If you read my plea in the F@H thread you'll know i've just purchased a couple of cpu's off ebay. Well one of them an old Pentium Pro arrived this afternoon. Strangely though it had a piece of foil stuck over the top of the cpu where the logo is located....

I knew this at the time of purchasing as the item was significantly cheaper than other's going at the time. The foil is stuck on by some form of glue and i can't see a way of removing it. I'm NOT using the cpu in a pc (just for show) so if anyone has any idea on how to remove it i'd be very greatful.

Some kind of solvent cleaner perhaps, but i'd like to preserve the logo if possible.

try lemon juice or vinigar on a cloth. or actually wd 40 might also work

Na, seriously, you can get glue removers, but they might do more hard than good, and since you don't know what type of glue was used it isn't worth the risk.

Why did you buy it if you're not gonna use it though Chris?

yeah, there are always junkyards, or garage sales for cheap old parts.

Man, I had a box of old Pentium Pro CPUs, but I think I finally threw it out a while ago. But I can poke around my parents' basement next time I'm up there.

Just from the angle the picture was taken, it looks similar to modern integrated heat spreaders, so is it possible it's actually intended to be on it?

On the other hand, I've got zero experience with that CPU, so, yeah. shooting in the dark
