Get someone that doesnt look like a kid.

Personally only film of trek i want is with picard or riker or ds9 film or voyager film. Mainly riker tho. I want to see him be a captain.

:o ow well, maybe it isn't a bad choice... it could be much worse
@ Skeeter: this movie is going to show the early years of kirk so it must be a young person

I also want to see more about the late TNG era, but it seems we wont get it..... maybe after this movie they will learn of there mistakes and make a new movie about the late TNG era :)

Instead of seeing this movie to see where the future of Trek story is going... I have changed my mind.

Now I'm going to see this movie for the pure comedy value that it seems to now have. Harrah!

But please, please, please don't cast Ben Affleck as Spock. Nothing against Affleck, I just think that would be too much to take, like it's Space Will Hunting or something.

I liled Damon in the Bourne films, but he's too much of a 'face'. If Kirk is going to be cast as a cadet or young ensign then surely they must go for the best possible lookalike, even if he's a rookie actor - or, really go to town on expenses by going CGI - they could get a voice performance out of Shatner and let the best possibe CGI do the rest for a young Kirk - It's technically feasible. I reckon it can be done, anything can be in CGI today, look at Gollum.

Best thing is usually trek makes stars from unknowns. I mean we didnt really see anyone from trek in massive roles. Well i didnt. Only think i can say about shattner and nimnoy was that cop show.

CGI isn't quite good enough to make a believable human being... yet.

If you think though TOS should be cos it came first. That should be the benchmark

TOS is cannon to me.

Anyhow i really wish paramount do a talent search from all the trek fans one that can write really good. Hire him/her/it? And make a trek film from that or series..

yeah, it would definately save trek if they did that. But I think they want to make the timeline complete so there arent many parts between the year 2164 and 2375 we've mist :?

still I think it will be an interesting movie, with the romulans involved in a big way :)

so enterprise was sent back to 1960 just like that?? it travelled to the galactic barrier in like a wek, there are loads of silly things that dont make any sense to the rest of the series... and are never mentioned again...

True with some things like gal barrier etc. But its still cannon just because makers of tng and the rest changed the timeline and things to fit in their era doesnt mean its not cannon cos its not same in TOS. TOS had some freedom being that it was first trek.

WTF, I just can't believe this!! Not just the fact that they are casting Matt Damon for it, but more like the entire concept. Kirk himself was quite young as captain (30-40 yrs) and now they want to make a movie of the "even younger" Kirk (about 20 yrs) and he is captain even THEN! Jeez, guys: start thinking! Most cadets haven't even left the academy at that age!

I don't know if he'll be a captain in the movie.

However, it will be lame movie without an actual captain imo. While the technology and uber starships aren't needed for a great movie, that are definitely part of great Star Trek stories.

If all we do is watch Kirk hang around in the academy and follow him as he tries to juggle 6 women at once... it might as well be a soap opera.

I thought it would be a movie about the federation - romulan war and the early days of kirk. Could have misread it  Maybe Kirk will do something in this movie witch makes him captain  After all in every startrek serie they are talking about "the great adventures of kirk and the Enterprise" :)
