck on the method to do certain things. For example, I am placing a large force at the end of a box section cantilever to apply a twisting moment to an existing frame, but im attaching it to the frame using already existing screw holes. How will i know if those screw holes will not strip when i apply a load? Just basic engineering that they dont teach!

well you have to look at what type of forces are acting on the screws, now for that its best to draw a picture of the specific situation, there are many things to consider in such a situation. We have to look at them all and pick the worst on and design for that. In the case of already existing screw holes I think that we would be looking a a shearing force. ( do you have a diagram???) I think that i have a picture of what you mean but im not totally sure. If it is a shear force then it a case of calculating if there is enough material to hold them, It usually involves experimentation, but generally someone has already don it and the will have a value for the amount of shear force that the area holding the screw can take. It also depends on the materilas involved.....I could go on and on. But yes get some questions ready:)
