I lost a game of botf online last night :(

It started well! there were two of us in game and the rest were all AI controled.

They chose the feds and i picked the klingons and i started in a good place expanded my empire untill about turn 50 when i met the big ears :(

I refused to sign non agression as it would boost there money income alot and this angered them! before i knew it we were at war. It was a long war and both sides had big loses (how they can build a fleet of 18 command and 26 fast attack from nowhere as they had only 10 systems ill never know) when all of the sudden around turn 70 i meet the cardassians and federation on the same turn.

The cardassians declared war instantly and this put even more strain on my resourses! they had a mediam size fleet of crappy ships compared to my battlecruisers but i had to send reinforcments to our joint borders, i had low income through lack of trade and hardly any credits due to winning the zakdorn over and building a constant supply of ships.

anyway i was in a bad way when the feds decided to take my deep space outposts out and declare war.

the rest of the game was an uphill struggle i signed non agreesion with the cardassias which they broke the turn after and was just holding my own when the feds main fleet arrived. My ships were scattared on 3 fronts and most were still on there way to various places from my main system. I stopped the fed fleet about 5 sectors away from zakdorn which was located in the middle of klingon space there was a big battle which i lost and the cards were helping themselves to my southen systems whilst the big ears were raiding my westeren boarders all in al the rest of the game was me holding them off for as long as possible and causing as much damage as i could before the fall of my empire :(

This has put me in an extreamly aggressive mood ready for the games ill be having at the weekend so beware jiggy!!

LOL,

Jade, Been there did that, but not online..

Just remember to keep your head in the game.. When dealing with Ferengi (AI) always set some scouts to raiding right off the bat. Take there money and they get trapped. Anyhow they do with me anyway.

And you played this modded??? Interesting..

The ferengi advantage is how cheap their ships are to build. They're pretty much disposable, just like razors and pens.

They may be cheap but with a dilthium/sector ratio of 2/10 they couldnt have built that fleet that fast! its impossible

That's 2 ships per turn if they buy them (which they probably did). Cheap ships + huge income = lots of bought ships. It's really how the ferengi thrive since their ships, compared to other empires, suck.

What mode were you in? I play impossable, minors many, randoms off, Large Galaxy, Always start at beggining level 1. It just makes the play more interesting to me. Being already fully loaded is okay but gets boring after a few years. Or for fun and giggles, I set my Roms at Level 5 and everyone else at level 1. Then set myself a 10x10 grid border and hold everyone off till someone reaches the higher tech levels. Then Battle! lol

I only do that when I bored with my regular game which is at turn 5237.

I actually selected small, max tech for me, min tech for everyone else, and pretty much just constructed scout ships and troop transports. That's right, I had birds of prey leading planetary assults.

Essentially, I had never actually seen some of the empire victory scenimatics. So I ensured victory :p

I must admit that I personally like starting with low tech levels on large galaxies. I like to expand peacefully as much as possible. Sometimes I do it a little too peacefully and continue expanding into enemy space before I build a ship that is actually capable of a worthy battle. That's occasionally bad.

I like low tech, large galaxy as well, it gives me more time to build the fed economic powerhouse. I usually only set the minors to few or some though. I just don't like using them too often. Not sure why, just don't. 8)

I'm a sucker for defiants, so I use many minors and ensure I hit up all of the ones that bestow research bonuses.

Observation:

Why on God's green earth would you allow the two best espionage/sabotage races to team up together? Do you enjoy reconstructing ships and buildings and losing money? :p

AI annoys me.

I say all human players, and if needed than maybe one ai. I guess the BOTF AI has killed me too many times. It may be because I never really learned how to play efficiently...

Jade so your up For a game?

Jig, I love my broadband. I have not had it that long but to use anything else would be like not being online at all.

Heck I would play Ferengi (Gulp) even if it meant we could all be in a game slugging it out for turf!

LOL
