Your list was good, I'd only add, hideki, nova, constellation, and any other made up alien ships. The steamrunner's a cool ship, but perhaps not necessary.

Well i just would like to have the best known vessels in the game, i could always mod they others in.

Exactly, I really think that list has it covered. I'd mod loads in over time, but the official release has to have a sense of balance etc.

i already added the nova and hidiki, i forgot about the constellation though.

they were of older classes

certain classes of ships shouldnt be replaced in favor of others

and dont forget the nebulas, they were widley used too

I think that's perhaps still too many, and there's no need for unknown ships like the rigel or curry.


Just to clear this all up then, ships or the same type will replace one another in the build queue when researched. Looking at it category by category. This is how I personally would do it.

SCIENCE SHIPS


Daedalus (nx/tos era)

Oberth (tos era) replaces daedalus

Nova (tng era, late on) replaces oberth


MULTIPURPOSE STARSHIPS

Nx-01
Nx-02

Constitution (tos era) replaces nx classes, upgrades to movies refit
Excelsior (late tos era)
Ambassador (late tos/early tng) replaces cons

Galaxy/Nebula (tng) replaces ambassador
Sovereign (late tng) replaces excelsior


BATTLESHIPS/OTHERS

Intrepid (nx era) not the voyager one

Miranda (tos era- around cons refit time) replaces intrepid
Constellation (tos- around excelsior time)

Akira (tng- before galaxy) replaces constellation
Intrepid (u don't know..) replaces miranda
Defiant
Prometheus


I'm bound to have missed something.... I think the biggest objection I'll get is that everything gets replaced. However you don't want the miranda clogging up the build queue when you could build an intrepid etc etc etc.

The first intrepid is the ship name not the class name, was in an ent ep.

The Excelsior doesn't get replaced for ages- mainly because it's cool.


Regarding upgrades. I think each ship except for tng era ones should have 2 upgrades, (1 for tng ships).

The first upgrade becomes available exactly between when the ship is researched and when it's replaced.
The second is available when it's actually replaced, that way you won't build any of this configuration as they will be completely outdated, yet you are able to at least bring the older ships somewhere near the newer ones.

If this gets a good reaction I'll do the klings...

the daudless is a tos era ship, which intrepid class was in enterprise? if there is one then we have 3 ships for feds ent era which is enough i reckon.

Well the daedalus predates the constitution, figured it could be between ent and tos somewhere.

If the nx is capable of limited scientific study, we won't need a science ship as such for ent era.

The intrepid was in an ep called the expanse, never watched it- just seen screencaps on various fan sites. It's apparently a bit older than the nx (warp3 or something) but looks really mean. You could start with a handful of these, and have the nx-01 as the brand new ship at the beginning.
