Who actually owns a ATI X19xx series GPU? Just wondering as if we can "persuade" them then we'd get lots of points super fast - 5x as fast aparantly. Still no Ringold though...

Ringold is on another team, that I saw when I went through the lists a few days back.

Hmm I think Bill Gates has a superfast computer. LOL.. If I had my way I would put a F@H in the super computer at Norad! lol Talk about processing speed a 500/500 would be done in like 7 seconds! lol (guessing here) or in other words we could fold something like 300 to 400 WU's an hour! LOL
IT is just a dream!

Well if we had 1000 members folding or doing something rather than doing nothing and not contributing then we might be a lot further up - still that's not really the point is it

Hey guys. Haven't been folding lately as I've had PSU problems. I have an X1900XTX, but when I tried the client, no work was getting done, it would just stick at 0/0. I'll try again and see what happens

Which program are you trying to use? I'm on the 5.03 I think and so far it seems to be the most stable.... (second one down on the list..) could not run the fancy fancy one!

I'm using 5.05 because that's the one that takes advantage of my 1900 vid card. It says: "Large WU startup (178)" 178 is what it was at when I checked, but it keeps growing. Maybe I should just let it load overnight and see if it's started the actual work by morning.

Hmm...it should only be loading up stuff for a minute or two...five at the most. That's what its like on mine.

Ok, you've got a different version and different hardware, but still... :?

...

Stumpy IS on the folding team, Winterhawk - he's actually under two names - Gareth_Morgan and Authur_Wonderbird. He forgot about his Authur_Wonderbird nick until after he'd folded a few units.

I'm up to 250 and counting. I have no idea why it's taking so long, and it seems to be sending stuff to the recieve server every 30 seconds or so, but it's not WUs. Odd...

It's true though that the shorter length of time to complete the WU the less number of points you get. It's just luck - bad luck if i get a massive 600 pointer and trying to fold on my XP 2400+, 7 hours a day

Okay this is weird. I just worked a 250 pointer. I opend up my wifes side of our XP. she now has the 250 pointer running on hers and I am working on a 500. I had not ever seen this before. I was thinking we both use the same processor therefor we both work the same unitl I mean we ARE both on the same computer! But if it is going to give us more points then i'm going to let it run! I'll monitor it closely to see what really is going on here.

Umm have you got a Pentium 4 with HT Tech? You might be running two WUs simultaniously as i think you can do that on a HT capable PC

It won't let me run 2 at the same time, and I'm fully Dual Core. I think it's just based on the user that is logged in. A different WU is probably set up on a different user.

I understand that. I was thinking the same thing.. Anyhow. This thing has me working the same one again as wel as my wife. but hers says /250 WU and mine says /500 WU... I am going to shut down and bring them up again... something is amiss..

[ EDIT ]

I found out what was going on with my computer. With XP as you all know, you can set up more then one person which in effect is like having 2 or 3 ect computers but they are all built into one. Well I went to check my wifes e-mail and since I was there it opened F@H on the last program that her side had seen. This basically got everything stuck.. So after I shut her side off then rebooted mine, everything is fine now. It was a simple glitch that I caused without knowing it.

2.0Ghz Pentium 4 'A'

Okay the CPU itself is likely to be a Socket 478 model. The A suffix means it's based on the Northwood core, 400Mhz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache. Only P4s past 3.06Ghz had HT. So there's no way you'd be able to optimise HT technology or the multi GPU clients.

It could however be an older 423 model but this is unlikely.

Chris,

They talk about mirrors and a bunchof other things we can hook up to. They give all this high tech info when most of us just want to know if it's a biscuit or a loaf of bread! lol

Hush Matress!!! lol

OH no Chris.. Your a great help! Had you not told me what a 2A Ghz was I had no way to even guess. LOL Of course I have no idea what it does but I'm happy with it.

OH I wanted to share this with all of you. I think I found a few tricks that seem to help speed up my folding.

1. I made a copy of my cookies folder and I dump it something like 5 times a day.
2. I empty my help and setting folder once a day. I go to internet settings and dump the temp folder there as well as the browser folder.
3. I start my system cleanup and when it shows the list of files I dump all that also. once a day.

IT might seem a bit strange, but I have watched it speed up my folding by at least 20%. (I'm guessing) All I realy know is, is that it helps and gets a WU moving right along. Another thing I think is strange is that when I surf the web, it makes it run faster also.. very odd but it does...

I just wanted to pass this along to everyone and see if it works for them as well!

As far as I know, folding relies on system memory just as much as processing speed. By deleting these settings and stuff, you're freeing up memory - so folding runs faster.

That's my guess on it, anyways. Of course this comes at the downside that you'll have to manually retype all your passwords and stuff for websites...
