Do I need to do something with the Fed Fleetyards?
Currently, they stand at over 7000 polys (no optimization yet) :D.

I might have to remove a construction dock or two

B.t.w. - the klingon Fleetyards WIP:

Damn, you work fast. Those fleet yards look sweet :). It shouldn't matter if the shipyards have a high poly count, so don't trouble yourself with unnecessary optimizations.

Romulan Fleetyards:

3800 polys unoptimized.

I'll have to put more construction docks on this one and the Klingon one to be on pair with the Federation one.

Note that hte fleetyards include lesser yards as their subobjects, so we basicly have to figue out which ne will be which.
Teh Fed Fleetyards have the large and medium ones, the klingons got only medium ones so far, roms are the dsame as feds :d

And a litle treat:

the GalaxyX is 1970 polygons and uses a singel 1024x1024 texture. The Galaxy uses the same texture and has less polys :D

I still have to fix the part where the neck and the saucer section join, as it's damn hard to find decent textures of that part anywhere..

No problem. I'll do then within the next 2-3 weeks.

I would have posted hte Galxy and GalaxyX and the Cardassian shipyard sooner, but I was out of town on Tuesday.

I'm currently also out of town and won't be back untill Firday eavning. Untill then, I'll be collecting texture scraps from all over the internet that might come in handy :D

EDIT:

Now that we have the Kron (heavy destroyer), K'vek (battlecruiser) and Nierrh(romulan escort) for use, we should place them somewhere in the shiplist.

I couldn't contact whoever made the romulan Firehawk yet, can't find his e-mail or him as a member on several different ST sites. I'm asking around and hopefully I'll locate the bugger to get his permission as the model is uber-sweet.

Oh, and before I forget - there is a screenshot of the Vor'cha class (mine and MAP's) so add that to the shiplsit too :D

Visually, I wasn't expecting there to be an obvious design lineage - I thought this might be a bit too much to ask of our modellers.

However, seeing the models that trashman is building, this could become a definite possibility - and would be a great touch to the overall feel of the game.

Obviously the shipyards will be upgradable in BOTF2. Some of the minor races will have their own equivalent shipyards - in fact, we're gonna need models for those. I'll do some digging and see what additions the shiplist needs for you, Trashman. I'll send Dafedz another PM about the "extra models"as well. He hasn't been on the site in a few days to my knowledge though... :(

...

If there's no Norway in the pic, what's the ship above the Galaxy-X? It looks like a Norway to me, although it's at a difficult angle to make out properly. If it's not a Norway, then it might be a Saber. I just can't make it out properly.

Hobbes and Cleeve are in contact, and Cleeve made the low-poly models, so we are in the clear :D
Hoever, it might not hurt to contact Hobbes.

Still havn't managed to track down whoever made this:

Now THAT is a Romulan B'rel class if I ever saw one!

That is a cool ship. Based on the look and size of it (Not that i've got much to go by size-wise) it looks like it would work well as the Romulan R'Kovar class Heavy Scout.

Keep trying, Trashman! It'll be be great if we could use it!

...

Does it really matter about small details like that, MStrobel? If you've programmed it differently then so be it. There's no point in creating more work for yourself by chaning it just because it's "different". We're making multiple games afterall, so there's gonna be some differences.

Yeah, the whole upgrade path for shipyards doesn't matter much to me (gameplay wise, it might be better to jump to whichever size you want, plus it can add some additional strategy. Need ships now? Build the small/medium one).

However, that doesn't mean that there can be a visual upgrade "path" in the design. I mention this now because there's a lot of talk about modeling shipyards with a few already completed, so now would be the time to create the visual things.

Personally, I would imagine that you can see the small shipyard somewhere in the medium shipyard. The same would go with the large shipyard and having the medium shipyard recognizeable somewhere in it. It doesn't matter much how their built, the same graphics would get used. But I think it'd be one of those neat minor details and help improve recognizeability of the shipyards since they pretty much all use the same "base" structure (which is just the small shipyard).

Like I said, though... wicked minor. And I'm not an artist so I don't fully understand what's involved.

To me it looks like something heavier than a scout. By tweaking the textures we can make it look as big as a warbird or as smal las a B'Rel.

It all depends where you want to put it in.

Hmm....I'm now having a strike of inspiration for a really, really MEAN romulan ship...

Guess I am still a little confused. I am new to this and want to do model ships and or 2d pictures for structures. Is the color coded list the simple list of what still needs to be done? I see what is done and is being worked on down the long list. Do I just say Rom, OUTPOST I and you put a tag on it as taken, work underway on the color coded list? (Only the best and the brightest in Starfleet)

Just look at the list, find a ship/station that you like the sound of, and build it. If the model is a non-canon ship/station (And most of the non-Federation ships and stations are anyway) then you can have as much fun as you like with the model.

All that we ask for is that you look at WHO will build it (Feds, Klingons, etc.) what the role of the ship will be (Is it a small fast maneouverable Scout, or is it a huge, intimidating battleship?) and what ships of a similar era look like.

The more thought you put into the model, the better it will look in the long run.

These "rules" aren't meant to be restrictive - they're just there to give you - the modeller - some simple guidlines to follow, to ensure that we get some consistancy between the quality and design of the models. We don't want 5 Nacelled Federation superbattleships or unarmed Klingon freighters!

...Except maybe in a mod...

I colour-coded the shiplist just to make it a bit easier to work out which model belongs to which race. I'll admit some of the colours are a bit difficult to see, but that's mostly down to the colour choices of the forums.

Me and the Admin are the only people who can edit the shiplist - so you can't edit it when you decide to build a model. Just post and let me know and i'll update the shiplist so other people know it's being worked on.

The most important thing to remember is that there is no rush though - the game(s) won't be out for a while yet.

Moving a bit slower than expected..

Currently working on mapping the Fed and Card shipyards.

I made two version of hte Large Yard for hte Feds, since I was indecisve.

Personally, I find the left one better.

And the Fed Medium Yard:

Also, here's how the Cardassian Large Shipyard looks for now (without the round power generator that all cardassian stations seem to have)

The texture is only 256x256, as I really didn't find a bigger one to use as a basis (even for Bridge Commander stations - can you belive that???)

Those really look nice. I have a question about size though. I am just getting started with 3D modeling but have not found anything yet about size guidelines for my models. (A basic laws of physics stats that size maters.) So how do I know if the Outpost model I am constructing will be, or can be made, proportional to the ships and other structures that are built and will be built?

Stations can be up to 4000 polys max if the model is detailed and looks the bees knees.

Thanks. So that is the complexity / data limit and it can be scaled to look right next to a ship once the file is submitted for the game? Work is coming along nicely.

I was worried about my station looking like Stonehenge in Spinal Tap the movie. It would not look good at half the size of a small ship. (Sorry about the Cadet / Beginner question)
